If I was to open a gallery tomorrow, I would put Masaccio and Da Vinci, along with Claude Monet and
Pierre Auguste Renoir. The reason I would pick these four artist is that Masaccio and Da Vinci like to use
shadow and light in their paintings, where Monet and Renoir use colors.
I would like people to be able to come in and enjoy the different pictures, sculptures and paintings. I
also know that not everyone likes the same thing. I also like to look at the pastel and colors. Sometimes
you can look at a picture or painting and feel like you are part of the picture. If you look closely you can
see the brush strokes the artist used.
I have seen many people trying to get up and close to paintings to see the strokes of a painter’s.
Masaccio and Da Vincilike to you the sun or light to accent certain parts of their paintings. For me it
shows a part of the painting you look at first.
There are many ‘artist’ out there that that try to copy what Masaccio, Da Vinci, Monet and Renoir
painting and sculptures, but not two are alike. To me, looking at the painting online or in person, I try to
look close at the brush strokes, yet they seem so smooth, yet some look like they are lifted off the
canvas. One thing that I do like and wish to one day see is Master of Art – Live. That is where people
become the painting and hold a pose for 20 seconds. I hear on the news people both who are doing it
and the ones looking, talking about how fun, yet how real it seems. It gives people a chance to enjoy art
in a 3-D effect.
In this time, there are many artist out there, but the death and color you see in Masaccio’s garden
painting, you don’t see in today artist’s work. Yes, they can copy what Masaccio did, but you are not
seeing the same thing the Masaccio saw. The fields and gardens are very rare to find these days and
sadly many paint from memory or looking at an artist’s work from centuries ago.
Many artist like Da Vinci, like to also do self-portraits. If you look at the self-portraits, many you will see
do women or other men in their image. I found a better understanding of art since I took this class. I
have learn the difference of light and dark. I also learn that people have opinions as how people view art
in photos. In my lifetime, I know that Andy Warhol was big for using a soup can and calling it art. Yet
years later, you have a person taking pictures of children, not in a bad way, and that is called porn. As
someone who might run a gallery one day, I have to look at everything with an open eyes. To many a
photo might just look like that, a photo. Depending on what you are looking at, you might want to keep
an open mind and you might be surprised what you really see.
At the start of this class I did a report on Barbara Kruger. She was a person who took black and white
photos and use red to display her message. Many of her messages are used on billboards and even some
t-shirts. They might not have the photo, but the messages are still there.
I guess what you take from art is how you feel when looking at it. I look at the Renoir’s painting of
lilies/garden paintings and can almost feel like I am standing in the middle of them.
