Celebrating the arts - A Silent Auction at Grace Episcopal Church, Asheville, NCEllen Brown
This is a catalog of items being offered for sale at a Silent Auction, with final bidding to be held on Sunday evening, February 26th, 2017, at Grace Episcopal Church, in Asheville, NC. Anyone interested in bidding should come by the church and record you bid in person, or call the church 828-254-2242, and let us help you record your bids. We hope to schedule another auction in the summer, and would welcome any items you may have, especially art and antiques! Proceeds from this event will support outreach.
We're having a Silent Auction at Grace Episcopal Church in Asheville, NC. Over thirty-five items have been donated for the auction, including paintings by some of own parishioners, as well as treasures from our attics (i.e. antique clocks, a vintage sewing machine, a Karastan-type rug, and prints and paintings from well-known artists). Photographs of the items will soon be on display in the foyer of the church, and this is a slide show of all the art and antiques. [Correction: Item #16 on page 18 has been removed from the auction.] Please stop by the church and record your bids or you can email your bid to Ellen Brown at inglesferry@gmail.com, or call the church office at 828-254-1086, ext 10. Bidding will close during the Mardi Gras celebration on Sunday, February 26th around 8 p.m. We're looking for help with setting up for the event on Saturday, Feb 25, at about 11 a.m. Contact Ellen with questions, bids, or offers to help. Thanks so much!
Deepa Panchamia, a textile artist and designer spoke about her experiences since graduating 5 years ago - what she had to be aware of straight away and how she researched everything - how to take advantage of free opportunities, getting associated with other organisations for support and funding, working part time, and marketing yourself and networking at all times.
Taking a break from our usual Bedford locations, this month we are bringing creative networking to Sharnbrook. Our more rural location will be accompanied by a focus on RURAL BUSINESS.
We will have inspiration from Harrold based artist Jo Atherton, who sees no boundaries in going further afield with her work. Teresa Bellmaine will give us an introduction to WiRE Bedfordshire (Women in Rural Business Bedfordshire) And as a group, we will have a frank conversation about the issues and needs of creative business in rural areas. The event is an opportunity to chat with other creatives and includes a chance to shout-out about your own work and needs.

It’s easy to think of audience development or patron loyalty cultivation as a job for the marketing department. The fact is, all the departments in an organization must align around patrons in order to make a patron-centered business model work.

‘It was the revolutionary fundraising model that swept Barack Obama to power – and it could help arts bodies in Britain stay in business.’
Are you constantly looking for the right funding route but coming up empty handed? Are you looking for alternative routes to fund your project that doesn’t rely on public bodies? Would you like to start engaging people with your project now? Crowdfunding could be your answer.
Crowdfunding is a modern, online and interactive way to raise funds directly from the public – or the Crowd – for your projects and activities. With the advent of Crowdfunding we can now turn our audiences into supporters and funders, by collecting multiple small donations online and offering unique incentives to encourage giving, not only can you raise funds to get your project of the ground but you can start to build a ‘buzz’ around it before hand.
The workshop will cover all the aspects you will need to create, implement and market your Crowdfunding project. Including:
• How does Crowdfunding work?
• Where can I crowdfund – what platforms are available?
• How to write the perfect pitch.
• Choosing the right rewards.
• Marketing your crowdfunding project.
• Engaging, thanking and keeping in touch with your new funders.
• Marketing your progress.
• Your next steps.

Preparing Proposals: Communicating Your Arts Practice VerballyArtLinks
The value of words and articulating what you do and how you do it cannot be
underestimated and is something many artists struggle with. A good statement in
defining the public understanding of your work is invaluable to your practice as is
the ability to clearly identify what you want to say about your work, and how you
want to say it. The presentation of this visually is also key.
The main focus of this practical workshop is to help the artist communicate the core essence of what
they do to a variety of publics - peers, galleries, interested individuals and
potential clients.
This workshop will be a step by step 'how-to' guide in the use of
language and the presentation of the core concepts of your work in a written,
spoken and visual format. It is intended that participants will come away with the
tools to be able to speak and write, clearly and professionally about their work, in
a variety of formats - proposals, artist s statement and C.V.
