Atal Bihari Vajpayee was an Indian politician who served three terms as Prime Minister of India, making him the only prime minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to serve consecutive terms. He was born in 1924 in Madhya Pradesh to a school teacher and grew up to be a poet and journalist. Vajpayee joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1939 and helped establish the Bharatiya Jana Sangh political party in 1951.
