Levelwise PageRank with Loop-Based Dead End Handling Strategy : SHORT REPORT ...Subhajit Sahu
Abstract — Levelwise PageRank is an alternative method of PageRank computation which decomposes the input graph into a directed acyclic block-graph of strongly connected components, and processes them in topological order, one level at a time. This enables calculation for ranks in a distributed fashion without per-iteration communication, unlike the standard method where all vertices are processed in each iteration. It however comes with a precondition of the absence of dead ends in the input graph. Here, the native non-distributed performance of Levelwise PageRank was compared against Monolithic PageRank on a CPU as well as a GPU. To ensure a fair comparison, Monolithic PageRank was also performed on a graph where vertices were split by components. Results indicate that Levelwise PageRank is about as fast as Monolithic PageRank on the CPU, but quite a bit slower on the GPU. Slowdown on the GPU is likely caused by a large submission of small workloads, and expected to be non-issue when the computation is performed on massive graphs.

2. "Chasing Cars" is a popular ballad by Snow Patrol released in July 2006 as the
third single from the band's fourth record "Eyes Open". It peaked at #6 in the
UK, #5 in the US and #5 on the Billboard Modern Rock/Alternative Singles
Chart. The song became popular in the US after being featured on the
television show "Grey's Anatomy" and has remained extremely popular in
the UK, remaining on the UK Top 75 for a non-consecutive 85 weeks and still
running.
According to the Chasing Cars Song facts, frontman Gary Lightbody wrote
this in the garden of producer Garret "Jacknive" Lee's cottage after a white
wine binge. He has since said that it's "the most pure and open love song I've
ever written.
All about the song
3. Audience Feedback
Here we can see, the song is timeless, in my opinion songs with the
indie genre have a timeless feel to them. As you can see from the
second comment the song reminds them of their childhood, but it
wasn’t just this comment which comment on this there was quite a
few comments on this. I think there is an automatic connection
with the audience, because it is aimed at teenagers upwards and
most of this age group have gone through a heartbreak or waiting
for the right time.
4. Snow patrol- Chasing cars
The Lyrics of the song are a huge statement
for the song, due to one of the lines being ‘if I
lay here’ and throughout the video he is lying
on the floor singing the lyrics, so definitely
linking to Andrew Goodwin’s theory, it has a
visual style, and amplifies the lyrics to the
audience. In my opinion I don’t really like this
music video due to the fact its not very
visually stimulating, but that could be the
idea behind the video to show the boredom
of waiting for the love of his life.
5. As we can see he is representing the lyrics, in
a way this could represent the loneliness
which he has felt, because there isn't anyone
around, but also its almost like hi life has
stood still but everyone's life carries on as a
normal, which could link to the boredom
factor.
For the final shot we see the main singer, laying on a
bed waiting for love of his life, this links to Richard
Dyer’s, theory of a star image. Its almost like he is
waiting for you to buy the song, and then his life
starts. But this another video which is very much for
a patriarchy society.
6. There are a couple of Binary opposite in this music video which sums
up the whole video…
Strong vs. Weak in my opinion, the lead singer is the weaker
person because he waiting for his love and the female is the strong
one due to the one who has the power. Which then links onto the
next binary opposite….
Patriarchy vs. Feminism in my opinion, this particular video
challenges the normal views that men have more power than
women, but I think this video connotes that women have equal
power.
