These are some digital paintings I’ve done independently. I use an iPad pro and
focus mainly on portrait work. I find working with colours is easier digitally, and
opens up a variety of brush tools to experiment with. I like to improve my
drawing skills in my spare time and use new techniques in all aspects of my art.
Our 3D project brief was ‘Shrines’, which was a fairly open topic. I chose to
incorporate my favourite possession – a signed portrait of singer Courtney Love. I
wanted to experiment with materials I hadn't used before, so I used clay, wood and
metal to make a puppet doll. I made the metal links myself, designed and cut the
wood using power tools. I then used acrylic paint to design the face, and I was
happy with the outcome for just a 2 week project.
Our fine art project was to recreate a historic painting in the style
of a contemporary artist. Doing this enabled me to develop
practical skills in painting. My contemporary artist was Marlene
Dumas and my historic piece was Portrait of a Dominatrix.
Our photography / visual communication project set the
theme of Boundaries, which I set out to cross by producing
a series of images made through the eyes of somebody
stalking someone else throughout the day.
This 3D project was based on the theme of ‘Topsy-Turvy’. I
wanted random strewn-together wood sculptures to create
intricate faces in the shadows. They came out exaggerated
and strange, with multiple possibilities from both of the
wooden heads.
These are a series of digital tattoo flash
sheets I created. I used pop songs and
feminine imagery as my inspiration, and
taught myself to work in a more stylised
manner.
I explored typography in a unique manner, using my friend’s hair
as the media. I created bold letters by braiding her hair.
I repurposed and customised vinyl records for my most recent 3D
project, using my own music taste to create customised pieces. I
thought the two jackets would be an interesting take on 3D, and the
cutouts would require the use of processes I’d never used before.
Paper Construction consisted of creating a scale model of a figure out of
paper and masking tape. From this, I then drew the model, aiming to
capture the texture and fluidity of masking tape. I drew this picture without
lifting my pen off the paper.
This one week project was titled ‘Micro-Macro’ – I
chose a close up of bacteria to redraw, colour and
arrange into an interesting pattern. I used
watercolour, and then inverted the colour for a
wider range of colours
These were both part of an observational drawing practise, experimenting with
materials, scale, method and composition. I found a ragdoll which I thought
would make for interesting results, and for the second series I created a
landscape to work from out of foliage and flowers.
This project brief was to create a 90s style fanzine using a fashion collection and
relevant imagery, combining low fi and digital methods. I chose Alexander
McQueen’s 09 Autumn/Winter collection. When presenting the zine I inverted the
colours to switch up the colour scheme and alter perspective.
