JAZZ Jazz, Ragtime, developed in the 1920’s. Jazz and the upbeat ragtime music with a new style of dancing was consider the devils music by some diverse parts of the American public. African style dance erupted with dance moves named as: Shimmy, Turkey Trot, Buzzard Lope, Chicken Scratch, Monkey Glide, Bunny Hug
MOVIES Dominated by silent movies, movies were considered art forms with universal appeal. Music was played to express emotions, and drama. Sound was introduced in (1923), it was recorded on the side of the film in sync with the movie. The first movie theaters were call “Nickelodeons”. In (1927) the first movie was made with talking in it, the name of the movie was, JAZZ SINGER. In (1927) Hollywood became the center of movie making in the US. The 1920’s had the greatest output of movies, an average of 800 movies a year.
Literature; reading was very popular back in the 1920’s winter months, where as activities were limited. There were books, magazines, newspapers and educational materials. Some books that defined the 1920’s: Eliot, T.S.  “ The Waste Land” Locke, A.  “ The New Negro” Fitzgerald, S. F.   “The Great Gatsby” O’Neill, E.   “Strange Interlude” Hemingway, E.   “The Sun Also Rises”

Science Many of our appliances were invented in the 1920’s, most of your electrical items such as TV’s, Irons, Radio’s, Air-conditioners, Refrigerators ETC. Employment started to boom in industry, in the manufacturing field. Major healthcare breakthroughs such as the discovery of Vit. C and E, penicillin, insulin for diabetics, and immunization innovations. New forms of power and weapons came about through the discovery of atomic particles. More was learned about Jupiter and Mars, in 1926 Goddard, H. was the first person to launch a liquid fueled rocket.
