Armenians traditionally celebrated the New Year on March 21st, the birthday of the pagan god Vahagn, but now celebrate on January 1st like most cultures. The New Year is one of Armenians' most beloved holidays where they prepare rich feasts and tables for weeks in advance believing it will bring good fortune for the year. Traditional foods served include pork legs, meat snacks, pastries, fruits, nuts and syrup-soaked walnuts, along with flatbread called Darin that has a hidden coin determining the family's lucky member. But the most important dish remains Dolma.
