I was sat waiting in a local coffee shop when I noticed her entering. I could tell this wasn’t the type of place she was comfortable in as her attitude stood out from the rest of the people sitting, drinking their coffees delicately. She seemed nervous and told me she’d never had an interview before. However, you could tell she was excited to get started with the questions I was dying to ask her! She ordered a milkshake and a cake, you could tell she was still young as she had a young taste for sweet things. You couldn’t tell she was seventeen, as her face was still young and childish and she had a smile so cheeky, you could tell she could get away with murder with it! With a name like Lolly, you could she had some difference in her. She told me her birth name Lauren wasn’t fun enough, she said it bored her and her friends thought it up and it clinged to her and suited the difference in her personality compared to others. We started to talk about her band and how they got started and where a name like Cosmic Dust. “I’ve been friends with my band for a couple of years now.. We’ve grown up together since.. err.. High School. It’s not weird that they’re all boys because I was grown up with a brother, so I’ve always understood them and found them far less bitchy than girls! Girls are way too complicating with mood swings!” [laughs] “We never really expected to start a band.. It just literally happened and the name we came up with is tacky but it came from a cartoon called Superted which I’ve always loved!”. I could tell in her eyes that she could talk for hours, she lit up everytime a question was asked and she said it made her feel famous. Although she seemed shy walking in, as soon as she spoke, she was so friendly yet so strange at the same time. “When you’re a little girl, you have dreams about what you want to be and honestly, I never really wanted to be a singer or be famous infact. I actually wanted to be a policewoman! All that excitement, I like doing something different. I wasn’t into Barbies and being a hairdresser. I found action men more exciting because.. well, of the name! Action man. It’s adventure. I didn’t want to be in a band at first, it seemed too.. Unreal for me. Infact I was the only one of us that didn’t think making a band was a good idea! Mitch, Sam and Jack thought it all up. They can get me to do anything though and when they told me all the things we could do and how much fun it would be, I thought.. Yeah, it would be fun! And it is!” She rambled on about her band and you could tell they were close. She seemed dedicated to them and inspired by them, it was good to see that she had made such a good friendship with them. “If I lost my friends in my band.. I don’t know what I’d do! It’s strange to think that they literally control me! Without them, I wouldn’t do the things I do. I’d be shy and I wouldn’t be willing to start a band, that’s for sure! They make me realise how young I am and how far I have to go in my life!” Talking about her boy friends got us onto the topic about boys and how she feels about relationships which I found surprising with what she had to say as it made her different from other seventeen year old girls. “In High School I actually went out with Sam..” [laughs] “It’s so weird to think it now because we’re so close but we did go out! He was friends with Mitch and Jack before I was and that’s how we all met. So it’s a good thing we actually broke up because we are so much better as friends! I’ve never really looked for a boyfriend and I don’t really have boyfriends because they’re too much hassle. I hate breaking up with someone too! It’s so awkward because I want to be friends with them but I never know how to handle the situation!”She ordered another cake and could happily eat it without complaining about her weight and how fat she felt. She had a loud voice and her personality filled the whole room which made people stare because of the excitement she had inside her! “I’ve always been different from other girls.. Mainly because I was more of a boy girl” [laughs] “I do have friends that are girls but not many because I can’t deal with the fall outs I use to have with them! I’m very sensitive when it comes to arguing and I just back down like a puppy! I dress different I guess too. I’m not into frilly skirts but I do have my girly piece of clothing. I have a lot of dark clothing which some people would class as ‘emo’ or something but I’ve never paid attention to labelling.. Not because I find it offensive or anything.. I’ve just never understood it. I like my style because I wear what I like even if it’s silly, I like being who I am!”We got back onto the topic of her career and what she wants and what’s going to happen in the near future, we’d spoken for three hours now and she was still lit up and spicey even without having coffee to boost her energy. “Although I didn’t like the idea of the band before, I do now! I really do! I think we have talent and I believe we could achieve something! Our first gig we ever did at The Shed was immense and it made me want all of this even more! People clapping for you and cheering gives me a feeling of success and adrenaline. It’s made me realise that this is the adventure I’ve wanted all along! I’ve moved on from Action Man now! My band mates are all so awesome too, they’re so talented and it makes me smile to see them practising and have so much effort put into what they do! I’d love to play as a supporting act, it’d give us a chance to be noticed. I want this to happen for my band more than myself as I know they’re dedicated to their work”.After a long day listening and having so much to ask, I knew the interview had to come at an end sooner or later. We walked out the coffee shop and she was telling me how she was going to hit the clubs with her band the following night. With her rocky attitude, kooky clothing and cheeky smile.. I knew that we would hear from Lolly’s antics in the future!
