Teaching Equivalence in Fractions with Unlike Denominators...
Once students get to the fourth grade, learning equivalence in fractions with unlike denominators is
something that they can look forward to...or not look forward to. It can be a very tough lesson and
something that is hard for the children to understand. They need to have a simple understanding of
fractions already. They need to know what they are and how they add up together. Meaning that
they need to understand that fractions are a part of a whole...a fractionof something, and that if the
fractions are equal they can add up to create a whole. The easiest way to describe this and review
it is with a circle representing a pie. Each slice comes from the pie and all put together its a whole.
Also the stronger the students is with their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next the teacher would show them an unequivalent fraction by having them compare 1/2 and 1/3
in their circle. They look close...but they arent! From here a worksheet would be given out with
some fractions for the children to identify their equal. They would work in partner groups and use
their pie pieces to research and experiment and find the answer. This will give the students a good
chance to work together and investigate with hands on pieces and think through the questions.
All of the previous work the students have done with the manipulatives and the visual aids should
have given them a good foundation for writing fractions and seeing how they are represented with
numbers and not just physical parts or fractions of a whole. There is a pattern between equivalent
fractions that is based on counting by multiples. It can also be explained on knowing and using
basic multiplication tables. To find an equivalent fraction is basic multiplication of both the
numerator and the denominator by a number that is more than one or zero. Two is a very good base,
low number to start with. Next is to explain to the students that with equivalent fraction problems
you are looking for that missing number, that missing part that makes it complete.
For example, 2/5 is equal to 4/?
The teacher explains that in order to solve for the missing, you will have to determine 3 times
(what) equals 6. Or divide 3 into 6. From

What Caused The Tiananmen Square Massacre
Though termed the Tiananmen Square Massacre, this incident actually took place throughout
China. What started out as a peaceful protest calling for political and economic reforms, soon
turned to bloodshed. (Hu 2015)This greatly impacted China s international relationships. Contact
between China and Western nations declined, official visits were suspended. Western powers
imposed arms embargoes and economic sanctions, preventing the sale of military equipment, and
approval of loans. (The National Bureau of Asian Research) Understanding the causes of the
Tiananmen Square Massacre, and its effects on China s international relationships, aids in better
understanding the nuances of this infamous incident. Many factors such as, growing liberalization,
economic disparities, and inflations. led to the protests. During Mao Ze Dong s leadership, the
Chinese government collectivized industries and agriculture. After his death, his successor Deng
Xiao Ping implemented the Gai Ge Kai Fang policy, de collectivizing industries and agriculture.
(Huenemann 2017) This policy also allowed citizens greater freedom. Some academics even
received encouragement from the government to take an active political stance. (The Editors of
Encyclopædia Britannica) Following the privatization of agriculture and industries, China
experienced great economic growth. Unfortunately, this also caused the rate of corruption, and
economic disparities to surge. China also experienced price inflations as it

Essay on Undisclosed Desires for Nellie Washington
It wasn t too hot or too cold, it was the perfect weather. I lifted my hands over my head and took a
deep breath. The grass was slightly moist from the rain last night. I stepped out into the bright
sunlight, urging my muscles to wake up. Fall was literally around the corner and I was trying to
enjoy the last few days of summer before the leaves started turning brown and everyone brought
out the pumpkins and turkeys. I glanced at my watch and read the time. I had thirty minutes
before school and I hadn t done anything to get ready. I hadn t even brushed my teeth yet or made
my bed. I woke up, rubbed my eyes and came out onto the front porch. I had a valid excuse for
waking up and going outside though, I wanted to catch her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Car troubles? I d say just to break the ice.
Nellie would look at me and smile. You re an angel, Ian! She would say in delight or something
like that.
And in my fantasy, she d have on a skirt that showed off her killer legs. No, I was not some pervert.
I just thought Nellie Washington would look sexy in a skirt. Since I had never seen her in one, I
couldn t really picture her as well as I wanted to.
But this was not fantasy, it was reality and in reality Nellie was wearing grey skinny jeans and a
grey t shirt with some weird blue police box on it. It was the kind of shirt you saw on comic book
nerds.
As this is reality, and Nellie is a very responsible girl for her age, her car came to life and I was
instantly disappointed. She pulled out of her garage and onto the empty street after she look
both ways five times. I watched as she zoomed off down the road and headed over to the
mailbox. There was nothing inside for me. Most of it was for my dad, a couple were for my mom
and there was one for Matt, my younger twin brother.
I hoped he hadn t gotten the last bit of Nutella.
Matt was sitting at the kitchen table shoveling spoonfuls of cereal, muffins and cups of orange juice
in his mouth when I walked in.
Damn. He muttered as a bit of orange juice fell on him.

Characteristics Of Giles Corey In The Crucible
Is it possible for somebody to go to court thirty three times and win all those times? For Giles
Corey in The Crucible. Giles Corey has been to court that amount of times and has won all those
times. Giles Corey is married to Martha and lives in Salem. Sadly, in The Crucible Giles gets
arrested for contempt of court and is pressed to death for not giving a yes or no answer to being
convicted of witchcraft. Giles Corey and I share the traits sarcastic, determined, and loyal.
Giles Corey and I have sarcastic as a common trait. In The Crucible, Giles Corey is known for his
sarcastic humor using one liners during the play. This kind of humor is also mine. For example
in Act I, Giles says Let s get your lumber home, John. I feel a sudden will to work coming on.
when Thomas Putnam was arguing with John Proctor over land. I also go this to my friends
when they argue. Just like Giles Corey, I have comments for almost everything. Sometimes I say
them out loud to friends or just think of them in class to myself. I m known for being sarcastic to
my friends that know me well, just like Giles is to his friend John Proctor. ... Show more content on

Giles is most known in Salem for going to court thirty three times and winning all the trials for
land. Hearing how Giles is determined to get the land, I can also relate to that trait. For example,
just this year I got my first job all on my own. I filled out applications with some help but got an
interview and the job all on my own. Just like Giles I was also set on another goal, being Alice for
my Alice In Wonderland ballet dance last year. I worked hard and beat out the other girls receiving

How Is Pete Seeger s Interview Related To The Civil Rights...
In their interview with the Civil Rights History Project, folksingers Guy and Candie Carawan
sing the songs Tree of Life, Eyes on the Prize, and We Shall Overcome. The Carawans worked at
the Highlander Folk School in Tennessee, where activists from around the country came to be
trained in nonviolent philosophy and learned the songs of the movement. She explains, There
were songs for every mood. You know, there were the very jubilant songs. There were the very
sad songs when someone was killed. You know, there were the songs you used at parties. There
was all the humor where you picked fun at people, the satire. Activist and folk singer Pete Seeger

recalls in her interview, Highlander was raided by the police, who shut off all the lights in the

he was actually shaking, do you have to sing so loud? And I could not believe it. Here these
people had all the guns, the billy clubs, the power, we thought. And he was asking me, with a

Forehead In The Sky Classification
At 29,035 feet( National Geographic) , Mount Everest is the top of the world. Split in half by the
Nepalese and Chinese border this is just one of the enormous mountains in the mountain range
named the Himalayas. This spectacle of nature doesn t come without it s risks though, about 240
people have died on the mountain. The locals call Everest Sagarmatha, meaning Forehead in the
Sky , and it was first climbed in 1953. Sir Edmund Percival Hillary, a New Zealand veteran, and
Tenzing Norgay, a Nepalese sherpa, were the first to summit Sagarmatha. Hillary and Tenzing took
seven weeks to reach the summit on May 29, 1953. Since then about 4,000 climbers have
attempted the deadly climb. But Hillary was the very first to do it.
Many people think climbing a mountain is an almost vertical climb all the way up. But that is not
the case, there are many smaller climbs that go both up and down. The climb is very demanding
on the body. You must be in top shape if you expect to summit the mountain. To get all the way up
you need oxygen tanks, because the air is too thin once you get near the top. There are many
camps up the mountain for climbers to rest for the night or day. But you must acclimatize, or let
your body get used to the thin air (Mount Everest.Net). A common method is to... Show more

Ineffective Discharge Education
Ineffective discharge teaching often leads to unnecessary admissions to the hospital resulting in
negative patient outcomes and decreased patient satisfaction. This negatively impacts the well
being of the patient and creates a financial burden on institutions. As a result, this universal
practice issue requires a call to action on the part of the nursing profession. Nurses can proactively
assist in assuring incidents of readmission do not occur. Nurses as educators play a critical role in
the successful transition of patients from hospital to home. The overall goal of discharge education
is to ensure there is an exchange of critical information between the patient and nursein which plans
of care are understood and followed. The research

The Yellow Wallpaper, By Charlotte Perkins Gilman And A...
Unaccustomed The short stories, The Yellow Wallpaper, written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and
A Rose for Emily, written by William Faulkner, have a lot in common regarding the main
characters. Each narrative focuses on the lifestyle and behavior of a bizarre woman who has been
kept away for a certain period of time. One could argue that these women were not initially
deranged, though something must have occurred to send them on such a downward spiral. The
main characters in each account, Jane and Miss Emily, endure situations in their lives which prove
to be crucial in the development of their mental illness, and being isolated gradually causes their
illness to escalate. Jane and Miss Emily both face a monumental change in their lives, which results
in the conclusion that mental illness is the cause of their strange behavior. The women face
profoundly different catastrophes; however, each occurrence involves their families. In Charlotte
Perkins Gilmans The Yellow Wallpaper
, during an exchange between John and Jane, John
explains, I beg of you, for my sake and for our child s sake, as well as for your own, that you will
never for one instant let that idea enter your mind! (Gilman 137). Jane gives birth to a little baby
boy, which is when her life takes a turn for the worse. Jane begins showing unusual, if not utterly
insane, behavior, as well as depression and anxiety, which is a result of her post partum depression.
In William Faulkner s, A Rose for Emily, he

Rock N Roll Counterculture
Rock n roll and punk have often been pitted against each other to determine which is the superior
genre of music. Persons of the respective parties can be found in groups debating whether or not
punk or rock n roll is the superior genre; most subscribers to these genres become quick masters of
all things punk or rock n roll. Both will sit around with various alcoholic beverages strewn about,
naming bands in quick succession and ticking them off on their fingers as if doing so adds some
sort of validity to their argument. To survive in such a paramount argument one must learn the lingo
of each subculture, including but not limited to the history, surrounding culture and style, and the
content of a live show and a band s previous records.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is argued over whether rock n roll is a counterculture or not because it was widely popular
amongst children and adults alike at it s prime and ultimately did not present any radically
different ideas, but what can t be argued is rock n roll s seniority and perfected tone. While there
is much to be said about the bands that proudly wear the label punk or rock n roll as a button on
their acid washed jean vests, something has to be said for the history and subculture that defines
each respective genre. Punk refutes social attitudes that have been perpetuated through willful
ignorance of human nature, and rock n roll is just a trend that people followed because of it s
attractive ideal. If it were not for punk, voices as strong and influential as Billie Joe Armstrong or
Sid Vicious would never had made an impact on millions of angry citizens who were surfeited of
systematic oppression and capitalistic ideals. Counterculture has always been political and driven
by the underground, whether it be the Lolita girls of Japan, the Kontrkul tura movement in Russia,
the Nambassa lifestyle in New Zealand, or the Basque Radical Rock movement in Spain, but
nothing quite compares to the raw grit and blood that goes into being punk, the ultimately universal
counterculture. At it s heart punk is anti society and anti normalcy. Because human nature yearns
for acceptance, and punk objects such assimilation, it is the only true

Things They Carried
Tim O Brien does a fantastic job of blurring the lines of what is true and what is fiction in The
Things They Carried. In fact, he often points out that he has made entire stories up, after the fact.
He defends his decisions by proposing that what he has done is, in fact, not lie, but rather tell a story
truth. He argues that his reason for doing this is to bring the story to life more than it could live
through the happening truth. I want you to feel what I felt. I want you to know why story truth is
truer sometimes than happening truth (O Brien, 183). O Brien believes that, when accompanied by
vivid details which essentially make the reader view the scene as a dream, story truths can carry
greater emotional truths than ever possible to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Story telling truth, as has been defined to an extent, isn t completely real. Most frequently, it is
modeled after happening truth, where it re shapes the story. Through the addition of details to the
happening truth, the story becomes more believable. Oftentimes, great morals come from story
truths where they were not previously evident in happening truths. One vivid example of this
would be the scene where Curt Lemon is killed. Following this is the baby water buffalo scene (O
Brien, 74). (O Brien, 80 81).
The details bring the story truth to life, as the reader can picture what is going on more clearly
through a sort of dream. Story truths bring events to life through the imagination. The thing about a
story is that you dream it as you tell it, hoping that others might then dream along with you, and in
this way memory and imagination and language combine to make spirits in the head. There is an
illusion of aliveness (O Brien, 218).
Oftentimes, heroic instances are added to give a story morals, where they may not have been
visible to begin with. Take, for example, the scene where O Brien describes the soldiers who
come upon a killer grenade. One of the soldiers jumped out and attempted to take the blast to save
the rest of the soldiers. Right before they all die, one of the soldiers asks why he jumped out

Three Ethical Theories Of Ageism
Robert Butler a physician, gerontologist, psychiatrist, and Pulitzer Prize winning author, who was
the first director of the National Institute on Aging described ageism as [a] process of systematic
stereotyping or discrimination against people because they are old, just as racism and sexism
accomplish with skin color and gender. Ageismallows the younger generations to see older people
as different than themselves; thus they subtly cease to identify with their elders as human beings.
Butler saw ageism manifested in a wide range of phenomena on both individual and institutional
levels stereotypes and myths, outright disdain and dislike, simple avoidance of contact, and
discriminatory practices in housing, employment, and services of all kinds. In today s society
people view seniors as less valuable. They are perceived as frail and undesirable because of their ...

The Feminist Legal Theory focuses on women who are of mature age being given less rights and
opportunities and are also being disregarded in the discourse. It has been pointed out by feminist
writers that age can be an organizing principle of power, just as gender, race, class, and sexual
orientation are.
In context of how systems maintain some arrangements but also may substitute inequalities in later
life, other authors have begun to contemplate age and gender lenses. For example as a group,
married women and men tend to be better off in terms of their economic/material, health and social
resources than those who are not married. Similarly, younger age associates of married women
have a tendency to be better off than older age associates of married women.
This invites consideration of how rules specifically or cumulatively across the life course aid the

Being the Best Missionary to the Indians
A good missionary is one that simply is respected and accepted by the Indians and who has
successfully spread the word of God to them. Many qualities however though play into obtaining
this presence. A lot of Europeans that came to the new world did not possess these many qualities
to understand the Indians. As a Jesuit myself who is a part of the New FrancemissionI do know on a
first hand basis what it takes to be a good missionary. As a part of the New France mission I have
experienced various encounters with several different Indian nations. I do admit that these
native people are very down to earth and connected with each other very well. The purpose of
are mission to New France was to spread the word of God and our Catholic faith to the natives
and convert them. This process is much easier said than it is to actually be done. For one just
think about trying to first communicate with a person who speaks a different language, has no
idea who you are, and where you came from. To sum it up basically trying to talk with an alien
from another planet in the skies. This leads me to saying that communication and patience are the
top two qualities that we missionaries have to have to even start to succeed with our mission.
Other Frenchmen that came here to the New World to start a new life do not seem up to par with
are communication and patience skills with the natives here. The fact of their skills not up to par
with ours is mainly because as a Jesuit we have been trained

and it does not get worse. According to Funk Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, Cerebral Palsy
is a broad term for various nonprogressive disorders of motor function in people, resulting from
brain damage around the time of birth. Damage to the brain could occur before, during, or shortly
after birth ( Cerebral ). Since the damage is done during the brain s formation, and occurs in the
part of the brain that controls motor and muscle functions, people with CP might have problems
with motor skills, muscle tone, muscle weakness, reflexes, balance, excessive drooling, difficulties
swallowing or speaking, shaking, tremors, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because CP describes a group of neurological and physical abnormalities, people affected by the
disorder may have other neurological and physical problems. CP may not be noticeable at birth.
Children with CP develop predictable developmental milestones slowly because of their motor
impairments, and these delays in reaching milestones are usually the first symptoms (Gale Enc).
Doctors diagnose CP by checking the infant s motor skills, looking for developmental delays,
and considering the child s medical history. Many Doctors use the Early Motor Pattern Profile
(EMPP) to help in their evaluations. The EMPP indicates variations in muscle tone, reflexes, and
movement and is used to identify children during the first year of life who are at risk for the
development of CP. The EMPP can be done during a routine office visit. Observation and minimal
handling can detect abnormal motor patterns, making it quick and inexpensive. EMPP is the
beginning of evaluation and intervention ( Early 692). CP is a neurological disorder affecting
motor control. It is the most common physical disability in childhood. It is a lifelong condition that
varies from person to person. It can be very mild or extremely severe. There is no known cure, and
the cause is not completely understood. The four main categories of CP are spastic, athetoid, ataxic,
and mixed. Spastic is stiff and difficult movement. Athetoid is involuntary and uncontrolled
movement. Ataxic is a disturbed sense of balance and

Hydrothermal Energy Lab Report
back to 1988 journal contributions by Wächtershäuser [10,15] who hypothesized that iron
sulfide chemistry under hydrothermal conditions played a central role in prebiotic chemistry (i.e.,
the ironsulfur world). The hypothesis rests on the notion that the oxidation of FeS to form pyrite
in hydrothermal submarine vent conditions provided the electrochemical power for the reduction
of CO2 to organic molecules. The ``pyrite pulled [11] reaction as proposed by Wächtershäuser
was as follows [10,15]: FeS C H2S ! FeS2 C H2: (19) This proposed reaction provided the
reducing power for the reduction of CO2 preceding the synthesis of biologically relevant
compounds. Thermodynamic calculations by Schoonen et al. [438] associated with the FeS

A further analysis of the CO2 reduction mechanism indicated that a high activation energy exists
for the transfer of electrons from pyrrhotite to CO2 (even though the overall reaction is
thermodynamically favorable). Luther [439], using molecular orbital based arguments, also
suggested that the HOMO of FeS (0.5 eV below the LUMO of CO2) could provide a viable
reducing agent. It was also brought up that FeSaq molecular clusters are present in Fe rich
hydrothermal vent fluids, and it was recently hypothesized that such species could facilitate the
reaction [1] relative to a macroscopic FeS solid. Much of the work involving transition metal
sulfides and their relationships to metabolic processes has been reviewed [12,440]. It is useful

Analysis Of The Woman Hollering Creek
In the Woman Hollering Creek, Sandra Cisneros makes use of several short stories to expose the
Mexican culture destined gender roles inequalities against women. From an utterly young age, most
Mexican girls are endangered to take the household responsibilities as their core duty. Once they
reach adolescence, they imperiled to think about marriage as the unrivaled way for them to leave
their parent s support. I argue that the Mexican culture through the medium of tradition and media
are assembling a society in which woman, from the moment they are born, bear a life of parental
and marital submission.
Moreover, in the Woman Hollering Creek, Cisneros exposes the story of Cleofilas Hernandez.
Cisneros unveils parental submission in Cleofilas life on the first page. Cisneros writes, The day
Don Serafin gave Juan Pedro Martinez Sanchez permission to take Cleofilas Enriqueta DeLeon
Hernandez as his bride... (Cisneros 43). This is significant because it emphasizes the power Don
Serafin has over Cleofilas life, he is in power to directly decide whom she is going to marry by
rejecting or accepting individual. Although, many would argue that rather giving Serafin Cleofilas
is just following the tradition of asking the parents. Since her mother is deceased her father is the
only option, nonetheless, the diction suggests that rather than Cleofilas asking for permission
appears that Cleofilas is being given away. In this instance, her hand is not remotely mentioned thus

Auditory Distraction
The purpose of this experiment was to test how auditory distractions, or background noise,
affects a person s reaction time. Believing that if there were people talking in the background,
then a person s reaction time would be slower because they would be more distracted. We tested
30 people, separated into two groups, using a reaction time stick and noise cancelling headphones.
The first group had no noise, using the noise cancelling headphones, and the reaction times ranged
from 180 to 265. The second group, with background noise played through the headphone, had
reaction times ranging from 135 to 280. The results for both groups were very similar in that the
mean of the data for the group with no noise was 215.4 and the mean of the group with background

A study done in 2009 showed that NR [noise reduction] reduces listening effort and frees up
cognitive resources for other tasks. (Sarampalis, A., Kalluri, S., Edwards, B., Hafter, E., 2009).
Studies also show that low frequency noise at levels normally occurring in office like environments
may influence work performance and subjective perception of annoyance and lead to work
impairment. (Waye, K., Bengtsson, J., Kjellberg, A., Benton, S., 2001). It is also very common for
people to listen to music while driving and if they don t listen to music there is outside noise,
such as traffic that can affect the way they react and perform. A study done in 2015 on the effect
of road traffic noise on reaction time showed that even exposure to traffic noise leads to increase in
reaction time. (Alimohammadi, I., Zokaei, M., Sandrock, S., 2015). These studies show that even
while people may not recognize that noise is affecting them it is and it can be causing problems

Essay On A Systems Approach
In today s economic and industrial environment, a systems approach to the design and operation of
manufacturing and supply is more important than ever. Do you agree with this statement, and why?
When a great idea is created, starting up the business isn t as easy as buying some real estate,
hiring some people, and telling them what to do. A systems approach to how the company is
going to be designed and operated must be created and constantly reanalyzed. A system is a design
that takes in inputs and produces outputs. To create a system, the first situation needs to be looked
at and a purpose or nature must be identified. Next, a list of everything that will be going into the
pizza restaurant must be created and labeled as inputs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that in todays economical and industrial environment, a systems approach is increasingly
important. A working system can help a company run smoothly and efficiently. An example of a
successful system is Walmart and their renowned supply chain system. A failed system is the
reaction to the Katrina disaster management which is still having a lasting effect along the Gulf
coast.
Today, Walmart is a superstore empire with 11500 retail units in 28 counties and employs 2.3
million workers. To reach this success, Walmart has mastered their supply chain management
strategy and system that has allowed them to cut costs and allow consumers to save money. One
technique that Walmart uses is to have fewer links in the supply chain. Walmart started working
directly with the manufactures to save money and be able to have more control over its supply
chain. They used a method called Vendor Managed Inventory which made manufactures responsible
for managing Walmart s orders and keeping them in stock from them inside Walmart s warehouse.
[2] Walmart only sought out strategic vendor partnerships. Walmart would only buy from suppliers
who had the best price and were in a position to meet demand. They then negotiated lower prices by
offering to order from them long term and to make high volume purchases. Walmart then created
communication and relationship networks with the suppliers which allowed

naturally does the job to convey our words into our gestures. Furthermore, interpersonal
communication engages in content and relationship messages. Content message is usually use by

Essay on The Global Warming Controversy
The globe is being rocked by extreme weather and the hottest temperatures on record. As the
average global temperature soars, there are floods, droughts, unusually cold winters, forest fires,
and huge storms. Are all of these horrors being caused by human induced global warming?
The source of global warming is a very controversial topic. Some scientists think that global
warming is a natural part of the Earth s cycle because the Earth has always had natural heating and
cooling cycles. Other scientists believe that global warming is caused by humans dut to the
greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is the accumulation of greenhouse gases such as carbon
dioxide released from the burning of fossil fuels. These scientists believe ... Show more content on

Since being on the green side seems to make the politicians popular, many of them stand up to
global warming. So environmentalists, among of whom are some politicians, hide or just ignore the
facts regarding global warming and its true aspects.
First of all, the environmentalists disregard the fact that there has been several global warming
and cooling periods throughout the history. Willie Soon, a professor at the Harvard Smithsonian
Center for Astrophysics, confirmed that from 800 to 1300 A.D. the average temperatures of the
world were 2 to 4 degrees or more higher than that of the 20th century, which is referred to as the
Medieval Warm Period (Anderson, par.16). This warming trend was detected in many other
parts of the world at that time, and the history proves that it brought wealth rather than disaster.
During this period, Europe flourished and was awoken by Renaissance culture. Olives grew in
13th century Germany, where St. Albert the Great also noted abundant fig and pomegranate
groves in Cologne and the Rhine valley places too cold for those crops today (16). Following the
Medieval Warm Period, the temperature plummeted 3 to 5 degrees, which is 2 degrees colder
than our climate today, lasting until 1900. Since 1900, the world has warmed up about 1 degree
(18). One of the other natural causes is the activities of volcanoes. Volcanoes release a huge amount
of sulfuric acid, which is believed to contribute to global warming.
Then what can be

The Importance Of A Balanced Fitness Program
Well rounded fitness
Just as it is important to eat a balanced diet and lead a balanced life, it is also important to keep to
a balanced fitness program. Candice Livingston, a ACE Certified Fitness Instructor, teaches us how
to evaluate our fitness program and how to ensure we use a well rounded program.
Keeping our balance
We have all been taught the importance of keeping balance in our lives. You should not focus on
work so much that you neglect your family; you should not worry so much about planning your
parent s anniversary party that you forget your husband s birthday.
This balance of everyday life is just as important in a fitness program. You cannot reach your fitness
goals if you forget or neglect any of the important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Start with a light weight and as you get stronger, increase either the amount of weight or the
numbers of reps. Make sure you recognize the need to work every major muscle group, and start
with the larger muscle of each group. For example, when you work your arms, work your biceps
and then move on to the triceps. You may have a natural tendency to hold your breath on the
contraction when strength training, so make a conscious effort to exhale on the contraction and
inhale on the release.
How often you perform your weight training depends on your fitness plan. If you work all your
muscle groups during the same training session, you only need to weight train two or three
times a week. If you only work certain muscle groups on certain days, you may need to workout
four or more days to work each muscle group at least twice a week. Whichever plan you follow,
remember not to work the same muscle groups two days in a row. Always allow a day of rest in
between.
Cardiovascular training
Cardiovascular activity has many benefits. Just a few are a faster metabolism, lower risk of heart
disease, less body fat and a stronger heart and lungs. You will also have more endurance which is
helpful in day to day living.
Cardiovascular activities are often equated with aerobic activity. The main thing to remember when
incorporating cardiovascular training into

The Role Of Traditional And Gestational Surrogacy
Surrogates are defined as a women who gestates a fetus for others, usually for a couple or another
woman. (Vaughn, 398) Surrogates have a few types of surrogacy, which are traditional and
gestational surrogacy. Traditional surrogacy is defined as the sperm from either the couple s male
partner or a donor is used to artificially inseminate the surrogate (the surrogate mother ). (Vaughn,
398) Then there is Gestational surrogacy, which is defined as the surrogate receives a transferred
embryo created through IVF using the sperm and egg of others (the contracting couple of donors).
Because the gestational (also called the gestational carrier) does not contribute her own egg, she has
no genetic connection to the baby. (Vaughn, 398) In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Commodity comes into play with surrogacy because commodities are valuable because they are
able to provide enjoyment for the couple and one is able to put a price tag on them. In terms with
surrogacy, the surrogate mother is putting a price tag on her child and receives money for it for the
family that will be looking after the surrogate mother s child. That child will provide a sense of
happiness and turning that couple into a family. Vaughn states, For in this practice the natural
mother deliberately conceives a child with the intention of giving it up for material advantage.
Her renunciations of parental responsibilities is not done for the child s sake, nor for the sake of
fulfilling an interest she shares with the child, but typically for her own sake (and possibly, if
altruism is a motive, for the intended parents sakes). She and the couple who pay her to give up
her parental rights over her child thus treat her rights as a kind of property right. They thereby
treat the child itself as a kind of commodity, which may be properly bought and sold. (Vaughn, 473
474) This quote is evident because parents seem to forget that children should always come first.
Unfortunately with commodity, a commodity has a lot to do with surrogacy. With surrogacy, this is
where children have price tags and that is why commodity exists in surrogacy.
Secondly, a surrogate mother provides a valued service

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Membrane Distillation
Chapter One
Introduction
1.1 Introduction
The demand of clean water has always been a major universal concern and this issue is becoming
more urgent with the expectation of water deficiency to an alarming rate by the year 2025. Hence,
there are needs a new technologies for desalination and wastewater treatments, to meet the
requirement water demands with credible and affordable water sources. [Teoh and Chung, 2009] (1)
Desalination is a process in which saline water is separated into two parts using different forms of
energy. One that has a low con centration of dissolved salts (fresh water), and the other which has a
much higher concentration of dissolved salts than the original feed water (brine concentrate).[

1.3 The advantages and disadvantages of membrane distillation
The membrane distillation process offers some benefits compared to other separation processes [
Pangarkar et al., 2011, Alcheikhhamdon et al., 2015](4):
1.Operating at lower temperature than the boiling point of feed solution.
2.Can be performed at lower operating pressure compared to pressure driven separation processes,
resulting in reduced costs for the process and membrane.
3.Reduced vapor spaces.
4.Unlimited by high osmotic pressure and fouling.
5.Permits very high separation factor of non volatile Solute.
6.Producing very high purity water.
7.Can use any form of low grade waste heat or coupled with solar energy systems which makes it
attractive for production of drinkable water from brackish water.
8.Minimization of corrosion troubles that could occur due to interactions between process solutions
and membranes.
9.Probability of combining membrane processes with other separation process (hybrid system).
10.Easy scale up with no requirements of additives.
The main disadvantage of MD process is [Teoh and Chung, 2009, Alcheikhhamdon et al.,

terrorism has something to do with fear and agitation. With innumerable technological

actors contribute to terrorism and how norms shape the behavior of the actors.
Terrorism is an objective reality and a subjective interpretation (Karaffa 2012: 3). Via this quote, we

Why Is The Us Constitution Important
The U.S. Constitution is the document of the principles and system of the United States
government. It covers the goals of the new government, the system and purpose of each branch,
how the states will work, how to amend the constitution, the supremacy of the national government,
and the process of ratification. The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of America, that must be
followed by everyone. The Constitution of the United States was established at the 1787
Constitutional Convention and signed in 1787. The Constitution is the structure of America, it
tells us how everything will work in this nation of ours. Without the Constitution, there would not
be any specified rules of how this country is set up and how it works. The Constitution makes us
who we are today, it establishes our system of government, our rules of what we can and can t do,
what the government can do for the people, and how everything in America is set up. On June 18,
1812, the United States declared war on the British. This action was caused by many reasons. One
incident was in 1807, on the Virginia coast, when the British H.M.S. Leopard s captain, Salusbury
Humphreys, demanded that deserters on the U.S.S. Chesapeake were to be turned over. When the
U.S.S. Chesapeake s master commandant, Charles Gordon, refused, the Leopard violated

Media Analysis on Miley Cyrus s Wrecking Ball Music Video
In a nutshell, feminist scholars claims that the objectification of women is when women is
reduced to instruments of sexual pleasure for men which primarily involves disregarding women
s personal and intellectual abilities and capabilities. The examples of objectifying women that has
been cited by the feminists include depictions of women in advertising and media. This, however,
can be traced back in 1950 s, when women were treated as sexual object in the narrative cinema.
Today, the objectification of women has been aggravated by the nudity concept in music videos,
which has also becoming part of the pop culture amongst the celebrities in 20th century. The essay
aims to explore the reading of the text within Miley Cyrus s provocative Wrecking Ball music

describes his actions as, ...his sense of inferiority of its being a degradation of the family
obstacles. Darcy proclaims his love for Elizabeth and does not allow her to forget her inferior
ranking within society. He seems to have a personal conflict within himself, he does not want to
love her but he is unable to not love her. Elizabeth does not take this proposal too seriously
because she believes she could never love a man that does not care for her family. She can see
how his vanity is not allowing him to be kind towards the woman he claims to love. Elizabeth
describes Darcy in this situation as, ...he was listening...wholly unmoved with remorse.
Elizabeth knew he was listening but could not see an ounce of regret or forgiveness for his
hurtful actions towards both her sister Jane and his friend Bingley. Darcy s behavior
demonstrates to Elizabeth that he is a man that she could not and shall not love because he is
willfully blinded by his pride. Darcy cannot move beyond his pride and vanity to see the pain he
has caused and how this is stopping Elizabeth from falling in love with him. He clearly told her
about how he meddled between Jane and Bingley by saying, I have no wishes of denying that I
did everything in my power to separate my friend from your sister, or that I rejoice in my

This quote pretty much means that physical, emotional and intellectual growth all go hand in hand
and one nor the other is more important. Each type of growth needs the other in order to produce a
healthy growing child.
Brain development and activity is a very important part of early learning. Preschools and early
learning centers should know this and center their direction on the brains ability to develop. At
birth, the infant s brain has 100 billion nerve cells, or neurons will grow and connect with other
neurons in systems that control various functions like seeing, hearing, moving, and expressing
emotion. These systems, activated by repeated experiences, provide the foundation for the brain s
organization and functioning throughout life. The absence of appropriate activation results in the

Compare And Contrast Plymouth And Jamestown
Long before the Founding Fathers, European countries built settlements in the wilderness of the
New World. During the 1600 s, English settlers founded Plymouth and Jamestown along the Eastern
Coast of North America. Puritans established Plymouth to escape the Catholic Church of England.
The Virginia Company established Jamestown in search of fortune. Both settlements managed
unavoidable contact with the natives. Although both Plymouth and Jamestown s interactions with
Native Americans included early encounters, diplomatic intermediaries, and peace treaties,
Jamestown s approach differed from by displaying less aggression. While both settlements had early
encounters with Native Americans, they demonstrated different levels of aggression. Early... Show

Jamestown colonists signed the Treaty of Chickahominy in 1614, which guaranteed that Native
Americans would pay an annual tribute of corn to Jamestown ( Jamestown and the Indians: The
First Decade. ). Jamestown depended on the tribute because much of their agriculture focused on
the cash crop, tobacco ( Jamestown and the Indians: The First Decade. ). In 1616,
Openchancanough ordered the natives to withhold their annual payment ( Jamestown and the
Indians: The First Decade. ). When Natives claimed the tribute had already been payed, the
English opened fire killing between 20 and 40 Natives ( Indian Wars List and Timeline. ).
Jamestown s demands again ended in a blood bath. In contrast, John Carver of Plymouth and
Massasoit signed a peace treaty which guaranteed a true allegiance ( The Colonies | Plymouth. ).
The treaty assured mutual protection from harm, respect for property rights, and assistance in time
of war ( The Colonies | Plymouth. ). It remained in affect from April 1, 1621 until the King Phillip
War in 1675 ( Indian Wars List and Timeline ). While both settlements sought treaties, Jamestown
used aggression to advance themselves and Plymouth used negotiation develop a peaceful

Mongol Battle Tactics
The Mongols were a ruthless group of nomads who spent their time spreading fear into the people
of Asia and Europe during the post classical age, around 1200 1400 C.E. The conquered the largest
land empire of all time prior to themselves and possessed one the most devastating armies ever to
set foot on the Earth. They spent their time under their most well known leader, Genghis Khan,
attacking and expanding their massive empire that many are familiar with today. The Mongols,
throughout their relatively short two hundred years in power, built an astronomically large empire,
in this short amount of time due to their intellect, strategy, and technology as well as the brute force
of their army. To start, the Mongols massive army was successful in capturing many lands due to

This allows the Mongols to gain leverage and possibly, if done well enough, gave the Mongols the
attack they needed to secure victory against the opposing forces. The total aspects of these Mongol
battle tactics stemmed from brute force and psychological warfare. By having these tools the
Mongols spent their time before invasion spying on their enemies, thus finding the best way to
defeat them. The purpose of this article was to explain to other Mongols, as passed through oral
tradition, of their battle tactics, to either be used again, or even to encourage the people of the
empire that they were the greatest. This shows the Mongols supreme ability to outwit their
opponents and with that, defeat many people, with great speed, better than anyone prior to them
throughout the like of Classical China, Ancient Greece and Rome, and the Byzantine Empire,
whom, all in their own works, successfully took over their surrounding lands with immense power
as well, but nothing compared to that of the Mongols. Document three shows an article from Marco

The Illuminati And Conspiracy Theory
Are you the kind of person who likes to listen to a good conspiracy theory? Some people do not
like them; conspiracy theories are intriguing for others. They like to explore all of the possibilities
that a conspiracy theory presents, in the same direction that they like to explore puzzles or mystery
novels. Some conspiracy theories are ridiculous and learning about them becomes a form of
entertainment. Alternatively, you may find that a specific conspiracy is credible and then it makes
you think. It is interesting to study the theory, weigh the evidence, and come up with a conclusion.
It is interesting that today the name Illuminati is synonymous with conspiracy theory and it

The Illuminati history, activity in the French Revolution and early American, and what they are
doing in today s culture play a significant part in creating the conspiracy reputation.
First, history of the Illuminati starts out in the late 17th century, a cultural movement of
intellectuals called the Age of Enlightenment formed. Their purpose was to reform the society using
reason to challenge ideas grounded in tradition and faith and to attain knowledge through systematic
observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of
theories. It promotes scientific thoughts, skepticism, and intellectual exchange. The Enlightenment
was at the time a revolution in human sentiment. On May 1, 1776, a German philosopher and
former Jesuit, Johann Adam Weishaupt formed a secret societywithin the existing Masonic lodges
in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany known as the Order of Perfectibility that later changed to Order of
the Illuminati. Weishaupt created the Illuminati to oppose superstition, religious influence over
public life, and abuse of state power. The Bavarian Illuminati started out with just five members

Presidency as an institution Essay
The Presidency as an institution
Both the administration of Carter and Reagan were shaped by the Cold War in the aftermath of
Watergate. Watergate created cynicism of the government, which in turn made governing difficult
both intentionally as well as improvisational because the institution of the President was seen as
acting in the best interest of itself. President Jimmy Carter and President Ronald Reagan both had
their difficulties as President. Carter had terrible problems with economics as our country
underwent high unemployment as well as many other economic problems. Reagan was one of the
unfortunate Presidents that had to deal with assassination attempts. Both Presidents had great
accomplishments both foreign and domestic. Carter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He invited Sadat the Prime Minister of Egypt and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin to
meet with him at Camp David in an effort to reconcile the two nations. Carter helped secure an
agreement between the sides and won national as well as world wide praise for helping the sides
come together in peace.
This success was near forgotten when in 1979, a mob of Iranian students stormed the American
embassy in Tehran, taking ninety hostages. On top of this Muslim fundamentalists seized power in
Iran, cutting off oil supply to the United States. This only worsened economics in America, and
Carter was blamed for the economic problems
Page 3 of the United States. The economy dipped so much that inflation rose to an astronomical
figure of 18%. Inflation rates stuck around in double figures for most of the time during the end of
the Carter Presidency. High unemployment rates as well as high interest rates were put on the
back burner as Carter tried to solve the Iranian hostage crisis as well as the shortage of fuel, which
is one of the reasons why the economy spiraled downhill.
As far as improvisational, Carter struggled in dealing with the Iranian Hostage Crisis. No plan
was ever developed for the release of the hostages on a diplomatic level. This lead to a disaster of
sorts in rescue attempts. Carter ended up never resolving the crisis, and it didn t end

The Theme Of Slavery In Beloved By Toni Morrison
Sixty Million and More
Sixty million and more, is the inscription at the beginning of the novel Beloved written by Toni
Morrison. It referred to the number of slaves killed from the time of the Middle Passage. In naming
the number so starkly, not saying anything further about it, Morrison pays testament to the
horrendous crime of the slave trade and the genocide it engendered. Through this epigraph, the
author reminded her readers of the frightening history of the slaves. I will call them my people,

Margaret Garner s master treated Garner trigged her courage to escape. In this case, death was
also an escape for freedom. Margaret Garner killed her daughter to set her daughter free from the
slave catchers and from slavery. It was too painful for her to send her children back to slavery.
For a slave like Margaret Garner, having children was more a curse than a blessing. Female
slaves were treated as breeders. Children meant the masters would have more labor for their
plantations. It was also an advantage to own female slaves who were fertile. The life of
Margaret Garner did not end happily. She died of long sickness and in slavery. The incident of
Margaret Garner killing her daughter contributes the central story in Beloved .Nevertheless, by
writing the story of Margaret Garner, Toni Morrison reminds the readers that in slavery, terrible
events and impossible choices were really occurred. Beloved presents the case of Margaret
Garner and makes readers who have heard about it remember the event. Other readers who do not
know about the case will learn about what happened to Margaret Garner and the infanticide case
surrounding her daughter s death. The story of Margaret Garner was eventually to become the

Essay On No Exit
No Exit by Jean Paul Sartre is a play about three characters in hell. Joseph Garcin, Inez Serrano,
and Estelle Rigault committed a sin when they were alive on Earth. Now, they are stuck in hell
together in one room. Garcin, Inez, and Estelle don t know each other and meet for the first time
in the room. They are suspicious of each other as to why they were placed in the same room
together. They are not quick to reveal what sins they have committed on Earth and slowly reveal it
one by one. With each of them having different personalities, they clash and become the perfect
torturers for each other in hell.
Joseph Garcin used to be a journalist and ran a pacifist newspaper. Garcin s death was caused by
12 bullets fired at him. At first, he appeared to be a gentleman who doesn t want to cause trouble
to other people around him. Garcin gently says, I wish neither of you any harm, and I ve no
concern with you. (pdf, 11) He wanted to respect and be polite to the two other women in the room
with him. However, the revelation of his sin tells a different story to him. Garcin mistreated his

characters are never able to get what they want in hell and their hell became each other. None of
the characters are put through physical pain and only mental pain. Each character picks on each
other s weakness, greed, and self esteem. Garcin and Estelle experience bad faith as they need
someone to them who they are. Inez is the closest to existentialism as she looks at action over
opinion. None of the characters are able to get away from each other and are trapped to deal with

The second is the Yale s Art and Architecture Building, designed in 1958 by architect Paul
Rudolph. This building was an exploration of scale and space, bringing the urban and site
context to the forefront of the architect. Using light and dynamic texturing of the facades to
deliver a building that may have been before its time. Mies van der Rohe is one of the most
prominent figures in modernist architectural history, the man who popularised some of the most
influential phrases of the era, e.g. less is more , and strove to push his ideas and philosophies,
not just on what he thought a building should be, but of what he thought architecture itself was.
He changed the cityscape of America, showing the world a style that was simple and elegant,
with such a controlled palette of expressions that shone through in its geometric beauty. Before
him American cities were solid, clad in heavy masonry, thick set with shoulders as broad as
American footballers. After Mies they rose up elegantly, their still gleaming glass transparent.
They looked like bits of the ideal future, flawless in their geometry. (Hughes 2008) His goal was to
create a building that was timeless, that could last without any imposing function. Stripping back
the building to its essentials of structure, craftsmanship and style, he created not just objects, but
symbols of everything Meis stood for in design If buildings may be judged as embodiments of a
viable system of ideas, the buildings of

Socio Economic Status And Health
Introduction Social stratification is one of the tenets of sociological inquiry, and the association
between socio economic status and health could be viewed as a classical problem in medical
sociology that dates back the mid 19th century works of Friedrich Engels, Rudolf Wirchow and
Salvador Allende. These scholars writing during the early years of capitalism (Salvador Allende
is an exception as to this trend as he studied the social origins of illness in the later times and a
different geographical context) noted that the structures of oppression and features of urban life
were major contributors to the spread of infectious diseases (Waitzkin 2005). Sensitivity to
social origins of illness were pushed aside during much of the first half of the 20th century,
which marked the hegemony of the biomedical models of disease etiology, yet the issue of socio
economic inequalities in health re emerged in the 1960s after the publication of the Black Report
in England and the book entitled Differential Mortality in the United States: A Study in
Socioeconomic Inequality by Evelyn Kitagawa and Philip Hauser in the United States. The Black
Report project was commission by the Labor government of the 1970s and its goal was to classify
the British population into 6 social classes based on the occupation of the household head to in
order to assess the evidence of inequalities in health. The results suggested that the risk of mortality
in the lowest class was twice as high relative to the

Data Analysis And Interpretation Of The Data Essay
Data Analysis and Interpretation
The objective of this chapter is to describe the procedures used in the analysis of the data and
present the main findings. It also presents the different tests performed to help choose the
appropriate model for the study. The chapter concludes by providing thorough statistical
interpretation of the findings.
The research data was analyzed using a statistical software called STATA. Before running the
data for the regression analysis, panel unit root test was performed to see if data is stationary over
time so that it can be used in estimating the variables in question. The value of the variables in the
model throughout the research period is not constant; that means, there are some periods where
there are spikes. These periods of ups and downs in value of economic variables are called shock in
economic jargon. The notion behind testing for stationarity is to identify whether the effect of such
shocks is permanent or transitory. If the effect of such shocks is temporary, the subsequent values
of the variables will return to their long term equilibrium suggesting that the data is stable even
with the presence of shocks.
4.1. Presentation and Interpretation of research findings
Table 4.1 presents the panel unit root test results. There are two groups of hypotheses that are
involved here. In the first four methods, the null hypothesis is: there is panel unit root and the
alternative hypothesis is: there is no panel unit root and the decision

  • 2. Teaching Equivalence in Fractions with Unlike Denominators... Once students get to the fourth grade, learning equivalence in fractions with unlike denominators is something that they can look forward to...or not look forward to. It can be a very tough lesson and something that is hard for the children to understand. They need to have a simple understanding of fractions already. They need to know what they are and how they add up together. Meaning that they need to understand that fractions are a part of a whole...a fractionof something, and that if the fractions are equal they can add up to create a whole. The easiest way to describe this and review it is with a circle representing a pie. Each slice comes from the pie and all put together its a whole. Also the stronger the students is with their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next the teacher would show them an unequivalent fraction by having them compare 1/2 and 1/3 in their circle. They look close...but they arent! From here a worksheet would be given out with some fractions for the children to identify their equal. They would work in partner groups and use their pie pieces to research and experiment and find the answer. This will give the students a good chance to work together and investigate with hands on pieces and think through the questions. All of the previous work the students have done with the manipulatives and the visual aids should have given them a good foundation for writing fractions and seeing how they are represented with numbers and not just physical parts or fractions of a whole. There is a pattern between equivalent fractions that is based on counting by multiples. It can also be explained on knowing and using basic multiplication tables. To find an equivalent fraction is basic multiplication of both the numerator and the denominator by a number that is more than one or zero. Two is a very good base, low number to start with. Next is to explain to the students that with equivalent fraction problems you are looking for that missing number, that missing part that makes it complete. For example, 2/5 is equal to 4/? The teacher explains that in order to solve for the missing, you will have to determine 3 times (what) equals 6. Or divide 3 into 6. From ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What Caused The Tiananmen Square Massacre Though termed the Tiananmen Square Massacre, this incident actually took place throughout China. What started out as a peaceful protest calling for political and economic reforms, soon turned to bloodshed. (Hu 2015)This greatly impacted China s international relationships. Contact between China and Western nations declined, official visits were suspended. Western powers imposed arms embargoes and economic sanctions, preventing the sale of military equipment, and approval of loans. (The National Bureau of Asian Research) Understanding the causes of the Tiananmen Square Massacre, and its effects on China s international relationships, aids in better understanding the nuances of this infamous incident. Many factors such as, growing liberalization, economic disparities, and inflations. led to the protests. During Mao Ze Dong s leadership, the Chinese government collectivized industries and agriculture. After his death, his successor Deng Xiao Ping implemented the Gai Ge Kai Fang policy, de collectivizing industries and agriculture. (Huenemann 2017) This policy also allowed citizens greater freedom. Some academics even received encouragement from the government to take an active political stance. (The Editors of EncyclopГ¦dia Britannica) Following the privatization of agriculture and industries, China experienced great economic growth. Unfortunately, this also caused the rate of corruption, and economic disparities to surge. China also experienced price inflations as it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Undisclosed Desires for Nellie Washington It wasn t too hot or too cold, it was the perfect weather. I lifted my hands over my head and took a deep breath. The grass was slightly moist from the rain last night. I stepped out into the bright sunlight, urging my muscles to wake up. Fall was literally around the corner and I was trying to enjoy the last few days of summer before the leaves started turning brown and everyone brought out the pumpkins and turkeys. I glanced at my watch and read the time. I had thirty minutes before school and I hadn t done anything to get ready. I hadn t even brushed my teeth yet or made my bed. I woke up, rubbed my eyes and came out onto the front porch. I had a valid excuse for waking up and going outside though, I wanted to catch her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Car troubles? I d say just to break the ice. Nellie would look at me and smile. You re an angel, Ian! She would say in delight or something like that. And in my fantasy, she d have on a skirt that showed off her killer legs. No, I was not some pervert. I just thought Nellie Washington would look sexy in a skirt. Since I had never seen her in one, I couldn t really picture her as well as I wanted to. But this was not fantasy, it was reality and in reality Nellie was wearing grey skinny jeans and a grey t shirt with some weird blue police box on it. It was the kind of shirt you saw on comic book nerds. As this is reality, and Nellie is a very responsible girl for her age, her car came to life and I was instantly disappointed. She pulled out of her garage and onto the empty street after she look both ways five times. I watched as she zoomed off down the road and headed over to the mailbox. There was nothing inside for me. Most of it was for my dad, a couple were for my mom and there was one for Matt, my younger twin brother. I hoped he hadn t gotten the last bit of Nutella. Matt was sitting at the kitchen table shoveling spoonfuls of cereal, muffins and cups of orange juice in his mouth when I walked in. Damn. He muttered as a bit of orange juice fell on him. • 5. Characteristics Of Giles Corey In The Crucible Is it possible for somebody to go to court thirty three times and win all those times? For Giles Corey in The Crucible. Giles Corey has been to court that amount of times and has won all those times. Giles Corey is married to Martha and lives in Salem. Sadly, in The Crucible Giles gets arrested for contempt of court and is pressed to death for not giving a yes or no answer to being convicted of witchcraft. Giles Corey and I share the traits sarcastic, determined, and loyal. Giles Corey and I have sarcastic as a common trait. In The Crucible, Giles Corey is known for his sarcastic humor using one liners during the play. This kind of humor is also mine. For example in Act I, Giles says Let s get your lumber home, John. I feel a sudden will to work coming on. when Thomas Putnam was arguing with John Proctor over land. I also go this to my friends when they argue. Just like Giles Corey, I have comments for almost everything. Sometimes I say them out loud to friends or just think of them in class to myself. In their interview with the Civil Rights History Project, folksingers Guy and Candie Carawan sing the songs Tree of Life, Eyes on the Prize, and We Shall Overcome. The Carawans worked at the Highlander Folk School in Tennessee, where activists from around the country came to be trained in nonviolent philosophy and learned the songs of the movement. She explains, There were songs for every mood. You know, there were the very jubilant songs. There were the very sad songs when someone was killed. You know, there were the songs you used at parties. Jones explains, And we got louder and louder with singing that verse, until one of the policemen came and he said to me, If you have to sing, and he was actually shaking, do you have to sing so loud? And I could not believe it. Here these people had all the guns, the billy clubs, the power, we thought. And he was asking me, with a shake, if I would not sing so loud. • 7. Forehead In The Sky Classification At 29,035 feet( National Geographic) , Mount Everest is the top of the world. Split in half by the Nepalese and Chinese border this is just one of the enormous mountains in the mountain range named the Himalayas. This spectacle of nature doesn t come without it s risks though, about 240 people have died on the mountain. The locals call Everest Sagarmatha, meaning Forehead in the Sky , and it was first climbed in 1953. Sir Edmund Percival Hillary, a New Zealand veteran, and Tenzing Norgay, a Nepalese sherpa, were the first to summit Sagarmatha. Hillary and Tenzing took seven weeks to reach the summit on May 29, 1953. Since then about 4,000 climbers have attempted the deadly climb. But Hillary was the very first to do it. Many people think climbing a mountain is an almost vertical climb all the way up. But that is not the case, there are many smaller climbs that go both up and down. The climb is very demanding on the body. You must be in top shape if you expect to summit the mountain. To get all the way up you need oxygen tanks, because the air is too thin once you get near the top. There are many camps up the mountain for climbers to rest for the night or day. But you must acclimatize, or let your body get used to the thin air (Mount Everest.Net). A common method is to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. The Yellow Wallpaper, By Charlotte Perkins Gilman And A... Unaccustomed The short stories, The Yellow Wallpaper, written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and A Rose for Emily, written by William Faulkner, have a lot in common regarding the main characters. Each narrative focuses on the lifestyle and behavior of a bizarre woman who has been kept away for a certain period of time. One could argue that these women were not initially deranged, though something must have occurred to send them on such a downward spiral. The main characters in each account, Jane and Miss Emily, endure situations in their lives which prove to be crucial in the development of their mental illness, and being isolated gradually causes their illness to escalate. Jane and Miss Emily both face a monumental change in their lives, which results in the conclusion that mental illness is the cause of their strange behavior. The women face profoundly different catastrophes; however, each occurrence involves their families. In Charlotte Perkins Gilmans The Yellow Wallpaper , during an exchange between John and Jane, John explains, I beg of you, for my sake and for our child s sake, as well as for your own, that you will never for one instant let that idea enter your mind! (Gilman 137). Jane gives birth to a little baby boy, which is when her life takes a turn for the worse. Jane begins showing unusual, if not utterly insane, behavior, as well as depression and anxiety, which is a result of her post partum depression. In William Faulkner s, A Rose for Emily, he ... • 13. Rock N Roll Counterculture Rock n roll and punk have often been pitted against each other to determine which is the superior genre of music. Persons of the respective parties can be found in groups debating whether or not punk or rock n roll is the superior genre; most subscribers to these genres become quick masters of all things punk or rock n roll. Both will sit around with various alcoholic beverages strewn about, naming bands in quick succession and ticking them off on their fingers as if doing so adds some sort of validity to their argument. To survive in such a paramount argument one must learn the lingo of each subculture, including but not limited to the history, surrounding culture and style, and the content of a live show and a band s previous records.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is argued over whether rock n roll is a counterculture or not because it was widely popular amongst children and adults alike at it s prime and ultimately did not present any radically different ideas, but what can t be argued is rock n roll s seniority and perfected tone. While there is much to be said about the bands that proudly wear the label punk or rock n roll as a button on their acid washed jean vests, something has to be said for the history and subculture that defines each respective genre. Punk refutes social attitudes that have been perpetuated through willful ignorance of human nature, and rock n roll is just a trend that people followed because of it s attractive ideal. If it were not for punk, voices as strong and influential as Billie Joe Armstrong or Sid Vicious would never had made an impact on millions of angry citizens who were surfeited of systematic oppression and capitalistic ideals. Counterculture has always been political and driven by the underground, whether it be the Lolita girls of Japan, the Kontrkul tura movement in Russia, the Nambassa lifestyle in New Zealand, or the Basque Radical Rock movement in Spain, but nothing quite compares to the raw grit and blood that goes into being punk, the ultimately universal counterculture. At it s heart punk is anti society and anti normalcy. Because human nature yearns for acceptance, and punk objects such assimilation, it is the only true ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Things They Carried Tim O Brien does a fantastic job of blurring the lines of what is true and what is fiction in The Things They Carried. In fact, he often points out that he has made entire stories up, after the fact. He defends his decisions by proposing that what he has done is, in fact, not lie, but rather tell a story truth. He argues that his reason for doing this is to bring the story to life more than it could live through the happening truth. I want you to feel what I felt. I want you to know why story truth is truer sometimes than happening truth (O Brien, 183). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Story telling truth, as has been defined to an extent, isn t completely real. Most frequently, it is modeled after happening truth, where it re shapes the story. Through the addition of details to the happening truth, the story becomes more believable. Oftentimes, great morals come from story truths where they were not previously evident in happening truths. One vivid example of this would be the scene where Curt Lemon is killed. Following this is the baby water buffalo scene (O Brien, 74). (O Brien, 80 81). The details bring the story truth to life, as the reader can picture what is going on more clearly through a sort of dream. Story truths bring events to life through the imagination. The thing about a story is that you dream it as you tell it, hoping that others might then dream along with you, and in this way memory and imagination and language combine to make spirits in the head. There is an illusion of aliveness (O Brien, 218). Oftentimes, heroic instances are added to give a story morals, where they may not have been visible to begin with. Take, for example, the scene where O Brien describes the soldiers who come upon a killer grenade. One of the soldiers jumped out and attempted to take the blast to save the rest of the soldiers. • 16. Three Ethical Theories Of Ageism Robert Butler a physician, gerontologist, psychiatrist, and Pulitzer Prize winning author, who was the first director of the National Institute on Aging described ageism as [a] process of systematic stereotyping or discrimination against people because they are old, just as racism and sexism accomplish with skin color and gender. Ageismallows the younger generations to see older people as different than themselves; thus they subtly cease to identify with their elders as human beings. Butler saw ageism manifested in a wide range of phenomena on both individual and institutional levels stereotypes and myths, outright disdain and dislike, simple avoidance of contact, and discriminatory practices in housing, employment, and services of all kinds. In today s society people view seniors as less valuable. They are perceived as frail and undesirable because of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Feminist Legal Theory focuses on women who are of mature age being given less rights and opportunities and are also being disregarded in the discourse. It has been pointed out by feminist writers that age can be an organizing principle of power, just as gender, race, class, and sexual orientation are. In context of how systems maintain some arrangements but also may substitute inequalities in later life, other authors have begun to contemplate age and gender lenses. For example as a group, married women and men tend to be better off in terms of their economic/material, health and social resources than those who are not married. Similarly, younger age associates of married women have a tendency to be better off than older age associates of married women. Many qualities however though play into obtaining this presence. A lot of Europeans that came to the new world did not possess these many qualities to understand the Indians. As a Jesuit myself who is a part of the New FrancemissionI do know on a first hand basis what it takes to be a good missionary. As a part of the New France mission I have experienced various encounters with several different Indian nations. I do admit that these native people are very down to earth and connected with each other very well. The purpose of are mission to New France was to spread the word of God and our Catholic faith to the natives and convert them. This process is much easier said than it is to actually be done. For one just think about trying to first communicate with a person who speaks a different language, has no idea who you are, and where you came from. To sum it up basically trying to talk with an alien from another planet in the skies. This leads me to saying that communication and patience are the top two qualities that we missionaries have to have to even start to succeed with our mission. According to Funk Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, Cerebral Palsy is a broad term for various nonprogressive disorders of motor function in people, resulting from brain damage around the time of birth. Damage to the brain could occur before, during, or shortly after birth ( Cerebral ). Since the damage is done during the brain s formation, and occurs in the part of the brain that controls motor and muscle functions, people with CP might have problems with motor skills, muscle tone, muscle weakness, reflexes, balance, excessive drooling, difficulties swallowing or speaking, shaking, tremors, and ... CP may not be noticeable at birth. Children with CP develop predictable developmental milestones slowly because of their motor impairments, and these delays in reaching milestones are usually the first symptoms (Gale Enc). Doctors diagnose CP by checking the infant s motor skills, looking for developmental delays, and considering the child s medical history. Many Doctors use the Early Motor Pattern Profile (EMPP) to help in their evaluations. The EMPP indicates variations in muscle tone, reflexes, and movement and is used to identify children during the first year of life who are at risk for the development of CP. The EMPP can be done during a routine office visit. Observation and minimal handling can detect abnormal motor patterns, making it quick and inexpensive. EMPP is the beginning of evaluation and intervention ( Early 692). CP is a neurological disorder affecting motor control. It is the most common physical disability in childhood. It is a lifelong condition that varies from person to person. It can be very mild or extremely severe. There is no known cure, and the cause is not completely understood. From an utterly young age, most Mexican girls are endangered to take the household responsibilities as their core duty. Once they reach adolescence, they imperiled to think about marriage as the unrivaled way for them to leave their parent s support. I argue that the Mexican culture through the medium of tradition and media are assembling a society in which woman, from the moment they are born, bear a life of parental and marital submission. Moreover, in the Woman Hollering Creek, Cisneros exposes the story of Cleofilas Hernandez. Cisneros unveils parental submission in Cleofilas life on the first page. Cisneros writes, The day Don Serafin gave Juan Pedro Martinez Sanchez permission to take Cleofilas Enriqueta DeLeon Hernandez as his bride... (Cisneros 43). This is significant because it emphasizes the power Don Serafin has over Cleofilas life, he is in power to directly decide whom she is going to marry by rejecting or accepting individual. Although, many would argue that rather giving Serafin Cleofilas is just following the tradition of asking the parents. Willie Soon, a professor at the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, confirmed that from 800 to 1300 A.D. the average temperatures of the world were 2 to 4 degrees or more higher than that of the 20th century, which is referred to as the Medieval Warm Period (Anderson, par.16). That child will provide a sense of happiness and turning that couple into a family. Vaughn states, For in this practice the natural mother deliberately conceives a child with the intention of giving it up for material advantage. Her renunciations of parental responsibilities is not done for the child s sake, nor for the sake of fulfilling an interest she shares with the child, but typically for her own sake (and possibly, if altruism is a motive, for the intended parents sakes). She and the couple who pay her to give up her parental rights over her child thus treat her rights as a kind of property right. They thereby treat the child itself as a kind of commodity, which may be properly bought and sold. • 35. Media Analysis On Miley Cyrus s Wrecking Ball Music Video Media Analysis on Miley Cyrus s Wrecking Ball Music Video In a nutshell, feminist scholars claims that the objectification of women is when women is reduced to instruments of sexual pleasure for men which primarily involves disregarding women s personal and intellectual abilities and capabilities. The examples of objectifying women that has been cited by the feminists include depictions of women in advertising and media. This, however, can be traced back in 1950 s, when women were treated as sexual object in the narrative cinema. Today, the objectification of women has been aggravated by the nudity concept in music videos, which has also becoming part of the pop culture amongst the celebrities in 20th century. The essay aims to explore the reading of the text within Miley Cyrus s provocative Wrecking Ball music video, using Male Gaze theory, and will include some major arguments from the feminists relating to the issue. Without a doubt, the music video acts as the best media product to analyse these theories, as not only that it has been cited in many feminism arguments, it also signifies Miley s controversial and shocking 360 degrees transformation. Elizabeth describes his actions as, ...his sense of inferiority of its being a degradation of the family obstacles. Darcy proclaims his love for Elizabeth and does not allow her to forget her inferior ranking within society. He seems to have a personal conflict within himself, he does not want to love her but he is unable to not love her. Elizabeth does not take this proposal too seriously because she believes she could never love a man that does not care for her family. She can see how his vanity is not allowing him to be kind towards the woman he claims to love. Elizabeth describes Darcy in this situation as, ...he was listening...wholly unmoved with remorse. Elizabeth knew he was listening but could not see an ounce of regret or forgiveness for his hurtful actions towards both her sister Jane and his friend Bingley. Darcy s behavior demonstrates to Elizabeth that he is a man that she could not and shall not love because he is willfully blinded by his pride. Darcy cannot move beyond his pride and vanity to see the pain he has caused and how this is stopping Elizabeth from falling in love with him. He clearly told her about how he meddled between Jane and Bingley by saying, I have no wishes of denying that I did everything in my power to separate my friend from your sister, or that I rejoice in my success, he does admit he acted wrong but there is no asking for forgiveness and that shows Elizabeth the kind of man he is. Each type of growth needs the other in order to produce a healthy growing child. Brain development and activity is a very important part of early learning. Preschools and early learning centers should know this and center their direction on the brains ability to develop. At birth, the infant s brain has 100 billion nerve cells, or neurons will grow and connect with other neurons in systems that control various functions like seeing, hearing, moving, and expressing emotion. These systems, activated by repeated experiences, provide the foundation for the brain s organization and functioning throughout life. The absence of appropriate activation results in the lack of development of the disappearance of these connections (Child s brain development, 2002). Relationships with other people early in life are the major source of development of the emotional and social parts of the brain (Principals of brain development, 2002). Mies van der Rohe is one of the most prominent figures in modernist architectural history, the man who popularised some of the most influential phrases of the era, e.g. less is more , and strove to push his ideas and philosophies, not just on what he thought a building should be, but of what he thought architecture itself was. He changed the cityscape of America, showing the world a style that was simple and elegant, with such a controlled palette of expressions that shone through in its geometric beauty. Before him American cities were solid, clad in heavy masonry, thick set with shoulders as broad as American footballers. After Mies they rose up elegantly, their still gleaming glass transparent. They looked like bits of the ideal future, flawless in their geometry. (Hughes 2008) His goal was to create a building that was timeless, that could last without any imposing function. • 48. Socio Economic Status And Health Introduction Social stratification is one of the tenets of sociological inquiry, and the association between socio economic status and health could be viewed as a classical problem in medical sociology that dates back the mid 19th century works of Friedrich Engels, Rudolf Wirchow and Salvador Allende. These scholars writing during the early years of capitalism (Salvador Allende is an exception as to this trend as he studied the social origins of illness in the later times and a different geographical context) noted that the structures of oppression and features of urban life were major contributors to the spread of infectious diseases (Waitzkin 2005). Sensitivity to social origins of illness were pushed aside during much of the first half of the 20th century, which marked the hegemony of the biomedical models of disease etiology, yet the issue of socio economic inequalities in health re emerged in the 1960s after the publication of the Black Report in England and the book entitled Differential Mortality in the United States: A Study in Socioeconomic Inequality by Evelyn Kitagawa and Philip Hauser in the United States. The Black Report project was commission by the Labor government of the 1970s and its goal was to classify the British population into 6 social classes based on the occupation of the household head to in order to assess the evidence of inequalities in health. Data Analysis And Interpretation Of The Data Essay Data Analysis and Interpretation The objective of this chapter is to describe the procedures used in the analysis of the data and present the main findings. It also presents the different tests performed to help choose the appropriate model for the study. The chapter concludes by providing thorough statistical interpretation of the findings. The research data was analyzed using a statistical software called STATA. Before running the data for the regression analysis, panel unit root test was performed to see if data is stationary over time so that it can be used in estimating the variables in question. The value of the variables in the model throughout the research period is not constant; that means, there are some periods where there are spikes. These periods of ups and downs in value of economic variables are called shock in economic jargon. The notion behind testing for stationarity is to identify whether the effect of such shocks is permanent or transitory. If the effect of such shocks is temporary, the subsequent values of the variables will return to their long term equilibrium suggesting that the data is stable even with the presence of shocks. 4.1. Presentation and Interpretation of research findings Table 4.1 presents the panel unit root test results. There are two groups of hypotheses that are involved here. In the first four methods, the null hypothesis is: there is panel unit root and the alternative hypothesis is: there is no panel unit root and the decision ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
