2. AHS
• In season 2, the montage includes fast cuts of patients being
tortured through different methods of both physical and mental
torture e.g. being stuck in an isolated room with no
communication with the outside world and electric shock
therapy along with being strapped to a bed and experimented
on.
• The AHS intros are always a montage of what to expect e.g.
you can expect witchcraft in Season 3 because rituals and
voodoo dolls are being shown in the montage and
madness/disturbing scenes in Season 2 just by watching the the
introduction as it shows asylum patients and the physical and
mental torture that they go through. It symbolises what to
expect from the series in the form of a programme.
3. The Girl with the Dragon
Tattoo
• Symbolic: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: The format of this
OTS is symbolic. It suggests the film will be dark, violent,
disturbing and shocking however none of the scenes will
foreshadow the film. The intro uses black and other dull colours
with low key lighting to signify danger and the world or location
the film is set in is dark and corrupt. The music makes the
audience feel uncomfortable which sets the mood for the film as
it's going to be twisted and distressing for the audience.
4. Marco Polo
• Another symbolic intro would be the intro from Marco Polo. This
intro symbolises what we an expect from the show and what's
going to happen. We can tell this is the case since we can see
blood on the sand which connotes conflict in the desert and war
from the armed shadows on horses. These events may not have
anything to do with the actual programme but is foreshadowing
what the programme will be based around.
