Abstract
The topic that I choose to discuss as my final paper is Racial Profiling versus Behavioral Profiling. The reason for choosing this topic is because it is one of the most popular topics in Criminal Justice, and it is also something we face daily in our society. Racial Profiling is a discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of.

CJUS 750Developing Research Questions Instructions
This paper requires you to create research questions based upon the literature review and annotated bibliography research.
1. Think about your current understanding (working theory) of a research issue of interest to you in the criminal justice field (here again is where the previous Literature Review and Annotated Bibliography assignments will help you). What important concepts are part of this research interest and how do they relate? Begin a search of the relevant literature.
2. Develop three to five research questions that help to focus your topic. List possible aspects of the conceptual context that would guide a literature review if you were to do one.
3. Create a research statement (if you have not done so already) and create five to ten open-ended interview questions for your own research project. Pilot the questions with a classmate, asking her or him to pretend that she or he is one of your participants. Work together to reshape the questions. Then pilot the questions with someone who has had experiences similar to your research population or ask the questions of a research participant who is willing to collaborate with you on developing your questions. Reshape the questions again after reflecting upon what worked, what did not, and what new questions arose.
4. Be sure to write down the answers to those questions (you will need them for another upcoming assignment).
Assignment Specifics:
· Develop 3–5 research questions
· Develop 5–10 open-ended interview questions
· Citations from any of the required reading/presentations from the assigned module/week
· APA format
Submit this assignment by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of Module/Week 3.

This article forms the basis of the discussion by explaining the correlation between quantitative research and criminology whereby the relationship favor’s the criminology concept and process since it is inquisitive by nature. The main variables that are used to support the hypothesis are the number of dissertations presented with a different style of research applied to them. The qualitative research forms the largest contribution to the research process by collecting a variety of related information across the research topic. The two main modes of measurement being tested are the qualitative and quantitative methods which are usually the two major measurement scales used in research. The notion is supported by this mode of research because different disciplines normally apply different approaches to quantitative inquiry.

Assignment Criminal Theories—Serial and Mass MurderMany theorie.docxjesuslightbody
Assignment: Criminal Theories—Serial and Mass Murder
Many theories try to explain why some people become serial or mass murderers. However, these theories vary tremendously in terms of the proposed factors that lead to the development of serial and mass murderers. Some theories, for example, emphasize the role of social factors, such as the family. Other theories highlight the importance of psychological factors, such as personality traits, and still other theories focus on the role of biological factors, such as neurological functioning. In isolation, none of these theories provides a definitive explanation for why some people develop into serial or mass murderers. Integrating knowledge from each theory provides for a well-rounded explanation of serial and mass murderers.
Theoretical perspectives not only provide some insight into the causes for the development of serial and mass murderers but also assist criminal profilers in creating a psychological profile of a serial or mass murderer. For instance, suppose a criminal profiler realizes that a serial murderer's crime scene reveals evidence consistent with the attachment theory. Based on this theory, the criminal profiler would likely point out that the serial murderer had a dysfunctional childhood that was marked with emotional abuse, physical abuse, or both by the parents. Theories of serial and mass murderers therefore allow criminal profilers to predict the characteristics not revealed at the crime scene.
To prepare for this assignment:
Review Chapter 4 of your course text, Profiling Violent Crimes: An Investigative Tool. Reflect on the theories of serial and mass murderers and consider how they are similar. In addition, consider how the theories are different from each other, such as whether they focus on factors identifiable at birth, related to personality development, or found in the environment.
Review the book excerpt, "The Making of a Serial Killer." Consider the various factors identified as potential causes of serial and mass murderers.
Review the article "Serial Murder and the Case of Aileen Wuornos: Attachment Theory, Psychopathy, and Predatory Aggression." Focus on how attachment theory is different from the other theories, such as psychoanalytic theory and constitutional theories, discussed in Chapter 4 of Profiling Violent Crimes: An Investigative Tool. In addition, consider how theories such as attachment theory may be better suited than other theories to explain female serial murderers.
Read Psychology Today’s “Is It Possible to Predict Violent Behavior”
Select three criminal theories to compare (one psychological, one constitutional/biological, and one social/ecological).
Consider the similarities and differences between and among these theories in terms of how they account for violent behaviors of serial and mass murderers and how they might be used in profiling and criminal investigation.

Most sexual behavior problems must be delineated within the context of the individual's personality, lifestyle, and relationships with others. It is usually simplistic to label any particular behavior automatically as a problem. Several criteria are given that can be used to define sexual problems and that can help put problematic sex into a more realistic and sensible perspective. Determining when a sexual preference behavior becomes a problem is highly subjective and requires a look into different aspects of an individual's life, including his or her lifestyle and cultural and social belief systems. Sexual abuse, coercion, and assault of others represent serious sexual problems (Kelly, 2015).
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and a variety of other medical conditions can affect the sex organs and sexual activity. Whereas STDs once were discussed only briefly in most human sexuality courses, they are emerging as important issues again. Considering that the incidence of several diseases is on the rise, and that more organisms are being recognized as being capable of sexual transmission, such a trend may be timely. One of the most significant findings of the National Health and Social Life Survey (NHSLS) was the direct correlation between the numbers of sexual partners people have had and the likelihood that they will have had a STD (National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, 1992).
Defining sexual dysfunctions is somewhat subjective, and individual differences in the sexual response cycle are often perfectly normal. Rather than simply labeling each dysfunction and explaining it separately, we must examine it based on the broader picture of sexual responsiveness and the total sexual relationship. In recent years, there has been greater emphasis on potential organic conditions that can manifest themselves in sexual difficulties, including the effects of alcohol, other drugs, and certain medication ...

Sexual behaviors are influenced by factors such as age, race, religious beliefs, and educational background. Solitary sex includes thoughts and fantasies, erotic materials and toys, and masturbation. Solitary sex does not seem to be compensation for lack of availability of a sexual partner. The frequency with which people experience private sexual pleasure seems to be positively correlated with how frequently they seek shared sex.

Individuals should be aware of the difficulties of finding appropriate nonjudgmental labels for all types of sexual behaviors. A distinction is made among aspects of sexual performance and the more subjective factors of sexual desire, sensuosity, and sensuality. These concepts are particularly useful as you explore the different dimensions of human sexuality.
Human sexuality has found its way into the culture and laws of every society. The balance of personal sexual freedom with the public need to regulate social behavior is a topic to consider. How far should sexual freedom for adults be carried? To what extent should legal systems regulate sexual behaviors? What limits should be imposed on the availability of sexually explicit materials?
Attempts have been made at distinguishing between pornography and erotica, although the final distinction clearly lies in the eye of the beholder. Sexologists are increasingly using the term "sexually explicit materials" as a general descriptor. Graphic depictions of human nudity and sexual behavior have been a part of every soc ...

Business Problem Memo Research Proposal
Students will write a proposal for a memo in which they request authorization to research a problem at their current, or past workplace- a problem with which they have first-hand experience. This might involve adopting a new organizational structure, policy, procedure, product line/piece of equipment; or pursuing a new mission, market, or line or research.
First, demonstrate that there is a problem (i.e., providing evidence of its existence and its impact on the company) and then summarize how you would study-- and eventually solve-- the problem if authorized to proceed. Be sure you request permission to find a research-based solution at the end of your proposal. Your proposal should not include any solutions. You will read reliable resources and cite them to propose a research-based solution in your final memo. You should not choose a problem that you already know how to solve. Your proposed solution in the final memo will need to be research-based.
Be sure to meet the following requirements:
1. Background and evidence that a problem or need for change exists
2. A research plan and timeline, including an indication of how and when you will present your findings
3. Some indication of what you will need (e.g., release time; support staff; budget; access to sensitive data) to complete research to find the best solution
4. Request permission to work on finding a solution to the outlined problem or need for change
This memo proposal should be no more than 250 words (1 page), double-spaced using APA citations (if necessary), and addressed to someone in a position to act on it.
Please note, this proposal will be turned in to a complete memo in the Final Business Memo that includes research-based solutions to the problem that you address in this proposal. There should be no solutions listed in this proposal. You do not actually have to conduct research and collect data for this assignment. Your research will be literary research where you find similar organizations who discuss how they solved similar issues or literature from academics or experts in the area. You will turn in the draft of the proposal (not graded, but required) for peer review (done in class Wednesday, November 16). You should also bring a hard paper copy to class for the peer review activity.

Comprehensive Learning Assessment 2 - Primary Source Analysis Paper
Primary Source Analysis Paper
For this assignment, you will be taking a closer look at an international relations topic that intrigues you.
1. Choose a topic that interests you (historical or contemporary). Some ideas include the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Munich Pact, the fall of the Berlin Wall, India and Pakistan joining of the Nuclear Club, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Russian invasion of Crimea. If you need your professor to review your choice, send it to them at the beginning of Week 7. They will need time to respond to you, and you will need time to submit this CLA.
2. Then select a primary source on the topic you chose, specifically, a speech from a political leader (Review Understanding Primary and Secondary Sources and Analyzing a Primary Source before you begin searching for a primary source).
Search Tips:
The National Security Archive: http://www2.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/
Internet Modern History Sourcebook: http://www.fordham.edu/Halsall/mod/modsbook.asp.
George Mason’s Center for History and New Media: http://chnm.gmu.edu/teaching-and-learning/.
Note: When sifting through sources, ask yourself how a realist, liberal, or constructivist would interpret this primary source. Then, select a perspective through which to view the primary source. Then, using the CLA guidelines detailed in this syllabus, include the following in a three- to four-page written essay:
Briefly describe your source:
1. Include contextual information about the source.
2. What does the reader need to understand about the context (and history) in which this source was made in order to understand your analysis of the source?
3. Include the information the reader needs to understand the source, but do not include unrelated information.
Make a statement:
1. This should be at the end of your introductory paragraph or directly following the introduction.
2. Make an argument from a particular perspective (realist, liberalist, constructivist)
Example:
· Although realists would disagree with A about B, this primary source perfectly illustrates three of realism’s primary assumptions X, Y, and Z.
· Despite President X’s call for a more globalized and peaceful world order in source B, her overall foreign policy view is decidedly constructivist as seen in source A.
· Throughout this film, the main character’s primary motivations stem from a constructivist understanding of the world as seen in XYZ.
Analyze the primary source:
1. Elaborate on your statement above. This is the main part of the paper and the length of this section should reflect this. Use references as needed. As you analyze the source, ensure that you answer the following: How would theorist X view this source? How does the language in this source reflect/contradict this theory? If you are comparing primary sources, what theoretical views are expressed in these sources? The same? Different? What accounts for this differ ...

Religious Violence and Radical Islam
Today, we live in a world where violence plagues our society. I believe it is crucial to discuss the concept of violence. Why does it occur? Why does it seem to be consuming not only those living in America, but the entire World population? Our daily news headlines are stormed with stories about new acts of violence every day. Many times these headlines are developed due to an act of violence that was committed by a religious group. This paper will focus on the impulse of violence within religion. The thesis for this paper is that in any religion in which radical groups exist there is potential for violence to occur. According to the Pew Research Center, Islam is the World’s second largest religion and the fastest growing (The Future of World Religion, 2015). In light of this fact, this research paper will focus on the radical groups that exist within the Islamic religion. The major emphasis of this paper will be to determine if the violence that occurs is a reflection of ideological foundations in the religion or is it more greatly influenced by culture and other precipitating factors.
First, I will examine some of the violent acts carried out by religious groups throughout history. I will look at the factors that influenced such acts to be carried out by these groups of people using information from “Religion, Terror and Violence: Religious Studies Perspectives”, by Rennie and Tite (2008). History reveals many acts of violence occurring among religious group. In particular were the battles that occurred during Holy wars. For example, the Crusades were a series of battles that occurred between 1096-1291 for control of the Holy land. I will use examples and information from Selengut’s “Sacred Fury: understanding religious violence”, to determine whether violent acts, such as the Holy wars, were only influence by opposing religious beliefs or were they a product of other factors such as political and cultural influence? I will also implement material from Kressel’s “Bad faith: the danger of religious extremist”, which explains extremist among many religions, in further support of my thesis statement.
Second, I will narrow my focus on violence to that which is occurring in the Islamic religion. I would like to express again that I am not focusing on Islam because I believe it is a violent religion. I am focusing on this religion in particular because of its fast growing population and attention it has recently been receiving in our society. As stated in my thesis, I am attempting to prove that violence can exist in any religion in which there are radical groups of people. I will use information from Esposito’s book, “What everyone needs to know about Islam”, to explain a few of the foundational ideologies that exist in Islam. Next, I will focus on the radical groups that exist among the Islamic religion. ...

Gergen, K. J. (2014). Pursuing excellence in qualitative inquiry. Qualitative Psychology, 1(1), 49-60. doi:10.1037/qup0000002.
The author of this article looks into the various orientations that influence the qualitative inquiries’ success rate by reviewing the history of the criteria that was mainly used in measuring the success rate of a certain qualitative inquiry approach. He then discusses how the traditional criteria have been widely used to evaluate the modern qualitative approaches which he looks at from different types of qualitative approach methods. From the analysis of the various contemporary orientations which lead to the development of various types of inquiries, he is able to consider five proposed mode of qualitative inquiries which include ethnography, narrative, phenomenological, grounded theory and also case study. This provision sets the basis for the discussion of the various types of inquiries which is then compared to the analysis of their effective use and impact within the criminal justice systems for example in the article below from the National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) which looks into the most common types of approaches to qualitative inquiries.

EXPLAINING WHITE COLLAR CRIME
THEORIES AND ACCOUNTS
Trusted Criminals
Designed by: Jordan Land, M.S.
IntroductionA Theory is a formal version of an explanation, although it is not necessarily a comprehensive explanation
It attempts to explain a class of events, whereas an explanation might simply attempt to make sense of a specific event
In the conventional view, a good theory can be tested and fits the evidence provided by research
Underlying Assumptions and Points of DepartureEvery attempt at explanation invokes certain metaphysical, ontological, and epistemological assumptions about the ultimate nature of reality and being, and how we come to know and understand our world
It is important to understand that almost anything we might say about white collar crime is rooted in our assumptions, whether explicit or implicit, concerning such questions
What Do We Want To Explain? The conventional answer is that we must explain criminality, or what makes individuals or organizations commit white collar crimesA second a.

Review Paper – Draft of Literature Findings

Abstract
This paper discusses the similarities, differences, and content of 10 articles and other resources the report and discuss the findings of research that has been done on the Psychology of Evil. The idea of a person being completely “evil” is still a new idea in psychology and all of the main research on this has been done within the past 70 years, so as of right now there is now hard proof that someone can really truly be “evil.” Most of the research done has been done based on the idea of an authority figure being the main reason why someone may do an evil task, not one on single person doing an evil thing on their own recognizance. This paper focuses on experiments performed by Milgram and Zimbardo and their findings, but also includes discussions from other sources.
The Psychology of Evil
There have been many discussions based on the research done to prove that humans can be and are instinctively evil beings. However, most of the research that has been presented to us has been performed with some type of authority that wills the participants to perform the “evil” acts. Becker states in his article “little effort has been made in psychology and psychiatry to study pathologies that afflict, not the aberrant neurotic or psychotic individual or social group, but the greater population of the psychologically normal” (2008). I would have to say that based on my schooling and the personal research that I have done that I would agree with this statement. All too often, any research performed to test the psychology behind good and evil only includes what we would call a “normal” individual; someone who has no type of psychotic diagnosis. Now if these experiments were tested on individual who was diagnosed with Antisocial or Borderline Personality Disorder, would the outcomes have been different? Becker states in this article that he believes that to be so. In this article he mainly focuses on Nazi leaders during the holocaust.
Chirico writes an article that is 22 chapters long that is divided in 5 sections to study this concept: “Basic issues and Controversies,” “Motivation and Cognitive Processes,” “Developmental, Personality and Clinical Aspects,” “Good and Evil,” and “Synthesis” (2011). Chirico starts his analysis with the main question that so many of us ask; “Why is there evil?” Chirico studies focus mainly on whether or not evil is a normal human condition or simply a side effect of mental illness. He also looks into the schemas of cognitions and morality.
Kadar’s article discusses a very interesting theory that the central goal of ecological psychology is for humans to create coping mechanisms to deal with everyday tasks, and sometime that these coping mechanisms can include evil behaviors. He states that sometimes an evil act ...

PROMPTS: THE SOCIAL SCIENCES
American prisons have a disparate number of minority inmates in their populations. Is this trend due to a higher rate of minority crimes or the manner in which the judicial system operates? Research the possible answers, and defend a single cause of this disparity.
Many people have questioned the fairness of the United States’ criminal justice system. This is because of the high number of black inmates in the United States’ prisons despite the fact that they are the minority group. This scenario has led to many scholars and observers questioning the handling of cases regarding blacks. Some argue that the whites should be the majority in these prisons since they are also the majority group. The following annotated bibliographies are going to look into this issue in order to find out what is the cause of this situation.
Boothe, D. (2007). Why are so many black men in prison? United States: Full Surface.
According to Boothe, war on drugs is believed to be the major factors in leading to the increased number of blacks in the United States’ prisons. This is because of the high chances of a person convicted for handling drugs ending up in prison, especially blacks. This is because of the notion that blacks were the perpetrators of these activities in the United States.
This is an important source as it outlines the inequality in the way drug cases involving blacks and whites are handled. For instance, many whites involved in drug cases for the first time are usually put on probation. This is unlike the blacks who are given sentences directly as they are viewed to be harmful to the society.
Clear, T. R. (2012). American corrections in brief. Belmont, CA: Wadsworth Cengage Learning.
According to Clear, the United States’ prisons are operated at the federal and state level. These levels depend on the nature of crimes that the convicts did. Those that did serious crimes such as murder are usually held in maximum-security prisons while those that committed less serious crimes are held in minimum-security prisons. However, in both prisons, majority of the prisoners are blacks.
The high number of black inmates in these prisons is an indicator that there is something wrong with the United States’ criminal justice systems. This makes this book an important source of information on my topic. I therefore plan to use to derive important information on the disparities being experienced in American courts.
Flowers, R. B. (1990). Minorities and criminality. New York: Praeger.
In this book, Flowers talks about representation of various groups living in the United States in juvenile prisons. According to Flowers, majority of juvenile inmates come from poor backgrounds, which are mainly blacks. The author says that the whites are the least represented in these prisons despite the fact that they are the majority in terms of the general population.
This book is very important in doing my ...

As a former emergency department Registered Nurse for over seven.docxrossskuddershamus
As a former emergency department Registered Nurse for over seven years, I recall the most significant complaints were our long wait times. For some patients, the wait time could be substantial. Since emergency departments aren't on a first-come, first-serve basis, wait times were often unpredictable and lengthy. Patients are triaged based on their level of acuity. Long Emergency Department (ED) Length of stay (EDLOS) is associated with poor patient outcomes, which has led to the implementation of time targets designed to keep EDLOS below a specific limit. (Andersson et al., 2020, p. 2)
The method conducted for the concept analysis on EDLOS was the Walker and Avant approach. They were able to research a way of measuring the concept empirically by identifying all concepts used. (Andersson et al., 2020) Nurses can use the Walker and Avant approach when there are limited concepts available to a nurse to explain a problem area. The process of concept analysis for nurses first transpired in 1986. (McEwen & Wills, 2019) Walker and Avant specifically designed an approach to concept analysis to help graduate nurses explain methods to examine phenomena that interests them. (McEwen & Wills, 2019) The basic concept analysis approach by Walker and Avant is as follows; 1. Select a concept 2. Determine the aims or purposes of the analysis. 3. Identify all the concept possible uses possible. 4. Determine the defining attributes. 5. Identify the model case. 6. Identify any borderline, related contrary, invent, and illegitimate cases. 7. Identify the antecedents and consequences. 8. Define the empirical referents. (McEwen & Wills, 2019, Tables 3-2)
Authors Aim and Purpose
As a former Emergency Department Nurse, I find it fascinating how the author chose to do the concept analysis on this topic. According to the author, when patients are forced to stay for extended lengths of time in the emergency department, this leads to poor patient outcomes, overcrowding, and an overall inefficient organization. (Andersson et al., 2020) I recall when a febrile child was left in the Emergency Department for a long time. The child became so agitated their respiratory status worsened. The authors aim to clarify the meaning of long EDLOS and identify the root causes of an emergency department length of stay of more than six hours. (Andersson et al., 2020)
Defining Attributes on the Concept Examined
In the emergency department, length of stay (LOS) is a widely used measurement. Emergency department length of stay (EDLOS) is defined as the time interval between a patient's arrival to the ED to the time the patient physically leaves the ED. The defining attributes discovered that waiting in a crowded emergency department was just that, waiting. Waiting was the most acknowledged attribute associated with EDLOS. (Andersson et al., 2020) If the patients didn't have to wait, they wouldn't be a problem/complaint and had no time targets.

Next, I will focus on the radical groups that exist among the Islamic religion. ...

Gergen, K. J.

Decision-Driven
Marketing
Good decision processes break down silos
and improve performance. by Aditya Joshi
and Eduardo Giménez
Marketers have always had to build brands, create demand, promote sales, and help their companies earn custom-ers’ loyalty. But today’s turbulent environment means they must play critical new roles: They must be strate-gists, allocating scarce resources to support company priorities and increasing return on investment. They must be technologists, tracking and capitalizing on the most useful of the sophisticated technologies that are flooding their field. And they must be scientists, because the future of their business may not look much like the

requires a new mind-set for all the parties concerned
and a shared commitment to rethinking how deci-
sions are made and work is done. To be sure, some
companies will find that they need to consider orga-
nizational changes as well. But the decision perspec-
tive helps them establish a firmer foundation for any
restructuring and drives progress in the interim.
Typically, three categories of marketing-related
decisions cross organizational seams:
Strategy and planning decisions involve aligning
marketing goals with business and customer strat-
egies and aligning the priorities of marketing and
sales. These decisions typically address questions
such as:
• On which customer segments and product lines
should we focus marketing support?
• What is the optimal level of spending, and what
is the right allocation among vehicles and channels?
• What is the testing and learning plan?
Execution decisions, the marketer’s traditional
purview, are more challenging than they used to
be. A proliferation of marketing vehicles and digital
technologies has vastly increased the complexity of
creating and delivering messages and offers in an en-
vironment where ever-faster execution and relent-
less budget pressure are the norm. These decisions
include issues such as:
• Which product features should we highlight in
our marketing efforts?
• What incentives should we give customers to
get them to try or buy our offerings?
• What is the right mix of traditional and digital
marketing vehicles?
Operations and infrastructure decisions cover
all the new capabilities that are increasingly impor-
tant to marketing’s success. They address questions
such as:
• How will new marketing technologies and tools
be evaluated, boug.

arugumentative essay on article given below
In “Parents Keep Child’s Gender Secret”, Jayme Poisson writes an article about the true story of a Canadian couple raising their child without ever revealing the child’s gender (keeping it secret from anyone not in their immediate family). This has incited many strong reactions from readers and locals alike. Poisson’s piece allows us to form our own opinions about this subject and forces us to examine why we consider gender so important to the development of a child.
Kenji Yoshino writes about the term covering. ‘Covering’, as Yoshino uses it, means to ‘tone down a disfavored identity to fit into the mainstream’ (552), and Yoshino argues that though Americans value the idea of the melting pot as a model for our culture, that ideal can have unintended negative consequences. Despite our avowed appreciation for multiculturalism, the unstated public expectation is still for people of all genders, sexual orientations and races to conform to rigid expectations.
Prompt:
Yoshino discusses the pressures we face to “cover”. Apply this concept and cross-reference Poisson’s piece and the decision Storm’s parents have made to keep their child’s gender a secret. In what ways is it a strategy to resist covering? Is it an effective one? Is some measure of covering necessary in our society? Make an argument about how cultural expectations and individual (or parental) choices should affect or does affect gender identity.
Essay Guidelines:
Quote the assigned readings to support your answer. Do not do additional research. Be sure to demonstrate your comprehension of the pieces by quoting and discussing relevant passages to support your thesis. Essays that draw support solely upon personal experience will not receive a passing grade. Additionally, make sure that you are not merely summarizing the readings

Circling Round Vitruvius, Linear Perspective, and the
Design of Roman Wall Painting

Abstract: Many scholars believe that linear perspective existed in classical antiquity, but a fresh
examination of two key texts in Vitruvius shows that 1.2.2 is about modularity and symmetria,
while 7.Pr.11 describes shading (skiagraphia). Moreover, these new interpretations are firmly based on
the classical understanding of optics and the history of painting (e.g., Pliny the Elder). A third text
(Philostratus, Imagines 1.4.2) suggests that the design of Roman wall painting depends on concentric
circles. Philostratus’ system is then used to successfully make facsimiles of five walls, representing
Styles II, III, and IV of Roman wall painting. Hence, linear perspective and its relatives, such as
Panofsky’s vanishing vertical axis, should not be imposed retrospectively where they never existed.
Keywords: linear perspective; skenographia; skiagraphia; Greek and Roman painting; Roman fresco;
Vitruvius; Philostratus
Two systems for designing Pompeian wall paintings have dominated modern scholarship: a
one- or center-point perspective and a vanishing vertical axis.1 Neither method works for all the
variations seen on the walls of Styles II–IV. The vanishing vertical axis is considered a precursor of
linear perspective, whereas center-point construction is a form of linear perspective. Many scholars
believe that linear perspective was invented by the Greeks, only to be forgotten during the Middle
Ages and “reinvented” in the Renaissance.2 In contrast, I propose that linear perspective was not
known in any form in antiquity but, rather, was an invention of the Renaissance, which also created its
putative ancient pedigree.
1. Background
1.1. Definitions
First, it is important to define four key terms.
“Perspective” applies loosely to a wide range of systems that convert a three-dimensional scene
to two dimensions. Most scholars, however, mean “linear perspective” when they use the unqualified
term “perspective”. No standard definition exists for linear perspective, but only linear perspective
obeys the rules of projective geometry. Formal definitions refer to “station points” (the point or
place for the “eye” of the “viewer” and/or “artist”), vanishing points, horizon lines, and picture
planes, among other aspects. Horizontal lines converge to the “center point” or, in the case of
1 This topic is remarkably complex with a massive bibliography. Small (2013) provides a reasonable summary of the
scholarship to its date of publication. Since then, I have realized that the standard interpretations of key texts and objects
needs to be totally rethought. This artic.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Running head: RACIAL PROFILING VERSUS BEHAVIORAL
6. PROFILING 1
Abstract
The topic that I choose to discuss as my final paper is Racial
Profiling versus Behavioral Profiling. The reason for choosing
this topic is because it is one of the most popular topics in
Criminal Justice, and it is also something we face daily in our
society. Racial Profiling is a discriminatory practice by law
enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of
crime based on the individual’s race, ethnicity, religion and
national origin. Behavioral Profiling is the process of
observing, anticipating, and interpreting a specific behavior.
The main issues at hand with these two are they’re happening
around us each and every day in some form or fashion. Now
that we now the difference between the two, let’s look at a brief
description of the two. Racial profiling deals with a law
enforcement official stopping and or searching a vehicle as well
as the driver based on the individuals race. Rather than looking
at the violation of the law, the official looks at the suspicion of
the individual. Behavioral profiling deals heavily from
cognitive psychology and often, on the personal experiences
with a previous crime and the subjective interpretation of the
profiler. This topic is related to the learning outcomes outlined
in this syllabus because this is one of the strongest topics in the
criminal justice field. It is also related to criminal justice
because it focuses on the outlook of what goes on in society
daily. This has been an issue throughout history and it continues
to happen each and every day.

9. This is a required textbook from Theories of Criminology, an
undergraduate course. During the class I found this textbook to
be very informational with regards to the subject matter
discussed. Some topics in the textbook include the Schools of
Thought throughout History, Explanations of Crime and
Criminal Behavior and Strain and Cultural Deviance Theories. I
thought it could aid my understanding of the topic of victim
precipitated murder. I was hoping for a more elaborate
discussion on the topic, but found that there was a mere mention
of victim precipitated murder. While I believe that this source
has a great amount of potential as a reference for other topic, it
was not a very extensive source for the topic of victim
precipitated murder.

behavior and perceived
victimization in groups: Evidence for a curvilinear relationship.
Journal of Management, 28(1), 69-87.
From reading the abstract of this source I was hoping to find
information about the type of personality that could possibly
provoke a victim precipitated homicide. The context,
workgroups, doesn’t entirely fit into the topic, but the
information provide can be related back to victim precipitated
homicide. The authors did a great job of supporting their
theories with reliable research and sources. While I only
utilized a small portion of the source, the information helped to
confirm and reinforce another source I used. I believe that this
article would be of sound use to someone writing a paper
discussing the psychology of how people interact with one
another in a group setting.
Baker, H., (2008). Constructing women who experience male
violence: Criminal legal discourse and individual experiences.
10. Liverpool Law Review, 29, 123-142.
I also chose to include this article in the concept paper because
it contained collaborative information verifying another chosen
source. The article contains information about the domestic
context of victim precipitated murder, which is a highly
researched subject. The article mainly discusses sexual assault
as opposed to actual homicide, but also offers a psychological
profile of how women construct themselves in accordance with
society and personal experiences. The article as a whole is very
reliable in regards to a women’s perspective on the subject of
male violence. Therefore, I do have to make the conclusion that
I believe the article to biased in the respect that it is difficult to
take an unbiased position on a subject that is itself gender bias.

Foote, W. E. (1999).Victim precipitated homicide. In H. V. Hall
(Ed.), Lethal Violence: A Sourcebook on Fatal Domestic,
Acquaintance and Stranger Violence(pp. 175-202). Boca Raton,
Fl: CRC Press.
This source is a sourcebook discussing research associated with
domestic, aquanitance and stranger violence. Of all of the
resources utilized in the development of this paper, I believe
that this source is the most informative and reliable. The author
did a great job of introducing the topic from its conception and
following though in a concise and understandable format. Foote
also offered his own evaluation and theories on the subject of
victim precipitated murder, as opposed to simply citing past
research and allowing the reader to conclude what they wish.
The author takes hold of the subject and evaluates the issues at
face value. I would highly recommend anyone researching any
of the aforementioned topics utilize this resource to its fullest.
11. Gellert, G. A., (1997). Confronting violence. Oxford, UK:
Westview Press.
I chose not to include any of the information presented in this
source. Victim precipitation is not specifically mentioned, even
though the topics presented in the text could be relevant to the
discussion. The topics discussed physical and emotional abuse
of children, spouse abuse and domestic and intimate violence
against women and murder and homicide—ever more random.
The subtopics aren’t organized in a fashion to my liking. The
book is intended for the general public and professionals and
would be a good quick reference to the topics included.
Hannon, L., (2004). Race, victim precipitated homicide and the
subculture of violence thesis. The Social Science Journal, 41,
115-121.
This is an excellent source to be used when composing a paper
related specifically to victim precipitated homicide and how it
relates to African Americans. The article contains an analysis of
actual research conducted with past studies used as support.
While the researcher’s findings were found not to support his
original hypothesis, this is still an important step in the research
process as a whole. His research of past studies also
collaborates Foote’s research which is why I found it important
to include in my concept paper. The author did an excellent job
of explaining his processes and reiterating his findings.
Torry, W. I. (2001). Social change, crime and culture: The
defense of provocation. Crime, Law and Social Change, 36,
309-325.
This article basically discusses the relationship between victim
12. precipitated murder and it justification in the eyes of the legal
system. The author discusses the control theory and the outrage
theory and explains their implementation with regards to the
judiciary system. This article provided a different perspective
on the topic of victim precipitated murder than the other
literature I had looked at. The main points focused on anger as
the cause of the victim precipitated homicide as opposed to
other circumstances. This article is a great reference for anyone
writing a paper related to how perspectives have changed in
regards to judicial rulings relevant provocation.
Van Wormer, K., (2007) Why so many murder-suicides?. USA
Today, 135(2742), 62-65.
This is a short article that appeared in USA Today. This source
basically reinforced a statement relating to suicide by cop, an
issue also presented by Foote. The article discusses murder-
suicides, victim precipitated murder and suicide bombers. This
source has some relevant citation to statistics, but as a whole is
deficient of any solid evidence relevant to the discussion of
victim precipitated murder.
