Recertification



• Re-licensing every 5yrs will be mandatory for
  all doctors wishing to remain in active clinical
  practice

• Recertification will be mandatory for all
  specialists who wish to remain on the
  specialist register
Recertification



• Annual advanced appraisal will be part of the
  relicensing and recertification process

• It will be the responsibility of the individual
  surgeon to keep records of their educational
  and CPD activity and to make declarations
  regarding their health and issues of probity
The E-Portfolio



• The E-Portfolio would be the repository of the
  information required to satisfy the annual
  appraisal process in addition to such other
  demands as required by Discretionary Points and
  ACCEA applications, CV requests and Job
  applications.

• The portfolio would also help support surgeons
  to direct their professional development
The E-Portfolio



• The collection, recording and collating these
  data will be an additional burden upon
  surgeons and the E-Portfolio is being
  developed to minimize the impact upon the
  surgeons time.

The pre-pilot prototype.
• Beta testing took place in the SW in late 08
• Logbook, CPD, draft outcomes, appraisal were
  included to test the scope and feel of an
  online portfolio.
• As a prototype it did not represent what the
  final product will necessarily look like.
• For surgeons and by surgeons was the maxim
The E-Portfolio



• Feedback was sought in order refine the needs
  and to facilitate the recording of their work in
  addition to be used as an evidence tool to aid
  the re-licensing and recertification process for
  the individual surgeon

  plan and job description.
• Logbook details, operative caseload, level of
  supervision, overall caseload.
• CPD, CME
• Outcomes and audit
• Appraisal results , PDP, discrete reports

   – Allow up-load from other sources
   – Attachments and import
   – Outcomes to be updated to specialty standards when
     they become available
   – Audit, Peer review and MSF results
   – Standards to demonstrate compliance
   – CPD accreditation
   – Learning resources
   – Alerts and reflection prompting

  • 2. Recertification • Re-licensing every 5yrs will be mandatory for all doctors wishing to remain in active clinical practice • Recertification will be mandatory for all specialists who wish to remain on the specialist register
  • 3. Recertification • Annual advanced appraisal will be part of the relicensing and recertification process • It will be the responsibility of the individual surgeon to keep records of their educational and CPD activity and to make declarations regarding their health and issues of probity
  • 4. The E-Portfolio • The E-Portfolio would be the repository of the information required to satisfy the annual appraisal process in addition to such other demands as required by Discretionary Points and ACCEA applications, CV requests and Job applications. • The portfolio would also help support surgeons to direct their professional development
  • 5. The E-Portfolio • The collection, recording and collating these data will be an additional burden upon surgeons and the E-Portfolio is being developed to minimize the impact upon the surgeons time.

  • 7. The E-Portfolio • Feedback was sought in order refine the needs and to facilitate the recording of their work in addition to be used as an evidence tool to aid the re-licensing and recertification process for the individual surgeon
  • 8. The E-Portfolio Contents of the Pre Pilot portfolio. • User registration and profile data including job plan and job description. • Logbook details, operative caseload, level of supervision, overall caseload. • CPD, CME • Outcomes and audit • Appraisal results , PDP, discrete reports

The E-Portfolio Feedback. • Very positive – Allow up-load from other sources – Attachments and import – Outcomes to be updated to specialty standards when they become available – Audit, Peer review and MSF results – Standards to demonstrate compliance – CPD accreditation – Learning resources – Alerts and reflection prompting
