Assignment: Criminal Theories—Serial and Mass Murder Many theories try to explain why some people become serial or mass murderers. However, these theories vary tremendously in terms of the proposed factors that lead to the development of serial and mass murderers. Some theories, for example, emphasize the role of social factors, such as the family. Other theories highlight the importance of psychological factors, such as personality traits, and still other theories focus on the role of biological factors, such as neurological functioning. In isolation, none of these theories provides a definitive explanation for why some people develop into serial or mass murderers. Integrating knowledge from each theory provides for a well-rounded explanation of serial and mass murderers. Theoretical perspectives not only provide some insight into the causes for the development of serial and mass murderers but also assist criminal profilers in creating a psychological profile of a serial or mass murderer. For instance, suppose a criminal profiler realizes that a serial murderer's crime scene reveals evidence consistent with the attachment theory. Based on this theory, the criminal profiler would likely point out that the serial murderer had a dysfunctional childhood that was marked with emotional abuse, physical abuse, or both by the parents. Theories of serial and mass murderers therefore allow criminal profilers to predict the characteristics not revealed at the crime scene. To prepare for this assignment: Review Chapter 4 of your course text, Profiling Violent Crimes: An Investigative Tool. Reflect on the theories of serial and mass murderers and consider how they are similar. In addition, consider how the theories are different from each other, such as whether they focus on factors identifiable at birth, related to personality development, or found in the environment. Review the book excerpt, "The Making of a Serial Killer." Consider the various factors identified as potential causes of serial and mass murderers. Review the article "Serial Murder and the Case of Aileen Wuornos: Attachment Theory, Psychopathy, and Predatory Aggression." Focus on how attachment theory is different from the other theories, such as psychoanalytic theory and constitutional theories, discussed in Chapter 4 of Profiling Violent Crimes: An Investigative Tool. In addition, consider how theories such as attachment theory may be better suited than other theories to explain female serial murderers. Read Psychology Today’s “Is It Possible to Predict Violent Behavior” Select three criminal theories to compare (one psychological, one constitutional/biological, and one social/ecological). Consider the similarities and differences between and among these theories in terms of how they account for violent behaviors of serial and mass murderers and how they might be used in profiling and criminal investigation. Introduction
Common to the theoretical perspectives explored in the other chapters of this text is that some central construct or process is highlighted for its causal role for explaining
crime. For example, from the trait perspective, the temperamental and personality traits
of an individual increase the likelihood of antisocial or prosocial behaviors depending
on whether those traits are risk or protective factors. In the behaviorist perspective, the
processes of learning and reinforcement produce behavioral outcomes. Many psycho-
logical theories zero in on specific constructs within the individual’s neuropsychological
functioning, personality, cognitive skills, interaction patterns, neural substrates within the
brain, and even genes, and then articulate how variance in these factors is associated with
conduct problems. At the heart of this approach is the notion that deficits, problems, inef-
ficiencies, or dysfunctions are associated with crime. Conversely, the lack of these same
deficits explains successful, adaptive, prosocial, or conventional behavior. In this way,
psychological theories of crime point to some pathology as the causal force.
The humanist and interactionist perspectives differ from this approach in two important
ways. First, no pathology-inducing construct is pointed to as the important causal force.
Indeed, the idea of overt pathology and the negative connotation it presents is avoided
in the theoretical and conceptual models presented in this chapter. Second, behavior is
not viewed in mechanical theoretical terms, where the presence of a construct manifests
in antisocial behavior while the absence of the construct does not. Humanist and interac-
tionist theories point to the subjective processes that guide human behavior. All theories
present a probabilistic rather than deterministic explanation of crime, but humanist and
interactionist theories in particular focus on situational dynamics and how an individual
feels about himself or herself at a given moment when attempting to explain how and
why crime occurs.
Humanist theory is concerned with the spirituality and emotional health of individuals,
and how conflicts and threats to that inner health contribute to maladaptive behavior.

From the relatively simplistic theories pertaining to physical appearance to the modern day psychopathy and biosocial conceptualizations, criminological theory has matured considerably over time. After completing reading Chapters 2, 8, and 9 of the Bartol & Bartol text, you will summarize a well–known criminal case including a description of the offense(s), the investigation of the crime, and the outcome. It is important in any investigation or analysis of criminal behavior to evaluate both endogenous and exogenous theories of criminal behavior and analyze how our biases and assumptions influence our assessment of individuals and the role of psychological profiling in law enforcement. It is also important to determine culturally–based behavior patterns that may be specific to certain segments of the population. Preliminary sources of this type of information may come from reliable media sources in their coverage of scholarly works as well as government publications of research findings. These may direct you to more focused resources for scholarly references.

Personality in Social Psychology
Social psychology and personality psychology have the same job: to seek to understand the meaningful, consequential, and for the most part social behaviors of daily life. Cognitive psychology examines component processes such as memory, perception, and cognition. Biological psychology seeks to understand the physical underpinnings of behavior in the anatomy, physiology, functional organization, genetic basis and evolutionary history of the nervous system. Developmental psychology explores the roots of behavior in genetics and early childhood experience, and changes across the life course. All of these fields could be viewed as foundational for the common concern of social and personality psychology, which is to understand what people do every day. In this light, it is unsurprising that courses in social and personality psychology are among the most popular offerings on most college campuses; their subject matter is not only important, it is personally relevant and intrinsically interesting.
Social and personality psychology began to come into their own about the same time – the 1920’s and 1930’s – through the work of many of the same people, such as the Allport brothers, Floyd and Gordon (F. This is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area.
In most cases, active shooters use firearms and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims.

Abstract
Purpose –Although leader humility is generally considered a positive leadership behavior, this study aims to
examine when the positive influences of leader humility are likely weakened.
Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected from a two-wave survey. Ordinary least squares
regression analyses were conducted to test the hypotheses.
Findings – Although leader humility is positively related to perceived leader support, this relationship is
weakened when the environment is uncertain, resulting in comparatively lower follower performance.
Practical implications – Leaders should be aware that environmental constraints may weaken the desired
outcomes of humility and therefore adapt leadership to situational needs.
Originality/value – Contrasting to predominant research on leader humility, this study examines a critical
boundary condition bywhich its positive influences are compromised. In light of the disruption caused by the
ongoing COVID-19, this study suggests that what usually are considered positive characteristics of leader
humility are likely perceived as little leader support when the environment is uncertain. Findings of this
study echo contingency leadership theories, which suggest that effective leadership should be context-
dependent.

In the wake of several corporate scandals, managers and scholars have begun to reflect upon
the dark side of leaders’ grandiose characteristics, such as narcissism, hubris, and sense of
entitlement (Boje et al., 2004; Chang and Diddams, 2009; Li and Tang, 2010; Rosenthal and
Pittinsky, 2006). By contrast, virtues such as humility are important managerial
characteristics (Owens et al., 2013). In light of the appeal for “more humility and less
hubris” (Weick, 2001, p. 93), leader humility has received increased attention across various
organizational settings in recent years (e.g. Ou et al., 2018; Swain and Korenman, 2018; Wang
et al., 2018; Wolfteich et al., 2021).
Leader humility is generally viewed as a positive virtue that leads to desirable outcomes for
followers (Wang et al., 2018), teams (Owens and Hekman, 2016), and organizations (Ou et al.,
2018). However, since organizations are embedded in a dynamic, uncertain, and unpredictable
environment, there is no omnipotent leadership: Leadership is not universal and contextual
influences bound its effectiveness. Similarly, leader humility may have its limits. For instance,

While bitcoin supply is extremely transparent, bitcoin demand is rather
opaque. That said, there are a few quantifiable items that we do know
about bitcoin demand. First, we have a pretty good idea of the number
of bitcoin transactions performed each day. Secondly, and more
importantly, it appears that fluctuations in bitcoin transaction costs
play a major role in determining price corrections. For example, the
number of transactions stopped growing in 2012, about one year
before bitcoin’s 2013 peak and bear market. It began to rise again in
2014 before bitcoin prices began to recover in earnest but have been
stagnating since the end of 2016, perhaps foreshadowing the recent
correction.
Bitcoin’s demand and supply are both considered perfectly inelastic.
The reason is very simple but before that, it is very important to
understand how bitcoin price moves and how bitcoin mining
works.
First thing first, bitcoin has its ultimate quantity of supply which is
known by every buyer/trader/investor, which is only 21 million of
bitcoin. Meanwhile, there are around 18 million bitcoins in
circulation. How then does the quantity of circulation go up? It
depends on the bitcoin miners, as bitcoin miners contribute their
computers’ GPU and electricity to verify the transaction among the
decentralized network, in return, they will be rewarded with bitcoin
from the quantity that is not in circulation (hence the quantity of
the circulating bitcoin goes up). In the long term, the rewards
decrease, while each block is formulated the less the miners can earn.

Demand Shifts
The supply inelasticity explains in large part why bitcoin is so volatile. Items with inelastic supply show a greater
response to demand shifts than items with elastic supply. The same is true of demand: the more inelastic the demand, the
greater the price changes in response to small fluctuations in either supply or demand. Bitcoin’s limited and highly
inelastic supply is also a major factor driving its price appreciation, a rise so spectacular that it can only be appreciated
when seen on a log scale. In bitcoin’s first four years, supply grew by roughly 2.5 million coins per year. Even then prices
were rising as the user community grew. Since then supply has continued to grow but the pace has slowed substantially
while demand has occasionally dipped, even on a year-on-year basis. Bitcoin’s limited supply and soaring price make it
difficult to be used as a medium of exchange outside of the cryptocurrency space.

Abstract
To the surprise of many in the West, the fall of the USSR in 1991 did not lead to the adoption of liberal democratic govern-
ment around the world and the much anticipated “end of history.” In fact, authoritarianism has made a comeback, and liberal
democracy has been on the retreat for at least the last 15 years culminating in the unthinkable: the invasion of a democratic
European country by an authoritarian regime. But why does authoritarianism continue to spread, not only as an alternative to
liberal democracy, but also within many liberal democracies where authoritarian leaders continue to gain strength and pop-
ularity? In this curated piece, contributors discuss some of the potential contributions of management scholarship to under-
standing authoritarianism, as well as highlight a number of directions for management research in this area.

Over the past decade, there have been increased calls for man-
agement scholars to do more research that is societally relevant
and important—to, for example, address grand challenges (e.g.,
George et al., 2016) and to examine the role of organizations
and institutions in the production and maintenance of economic
inequality and systemic power imbalances (e.g., Amis et al.,
2020). While historically “such topics have been difficult to
publish in our leading journals,” more recently “business
schools are becoming more oriented to making research and
education more relevant to their broader societies, which will
in turn encourage scholars to pursue under researched topics
of critical importance” (Tihanyi et al., 2022, p. 712). We
believe that recent events in Ukraine demand that management
scholars once again look beyond more traditional management
themes and focus their attention on a topic that is highly socie-
tally relevant and globally important: the rise of authoritarianism
and the threat this poses to democratic governments and the
international rule of law.
When Russia invaded Ukraine in February of this year,
the Western world reacted with shock and disbelief, and as
days, weeks, and now months have passed, this shock has
evolved into a mixture of anger and fear as it has become
apparent that there is seemingly little the West can (or at
least will) do to stop Russian aggression and the growing
humanitarian crisis that has followed the invasion. While

Social psychology and personality psychology have the same job: to seek to understand the meaningful, consequential, and for the most part social behaviors of daily life. Cognitive psychology examines component processes such as memory, perception, and cognition. Biological psychology seeks to understand the physical underpinnings of behavior in the anatomy, physiology, functional organization, genetic basis and evolutionary history of the nervous system. Developmental psychology explores the roots of behavior in genetics and early childhood experience, and changes across the life course. All of these fields could be viewed as foundational for the common concern of social and personality psychology, which is to understand what people do every day. In this light, it is unsurprising that courses in social and personality psychology are among the most popular offerings on most college campuses; their subject matter is not only important, it is personally relevant and intrinsically interesting.
Social and personality psychology began to come into their own about the same time – the 1920’s and 1930’s – through the work of many of the same people, such as the Allport brothers, Floyd and Gordon (F. Allport, 1924; G. Allport, 1931, 1937; F. Allport & G. Allport, 1921). What is surprising, in retrospect, is how the two fields diverged over the subsequent decades. Social psychology came to specialize in the study of what people have in common; in particular how aspects of situations can change what people, on average, will do. Personality psychology came to specialize in the study of how people differ from each other psychologically, and on ways to characterize and measure these differences. This division of labor makes a certain amount of sense, but problems arose as the fields gradually became so specialized that many practitioners of each field became unaware of the basic principles, findings and methods of the other, and grew worse when social psychologists began to suspect that personality psychology’s emphasis on individual differences was misguided. In his memoirs, the eminent social psychologist Roger Brown described one memorably awkward encounter between the two traditions:

This is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area.
In most cases, active shooters use firearms and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims.
These shooting are almost always planned.
One thing that really stands out is that school shootings almost take place by males.

Abstract
Purpose –Although leader humility is generally considered a positive leadership behavior, this study aims to
examine when the positive influences of leader humility are likely weakened.
Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected from a two-wave survey. Ordinary least squares
regression analyses were conducted to test the hypotheses.
Findings – Although leader humility is positively related to perceived leader support, this relationship is
weakened when the environment is uncertain, resulting in comparatively lower follower performance.
Practical implications – Leaders should be aware that environmental constraints may weaken the desired
outcomes of humility and therefore adapt leadership to situational needs.
Originality/value – Contrasting to predominant research on leader humility, this study examines a critical
boundary condition bywhich its positive influences are compromised. In light of the disruption caused by the
ongoing COVID-19, this study suggests that what usually are considered positive characteristics of leader
humility are likely perceived as little leader support when the environment is uncertain. Findings of this
study echo contingency leadership theories, which suggest that effective leadership should be context-
dependent.

In the wake of several corporate scandals, managers and scholars have begun to reflect upon
the dark side of leaders’ grandiose characteristics, such as narcissism, hubris, and sense of
entitlement (Boje et al., 2004; Chang and Diddams, 2009; Li and Tang, 2010; Rosenthal and
Pittinsky, 2006). By contrast, virtues such as humility are important managerial
characteristics (Owens et al., 2013). In light of the appeal for “more humility and less
hubris” (Weick, 2001, p. 93), leader humility has received increased attention across various
organizational settings in recent years (e.g. Ou et al., 2018; Swain and Korenman, 2018; Wang
et al., 2018; Wolfteich et al., 2021).
Leader humility is generally viewed as a positive virtue that leads to desirable outcomes for
followers (Wang et al., 2018), teams (Owens and Hekman, 2016), and organizations (Ou et al.,
2018). However, since organizations are embedded in a dynamic, uncertain, and unpredictable
environment, there is no omnipotent leadership: Leadership is not universal and contextual
influences bound its effectiveness. Similarly, leader humility may have its limits. For instance,
Pfeffer (2015) argued that humility might be an overrated leader characterist.

While bitcoin supply is extremely transparent, bitcoin demand is rather
opaque. That said, there are a few quantifiable items that we do know
about bitcoin demand. First, we have a pretty good idea of the number
of bitcoin transactions performed each day. Secondly, and more
importantly, it appears that fluctuations in bitcoin transaction costs
play a major role in determining price corrections. For example, the
number of transactions stopped growing in 2012, about one year
before bitcoin’s 2013 peak and bear market. It began to rise again in
2014 before bitcoin prices began to recover in earnest but have been
stagnating since the end of 2016, perhaps foreshadowing the recent
correction.
Bitcoin’s demand and supply are both considered perfectly inelastic.
The reason is very simple but before that, it is very important to
understand how bitcoin price moves and how bitcoin mining
works.
First thing first, bitcoin has its ultimate quantity of supply which is
known by every buyer/trader/investor, which is only 21 million of
bitcoin. Meanwhile, there are around 18 million bitcoins in
circulation. How then does the quantity of circulation go up? It
depends on the bitcoin miners, as bitcoin miners contribute their
computers’ GPU and electricity to verify the transaction among the
decentralized network, in return, they will be rewarded with bitcoin
from the quantity that is not in circulation (hence the quantity of
the circulating bitcoin goes up). In the long term, the rewards
decrease, while each block is formulated the less the miners can earn.

Demand Shifts
The supply inelasticity explains in large part why bitcoin is so volatile. Items with inelastic supply show a greater
response to demand shifts than items with elastic supply. The same is true of demand: the more inelastic the demand, the
greater the price changes in response to small fluctuations in either supply or demand. Bitcoin’s limited and highly
inelastic supply is also a major factor driving its price appreciation, a rise so spectacular that it can only be appreciated
when seen on a log scale. In bitcoin’s first four years, supply grew by roughly 2.5 million coins per year. Even then prices
were rising as the user community grew. Since then supply has continued to grow but the pace has slowed substantially
while demand has occasionally dipped, even on a year-on-year basis. Bitcoin’s limited supply and soaring price make it
difficult to be used as a medium of exchange outside of the cryptocurrency space.

Abstract
To the surprise of many in the West, the fall of the USSR in 1991 did not lead to the adoption of liberal democratic govern-
ment around the world and the much anticipated “end of history.” In fact, authoritarianism has made a comeback, and liberal
democracy has been on the retreat for at least the last 15 years culminating in the unthinkable: the invasion of a democratic
European country by an authoritarian regime. But why does authoritarianism continue to spread, not only as an alternative to
liberal democracy, but also within many liberal democracies where authoritarian leaders continue to gain strength and pop-
ularity? In this curated piece, contributors discuss some of the potential contributions of management scholarship to under-
standing authoritarianism, as well as highlight a number of directions for management research in this area.

Over the past decade, there have been increased calls for man-
agement scholars to do more research that is societally relevant
and important—to, for example, address grand challenges (e.g.,
George et al., 2016) and to examine the role of organizations
and institutions in the production and maintenance of economic
inequality and systemic power imbalances (e.g., Amis et al.,
2020). While historically “such topics have been difficult to
publish in our leading journals,” more recently “business
schools are becoming more oriented to making research and
education more relevant to their broader societies, which will
in turn encourage scholars to pursue under researched topics
of critical importance” (Tihanyi et al., 2022, p. 712). We
believe that recent events in Ukraine demand that management
scholars once again look beyond more traditional management
themes and focus their attention on a topic that is highly socie-
tally relevant and globally important: the rise of authoritarianism
and the threat this poses to democratic governments and the
international rule of law.
When Russia invaded Ukraine in February of this year,
the Western world reacted with shock and disbelief, and as
days, weeks, and now months have passed, this shock has
evolved into a mixture of anger and fear as it has become
apparent that there is seemingly little the West can (or at
least will) do to stop Russian aggression and the growing
humanitarian crisis that has followed the invasion. While

You will prepare an audiovisual (You must use Kaltura) with a transcript (Word file) or PowerPoint presentation (12-20 slides) with speaker notes that address:

Include an introduction. What is your topic and what are you going to address in the presentation.
The system life cycle process and the role of employees in each stage of the process.
Identify the process- use a visual or table (if you get it already made then make sure there is appropriate credit on the slide). In the speaker’s notes explain the process steps and how employees are engaged in each step. Key is what is the employee role in each step. The role will change by each step. Be specific.

The identification and roles of at least five internal stakeholders employed by the practice.
Identify the stakeholders by role and define how that role contributes to the life cycle process- why are they important to the process. A table is good for this. Note: Patients are not employed by the practice.
Identify the major stakeholders and why their role is important to the project
Once you identified the stakeholders there will be some that have more sway in the project than others- they are the major or power stakeholders. Identify which stakeholders are your major stakeholders and in the speaker note/narration, define why. Do not include the government nor insurance companies.

Explain the purpose of a minimum of four key project management tools planned for the project. (See the hints for project tools link.) Word, Excel, Power Point, Teams are not examples of Project management tools.

Do not define what a communication plan is but develop the actual communication plan. You want a specific, detailed plan, not definitions and vague concepts. You need to include in your communication plan:

Much like honeyguide birds and honey badgers, nurses and health professionals from other specialty areas can—and should—collaborate to design effective programs. Nurses bring specialties to the table that make them natural partners to professionals with different specialties. When nurses take the requisite leadership in becoming involved throughout the healthcare system, these partnerships can better design and deliver highly effective programs that meet objectives.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. - 1. Assignment: Criminal Theories—Serial and Mass Murder Many theories try to explain why some people become serial or mass murderers. However, these theories vary tremendously in terms of the proposed factors that lead to the development of serial and mass murderers. Some theories, for example, emphasize the role of social factors, such as the family. Other theories highlight the importance of psychological factors, such as personality traits, and still other theories focus on the role of biological factors, such as neurological functioning. In isolation, none of these theories provides a definitive explanation for why some people develop into serial or mass murderers. Integrating knowledge from each theory provides for a well-rounded explanation of serial and mass murderers. Theoretical perspectives not only provide some insight into the causes for the development of serial and mass murderers but also assist criminal profilers in creating a psychological profile of a serial or mass murderer. For instance, suppose a criminal profiler realizes that a serial murderer's crime scene reveals evidence consistent with the attachment theory. Based on this theory, the criminal profiler would likely point out that the serial murderer had a dysfunctional childhood that was marked with emotional abuse, physical abuse, or both by the parents. Theories of serial and mass murderers therefore allow criminal profilers to predict the characteristics not revealed at the crime scene. To prepare for this assignment: Review Chapter 4 of your course text, Profiling Violent Crimes: An Investigative Tool. Reflect on the theories of serial and mass murderers and consider how they are similar. In addition, consider how the theories are different from each other, such as whether they focus on factors identifiable at birth, related to
- 2. personality development, or found in the environment. Review the book excerpt, "The Making of a Serial Killer." Consider the various factors identified as potential causes of serial and mass murderers. Review the article "Serial Murder and the Case of Aileen Wuornos: Attachment Theory, Psychopathy, and Predatory Aggression." Focus on how attachment theory is different from the other theories, such as psychoanalytic theory and constitutional theories, discussed in Chapter 4 of Profiling Violent Crimes: An Investigative Tool. In addition, consider how theories such as attachment theory may be better suited than other theories to explain female serial murderers. Read Psychology Today’s “Is It Possible to Predict Violent Behavior” Select three criminal theories to compare (one psychological, one constitutional/biological, and one social/ecological). Consider the similarities and differences between and among these theories in terms of how they account for violent behaviors of serial and mass murderers and how they might be used in profiling and criminal investigation. The assignment (2-3 pages): Identify the theories you selected. Compare (similarities and differences) the criminal theories you selected in terms of how they account for violent behaviors of serial and mass murderers and how they might be used in profiling and criminal investigation. Explain at least one insight you gained or a conclusion you drew about using criminal theories in profiling and criminal investigation.
