Ashtar Command
History
Ashtar Command haven’t always stuck to one genre, they are known for Indie
Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Alternative Rock and Chillout. They have released one
album, “Love Songs in Advance of the Landing”, one EP, “Holding Out For
Love” and have had their songs feature in all manner of things across media,
ranging from video games like Fifa 13 and Red Dead Redemption to Nissan
commercials, to the Avengers Soundtrack.
One of the co-founders of Ashtar Command has worked with Paul McCartney
and even went on tour in South America with him in May 2011.
Style of the Band
Ashtar Command’s songs typically have underlying messages within them
and often have a theme of love attached, this can be seen by a select few
examples of songs/albums, “Holding Out For Love”, “Into Dust”, “Solve My
Problems Today”, “Four Years Gone”. Their songs are often quite slow paced
with the lyrics almost acting as a back up to the music which is
unconventional as it is normally the other way around.
Audience and Expectations
As mentioned in my potential ideas post, I would say that Ashtar Command
have a rather niche audience, consisting of non-gender specific, under 25’s
who are fans of the chillout genre. The expectations of their audience are
probably in line with what the majority of their songs already are, lyrics with an
underlying message, not too many lyrics, and slow-paced, relaxing acoustics.
How are they represented?
With Ashtar Command being a relatively unknown band they don’t release
many albums and therefore aren’t in many magazine articles, because of
this it is difficult to say how they are represented. However I have inserted
an image below of their only albums CD Cover and it complies with what me
and Tristan had in mind, in terms of a potential idea, nature.
