Kiki Smith was born in Germany in 1994 to an artistic family. She became interested in art at a young age by making cardboard models of her sculptor father's work. In her teen years, she was part of the hippie movement and devoted herself to nature. She later attended art school in Connecticut for three terms. Inspired by anatomy books from her father, she began creating sculptures of the body using materials like bronze, paper, and wax. Her sculptures later evolved to include animals and narrative themes. Considered a feminist artist, her works are often metaphors for deeper issues and frequently depict symbols of birth, regeneration, and Catholicism.
The children in the after school art club created various artworks including small museum models, calligrams, drawings, self-portraits, and drawings made with insulating tape. They chose artworks they liked and created collections with the pieces hung on walls. Some works were inspired by specific artists like Franz Marc and Andy Warhol, incorporating techniques and styles like those artists used. The children showed their finished artworks and demonstrated their talents as artists.
As we launch into this new year, Elizabeth Sadoff Art Advisory wishes to thank the standard bearers of the Art World; the makers, the advocates and the collectors who keep the formula alive. We invited Berry Campbell and Chambers Fine Art to select three artists respectively whom we would feature in our ESAA Winter – artists who would offer an introduction into each gallery’s unique program model.

long nez retroussé.

14. Los Angeles native Mike Stilkey has always
been attracted to painting and drawing not only
on vintage paper, record covers and book
pages, but on the books themselves. Using a
mix of ink, colored pencil, paint and lacquer,
Stilkey depicts a melancholic and at times a
whimsical cast of characters inhabiting ambigu-
ous spaces and narratives of fantasy and fairy
tales. A lingering sense of loss and longing hints
at emotional depth and draws the viewer into
their introspective thrall with a mixture of capri-
cious poetry, wit, and mystery. His work is remi-
niscent of Weimar-era German expressionism
and his style has been described by some as
capturing features of artists ranging from
Edward Gorey to Egon Schiele.
His more recent work is been shown at
Kinsey/DesForges Gallery in Culver City, CA,
Rice University Gallery, Houston, TX, and
Gilman Contemporary Gallery, Ketchum, ID.
