This document assesses Pakistan's solid waste management system and proposes a more sustainable model from environmental and economic perspectives. It finds that while efforts have been made to improve waste collection, treatment and disposal options have been neglected. The current system is analyzed using waste management indicators to identify gaps. A new model is proposed with interventions like dedicated collection streams, composting, recycling and integrating the informal waste sector. Environmental and economic modeling is performed to estimate potential greenhouse gas reductions and revenue generation. The sustainable upgrades could help Pakistan meet its climate change commitments while reducing costs for waste authorities.
