Trends in Contemporary Arts
Catalog Description
ARC x72: Trends in Contemporary Arts (2 Credit Hour)
This course introduces students to allied arts and their
relationship to architecture. The focus is on understanding
trends in contemporary and modern arts. It involves theory and
exercise applications of basic design and visual principles
including architectural form, painting, graphics, sculpture,
music, drama, visual culture.
Lecture: 2 hours/week.
Overall aims of the course
Upon completion of this course students will:
• demonstrate knowledge of art related vocabulary of
the historical and intercultural context of artistic styles;
• gain an appreciation for the aesthetics of the visual arts
including the visual elements and principles of design
in two- and three-dimensional media.
• develop an informed personal reaction to the arts
based upon critical analysis of various art forms
• appreciation of the artistic processes to complete such
art forms.
Intended learning outcomes of course (ILOs):
Knowledge and understanding:
By the end of the course the students will be
able to:
a1) Methods of communication, including IT skills,
graphical representation (drawing and CAD), oral
communication and written communication
a2) Principles of arts, theories and history
a3) Topics related to humanitarian interests and
moral issues.

General and transferable skills:
By the end of the course the student must be
able to:
d1) Share ideas, collaborate and communicate
effectively within a multidisciplinary team and have
the sufficient skills to lead such a team.

• Throughout this course students will need to be in
close contact with their instructor and fellow students.
Students are expected to communicate via email.
Therefore, students should plan on checking email at
least three times a week. Instructors strongly
encourage and welcome open communication. Clear,
consistent, and proactive communication will ensure a
successful experience in this course. It is the student’s
responsibility to notify the instructor immediately if
and when a personal situation occurs that affects
his/her performance in this class. Being proactive with
communication will result in a quick solution to any
problems that may occur.

  • 4. Trends in Contemporary Arts Catalog Description ARC x72: Trends in Contemporary Arts (2 Credit Hour) This course introduces students to allied arts and their relationship to architecture. The focus is on understanding trends in contemporary and modern arts. It involves theory and exercise applications of basic design and visual principles including architectural form, painting, graphics, sculpture, music, drama, visual culture. Lecture: 2 hours/week.
  • 5. Overall aims of the course Upon completion of this course students will: • demonstrate knowledge of art related vocabulary of the historical and intercultural context of artistic styles; • gain an appreciation for the aesthetics of the visual arts including the visual elements and principles of design in two- and three-dimensional media. • develop an informed personal reaction to the arts based upon critical analysis of various art forms • appreciation of the artistic processes to complete such art forms.

Intended learning outcomes of course (ILOs): Knowledge and understanding: By the end of the course the students will be able to: a1) Methods of communication, including IT skills, graphical representation (drawing and CAD), oral communication and written communication a2) Principles of arts, theories and history a3) Topics related to humanitarian interests and moral issues.

  • 12. Communications • Throughout this course students will need to be in close contact with their instructor and fellow students. Students are expected to communicate via email.
