That the 2013 Downtown Annual Report, entitled “The Start of Awesome…a look back at
Downtown Kitchener in 2013”.
In 2012, the City of Kitchener and the Downtown Kitchener BIA jointly developed and adopted the Downtown Kitchener Action Plan 2012-2016. This action plan, a collaborative venture, is intended to guide the work and effort of both organizations in enhancing Downtown Kitchener.
The plan contains four core areas of focus and a series of strategic imperatives. The areas of
focus include:
1. An Amazing King Street Experience
2. New Urban Neighbourhoods
3. An Innovation District
4. Foster a Collaborative Community
The Artisans Courtyard was a volunteer-backed nonprofit effort to create an artists village at Cooks Creek Park in Dayton, Virginia. This presentation contains highlights of our 2011-2013 experience, with lessons learned that may be helpful to others.

Fashion designer Luke Archer will talk about how he’s built his brand. His story includes a Young Designer of the Year Award, working with Digswell Arts Trust, and a YMCA Bedford collaboration, which saw him share his skills with 3 young people for a week as part of the YM Awards 2015. Laura White, owner of Golden Hare Gallery, Ampthill, will be telling us her own inspiring business story including her experience of the Princes Trust ‘Explore Enterprise’, her national #smallbiz100 status in Small Biz Saturday 2015 and her passion to promote traditional craft techniques and get recognition for talented artists working in the UK.

Creative Bedfordshire - Planning to Succeed - Creative Networking - December ...Creative Bedfordshire
Join us in Bedford for creative networking at The Quarry Theatre at St Lukes. There will be local inspiration - on the subject of good planning - and funding advice for businesses, including freelancers, from the Arts Council England. We are also here to celebrate the achievements of our network during 2015 and to look ahead together to 2016.
Independent dance producer Jih-Wen Yeh, will talk about the importance of the planning skills of a producer to the success of creative projects across the performing and visual arts.
The Quarry Theatre team will step front-of-house to offer practical planning advice, across the perspectives of: producing a local festival, an international festival and producing in a professional theatre.
Questions are welcomed by all our speakers. The evening also includes a chance to tell us about your work, and to chat informally.

Lizzie is Senior Visitor Experience Officer at Dunstable Downs and Chiltern Gateway Centre and has worked for the National Trust for six years. Coming from a background in Heritage Conservation and communicating literary heritage, she is now looking at ways of deepening local communities’ connection with the Downs through creativity and storytelling.

Paul Byass, founder, The Design Orchard, a product design consultancy based in Clophill, will talk about how a Rural Development Programme transformed an agricultural building into a creative studio.
Lisa King, from Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity (BRCC) will be available to answer rural funding questions regarding the LEADER programme.

on an evening of playful exploration into the DIY artist’s mind-set. Aid & Abet’s David Kefford and Sarah
Evans will ask how can artists activate the local scene, build a network, create an artist led space and
make things happen without big money or big cities. Based in Cambridge, they are interested in socially
engaged practice that enables groups to work together and explore everyday life through creative activity.
