The thing I would ask that you think about as we talk is this – are you making critical decisions on last month’s data, or are you running your business in real-time?
Organizations are increasingly using Splunk to provide valuable insights beyond IT and security.
We’re making it easy to leverage your machine data with other structured data whether you're focused on business process analytics, customer experience or other areas that you can learn more about this afternoon.
Company overview: Sonic is 4th largest burger chain in the US behind McDonalds, Burger King and Wendy’s. They have 3500+ locations around the US and serve 3M customers daily. They had 4B in sales in 2015
Initial Use Case: Sonic got started with Splunk with Application monitoring, management and troubleshooting use cases.
Expansion: When in the process of rolling out new POS systems across 3500 locations in the US, Sonic leveraged Splunk to ensure uptime and understand how they were performing. Sonic very quickly started leveraging Splunk to ensure price consistency of goods across their locations. They wanted to avoid the situation where a same good was priced differently at two locations. This has a big impact not only on customer experience but also franchisee experience as well. The price arbitration also leads to revenue loss. As these new POS devices were being rolled out, Splunk helped ensure that there was price consistency between various POS. A central price DB hosted in the cloud pushes updated to a central on-premise management server for all POS systems. Prior to Splunk the data was manually entered into the POS systems leading to errors and inconsistencies. With Splunk Sonic was able to take data from the central pricing server and combine that with logs from POS server to highlight discrepancies.
Data sources used: emails, databases, windows logs, POS data, middleware logs

Coca-cola uses Splunk to understand connected vending machines, including the Coca-Cola Freestyle. They are able to better understand patterns in consumption as well as the performance of the machines, both of which ultimately lead to better customer satisfaction.
Gatwick Airport is the busiest single lane runway airport in the world, processing up to 925 flights per day
To compete on a global stage, the airport needs to provide the best passenger experience and ensure that all flights arrive and depart on time
Splunk Cloud allows Gatwick to unite data from multiple sources to better-run airport operations by dramatically reducing queues and increasing the number of flights per hour. Since deploying Splunk Cloud, Gatwick Airport has seen benefits including:
Quicker passenger flow leading to better passenger experience and increased revenue
Fewer missed take-off slots enabling them to meet critical SLA’s and increased revenue
Optimize resources to match passenger peaks
With Splunk as the foundation of your machine data fabric your organizations have access to the most flexible, pervasive and multi-use data architecture available
Collect data once and empower teams across the entire organization with insights. A weblog might be the key to uncovering a cross site scripting attack. At the same time an operations team is analyzing them to meet their SLAs. The marketing team can use them to follow a customer journey. Let’s not forget about the developer, they need to maintain their continuous delivery pipeline. That’s the beauty of the machine data fabric: different people, asking different questions of the same data.
