2. Similarities Between Japanese Education And North American...
Comparison of the North American and Japanese Educational Systems
The comparison between Japanese and North American educational systems is often used. The
Japanese system, along with other Asian cultures, places importance on the group and the
interdependence of its members (Cole Cole, 2001, p. 541). The North American model, in
contrast, focuses on the ideals of individuality and independence (Cole Cole, 2001, p.541). This
contrast is due to a conflicting cultural/social structure and outlook of the world. Japanese look at
the development of self as doubled sided: the inner self and the social or public self (Hoffman,
2000, p.307). Within the Japanese education system, the teacher s goal is to develop and cultivate
both layers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This follows the cultural theme of interconnectedness in contrast to independence. This theme is the
backbone to the Japanese educational and cultural system.
In contrast, the North American education system stresses the ideals of individualism. The aim of
the North American system is to socialize the children to become independent individuals, who
have relationships with whom they choose (Cole Cole, 2001, p.541). This ideal of individualism
influences the way educators approach learning. Children are encouraged to strive and pursue
individual potential and needs (Hoffman, 2000, p.302). Children spend a lot of time pursuing
individual activities alone during class time. The classroom is teacher centered in terms of its
direction and authority. Whereas the Japanese teacher relies on the social structure and peers, North
American teachers have authority to direct the class (Hoffman, 2000, p.304). This adult control is
an external standard placed on the child (Hoffman, 2000, p.306). The Japanese teacher relies on the
inner standards within the child and their fellow classmates to control the child (Hoffman, 2000,
p.307). In situations, such as a child acting out in class, North American teachers assert authority
where as Japanese teacher s look to group pressure to conform and control the child.

In Chinese history they are known as the Five Overlords in the Spring and Autumn Period . In the
latter part of the Spring and Autumn period, two states, Wu and Yue became even more powerful
and contended for overall hegemony. Finally Yue was defeated, and submitted to Wu. However,
Gou Jian, the king of Yue, continuously galled by his defeat decided to seek revenge.
Simultaneously, he trained his army, and developed agriculture. Eventually, Yue State became
strong enough and defeated Wu. According to recorded history, during the Spring and Autumn
Period, there were over 480 wars, 52 vassal states were vanquished, and 36 kings were killed.
During the Spring and Autumn Period the imperial house, with priestly, ritualistic, and diplomatic
functions but with diminishing authority, slowly sank out of sight as the local nobles struggled
with one another for power. Survival required coalitions, both political and economic, as well as the
accumulation of productive wealth. To this end, many drainage operations, canals, dikes, reservoirs,

The book All the Light We Cannot See takes place in Europe, in three main locations: Hitler s
Germany, Paris, and the walled city of Saint Malo, Brittany from the mid 1930s to the roaring
and murderous times of World War Two. It focuses on the two main characters in the book: one,
an orphaned German soldier to be named Werner; and the other Marie Laure a blind Parisian
living with her father. How their stories will intertwine is quite a mystery. While Werner
struggles in the life of an orphan, he, along with his sister, discovers his true calling. Werner has a

Amusing Ourselves to Death Experiment
I never thought about what it would be like living without technology until I got assigned my
summer reading project, a twenty four hour electronic media fast. That meant absolutely no cell
phone, computer, radio, television, you couldn t even ride in a car! From the beginning I knew
this would be very challenging for me considering my cell phone is glued to me at the hip and I
can t sleep without the light from a television. I know, pathetic. When I first started I thoughtthis
would be so easy. I would breeze through this with no problem. Man was I wrong! I started at

Postman s argument that through technology we are amusing ourselves to death is also relevant to
the age of Internet. With the Internet we have many different sources available to get a lot of
information quickly. But, do we truly understand all the information? Postman thinks we take
things out of context and do not reason anymore. Also, look how entertaining the Internet can be.
YouTube has videos and other media. You can download music and movies. Social media is

6. Essay On Women s Rights In American Time
The Rights of Women in Shakespearian Time Verses Rights of Women Currently
Since Shakespearian time to the present, there has been a dramatic change in the expectations of
what women are supposed to do. In many different ways, women have started to be expected to
do quite a bit more. In terms of family management and overall authority within the family, as well
with expectations of what they are allowed to do outside the house. Since Shakespeare s time there
has been quite a few things concerning women s rights that have happened, in fact several hundred
years have passed, and a lot has changed in the world. For example, as it currently stands in the
United States of America, it is possible for a woman to become leader of our country, and several
others countries as well. Whereas in Shakespeare s time, Most countries were lead by a king, and
the thought of a woman being in charge of anything other than cooking and cleaning was
laughable. The only exception to this was in rare cases, the daughters and or wife of a noble or
person of royalty, who would sometimes be taught how to help manage the lands of the noble in
order to help whomever the daughter might marry. There are a few more examples of this in the
upcoming paragraph.

States Department of Labor s website women made up forty seven percent of the nation s
workforce as of 2010. As that statistic shows, women now make up nearly half of the workforce in
America. That appears to be and is a significant jump in the amount of women

Throughout the play, Thornton Wilder seems to suggest that everyday events make up a special
and beautiful life. The author includes multiple different scenes to represent the simplicity of life.
As the Stage Manager describes the death of Joe Crowell, the bright student headed to be engineer,
he implies the idea that one should acknowledge the small yet great things in life before it s too
late. The author also includes the death of Emily which questions how much humans understand of
life. This event lets readers take in the beautiful moments in their lives and recognize the small
things that make them happy. Wilder includes the small moment of Emily finding joy in the simple

Emily finds joy in the small things like how the moonlight s so won derful and so is the smell of
Mrs.Gibbs heliotrope (45). Emily appreciates the little things in life like the beautiful moonlight

can make life so much more special. Emily is chatting with her father and enjoys this time to
comment on the simple things of nature. This relates to life now since there are many things that
we do everyday that are simply beautiful. Since they are young, the children don t realize the
mundane action of going to school makes up their special lives. The children meet, down center
and head towards Main Street, then turn left (16) to go to school. The children are going about
their everyday lives but don t seem to realize that simple actions like this can make life so beautiful
and something to celebrate about. Wilder shows this common theme by having the two families go

8. Decision Making Skills For Arms Control And Trade
Decision making skills for arms control and trade cover the scientific discovery, ethical and
philosophical decisions and politics. The scientific discovery (history) of arms trade has been
around since the first crqeation of the cannon, but it has only been in the last century has the
world seen an explosion in arms deals. The best way to categorize the history and politics of arms
trade is during and after the Cold War, which began two years after World War II ended in 1945.
During the Cold War there was no global market for arms trade, countries strictly only dealt with
who they considered their allies. With the fall of nazi Germany it left two main superpowers for
supplying arms, the USA and Russia. The US solely dealt and supplied arms with countries like the
United Kingdom, France, Netherlands and Russia being a communist state at the time dealt with
countries that had an influencing communist party in power like Cuba. Both superpowers however
competed to influence destabilized countries in Africa, and in Latin America.
After the Cold War ended in the late 1980 s early 1990 s the world saw a globalization of arms
trade becoming an open market where the USA and Russia are able to deal with whatever country
is willing to buy. Some of the most sought out weapons after the Cold War were nuclear and
although there are only five countries are allowed to possess nuclear weapons, the US, United
Kingdom, France, Russia and China, they are stored in over a dozen countries.

From Bang to Brain Lachlan Hall
Let s go back in time, about eighty years from now. A young astronomer named Edwin Hubble had
contributed to a theory that would explain the origins of the universe. He discovered that atoms
were in everything, including his brain. This article is to discover how exactly did atoms from the
universe end up being in Hubble s brain? So let s find out how we got From Bang to Brain .
Let s start with the Big Bang Theory . In 1927 the big bang theory was proposed by Georges
Lemaitre. But was significantly created by our old friend Edwin Hubble. Edwin Hubble lived
from 1889 1953 and in this time he did great things such as contribute significantly to the creation
of the big bang theory and also was the developer of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cosmic background radiation is radiation from the early development of the universe. After the
big bang the universe was smaller and much hotter than it is now and was filled with a fog of
hydrogen plasma. Eventually the universe started expanding and became cooler. As it cooled
stable atoms started forming, leaving only CMB remained so it is a strong evidence that the Big
Bang Theory was correct. Scientist thought if the big bang actually happened then there would
have to be cosmic background radiation left over, so all they had to do is find evidence of this
and they did so this gave the big bang theory evidence to support their claim.
Another way to support the Big Bang Theory is to look at the stars. According to the Big Bang
Theory the universe is forever changing and expanding and looking up at the stars just proves
this. If you look up at the stars we only see the stars that their light has reached us meaning these
stars are only new, so if we don t so some stars the light hasn t reached us yet. As we know light
travels in light years which takes well years, so if we can t see their light it hasn t reached us so it

1. Dante Alighieri (1265 1321) was banished from Florence in 1302 and was a soldier in the battle
of Sienese and Campaldino.
2. There was a lot of political unrest during Dante s lifetime, as well as a horde of new poetical
and literary movements that arose. This was due to the Guelfi Party s split into two: those in
favor of the pope and those in favor of the emperor. In addition, the new poetical movement that
came about was called the Stilnovo , and was basically a style where poets would discuss their
feelings of love and theorize about love.
3. Dante s wife, Gemma Donati, does not have as large an influence on his work as Beatrice
Portinari, his first love. Many of Dante s poems in the Vita Nuova are based on his love for Beatrice
and the passion that he feels for her.
4. Dante held the occupations of a patrician in Florence, a poet and author in Florence, a soldier at
the battles of Sienese and Campaldino, a student at the convents of Santa Croce and Santa Maria

decided to write about the topic nutrition because, we were assigned to track our eating habits on

height, age and weight. Super Tracker taught me a valuable lesson about keeping portion sizes
in mind, and checking labels because just because the label says it has fiber or something, it
doesn t necessary mean it does; it can have more added sugars than fibers. Now, I know how
much calories I should take in everyday and what I need to improve on because I had lot of
nutrients, mineral and vitamins that was under the recommend amount that I needed. With this
Super Tracker website, it made me realize that I need to eat healthier, because I am at risk of
having lots of health problems in the future, if I continue to eat the way I do. Looking at my
report really made me realize that maybe because I was so low/over on mostly everything, that
therefore it is the cause of my daily headaches and why I feel weak and dizzy mostly every day
of the week. The report indicated that I was over on saturated fats, under my calorie intake, low
on dairy and fruit intake and many more. As I was doing my research, eating more fruits will
improve my sources of nutrients, including potassium, fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C and folate.
The nutrients in fruit are vital for health and maintenance for my body. The potassium in fruit
can reduce my risk of heart disease and stroke. Also, according to my dietary report, I am over
with my saturated fats, as I stated above. Eating too much total fat (especially saturated fat and
trans fat), cholesterol, or sodium may increase my risk of certain chronic diseases, such as heart
disease, some cancers, or high blood pressure. Therefore, because of how badly my report came
out, it was an eye opener. I want to find ways on how to improve my nutritionand maintain it and
what the better outcomes are for maintaining good nutrition. In order to improve my nutrition, I
will need to change my diet by taking small steps every day. My dietary nutrition report stated that

12. Essay about Fine Quality Baroque Music in the Era of...
Baroque music is the western music art style that was composed in the era of Renaissance, that is,
between 1600 and 1750. Music at any given period reflects tendencies, impulses and influences that
are found in art of other kinds of the same period. Therefore the name baroque also applied to the
architecture, literature and art in the same period. Baroquehas in the past and to some degree in the
present had the implications of abnormality, grotesqueness and absurdity. But in its applications to
musicin the Renaissance period the term baroque does not have connotations that are pejorative
because much of the music composed in this period is of high and fine quality (Swain, 7).

The performer however should be guided by some factors that help them know what instrument to
use where and what sound to get from what instrument (Donington, 131).
One, the performer should be able to distinguish indications that are scanty for the instruments that
the notations may be showing. In that all the instruments that the performer is using fit in the kind
of that they are playing. They should also look out for the effects of the musician that may need
working on for the actual performance (Donington, 131).
Two, as much as it is the responsibility of the performer to choose the instruments, looking up for
alternative instruments that are listed is important. That way, if there is an instrument that is
missing, the performer should always be able to get an alternative. This also suitable when the there
are many instruments needed, the alternative instruments can be used interchangeably (Donington,
131).
Three, the notion that instruments that are suitable are acceptable may not always work. A
performer should understand that every instrument is made for a specific use and should be the
only use it must be put to. That is, it would be impossible to use an instrument and try to make it
sound in a particular way. The distinctions were made in the baroque era as much as they do now
(Donington, 131). Every instrument in baroque music should be used to what it really is designed
to, this is to make sure that the sound of

Shamanism Today: Perennial Wisdom Healing Grace for Personal Planetary Evolution.
By Oscar Miro Quesada, M.A., Psy. ET.
Today s shaman leaves new footprints on paths of psychic awareness and spiritual wisdom that
are over thirty thousand years old. Shamanism is a millennial tradition of healing, power and
wisdom that sees all of life as interconnected and sacred. Material and spiritual worlds
interpenetrate one another, and the shaman s path lies in attaining a life of harmony with both. The
process of shamanic awakening is as vast as the universe itself. It excludes no one, and yet includes
only those willing to surrender a limited sense of self. One must live it to understand it.
In the shamanic world view, mind and body are inseparable. There is no distinction perceived
between physical, psychological, spiritual an social ills. Even life an death are not seen as
separate conditions. Healing in a native sense means making a person whole by restoring the health
of the body, mind, spirit and community. Tribal shamanic societies believe that we are part of the
universe and must be in balance with all of Mother Earth and Father Sky in gratitude to Great
Spirit. The have much to teach us today.

When someone is seriously harmed by a medical professional to the point where they will be
damaged for the rest of their life, they deserve to be compensated, especially if the person is a
dependent and will need lifelong care. A serious example of this problem is the case of a couple
in Nebraska whose son was born with cerebral palsy due to negligence by their obstetrician.
When the case went to trial, the monetary value assessed for taking care of their son for the rest of
his life was six million dollars, and the jury awarded them 5.6 million. However, the cap on all
damages, both economic and noneconomic, is 1.25 million, so that was the amount of money
the couple received (Hot Coffee). This is a problem for two reasons: caps limit the jury s ability
to make a fair decision based on the trial, and the lack of money paid out by the doctor s
insurance will have to be covered by taxpayers later. The point of a jury is to allow a panel of
peers to judge a person s case and give a worthy compensation in the civil justice system, and caps
take this away from the jury. The son will now be taken care of by Medicaid and Social Security
money, which ultimately comes out of tax payer s pockets, leaving citizens responsible for
something the insurance companies should have covered. This is exactly what insurance
companies want, and they will continue to ensure they pay out as little money as

I.INTRODUCTION Regardless of what nation an individual resides in, certain issues are

incarceration. Over the past 25 years, juvenile crimehas skyrocketed, with drug crimes, gang

past 10 years, nearly all 50 states have overhauled their juvenile justice laws, allowing more youths
to be tried as adults. However, in addressing crime, there must be an effective balance between
deterrence, prevention, and punishment. This paper analyzes the juvenile justice system and the
effectiveness of sentencing alternatives like juvenile detention centers and shelters. Part II details

the cabin, way before I was born. It had a small fireplace in the living room that I have never
seen be used and dead, stuffed fish on plaques hanging on the wall from years ago. It had two
garages that were joined together with a door like an adjoining hotel room, but they were both
detached from the house. Down the street from the cabin there is a liquor and grocery store, a
post office, a gas station, and a small shop called Owls and Things. Owls and Things is a souvenir
shop, but they sell ice cream as well. Every day we were at the cabin our family would walk down
the street and get ice cream. It was by far the most favorite part of the day, not only because I
love ice cream, but because I loved looking through the glass at all of the different ice cream
flavor choices and pondering about which flavor I was going to pick that day. When I was
younger it just seemed so magical and exciting for me to go and get that ice cream.

22. Discussion of the Settings in the Great Gatsby by F. Scott...
A Discussion of the Three Major Setting in The Great Gatsby
Setting is an integral part of a novelist s or playwright s ability to communicate characters ideals
and attitudes. One of the greatest American authors, Francis Scott Fitzgerald also employs these
essential strategies when describing the three main setting of The Great Gatsby: West Egg, East
Egg, and the Valley of the Ashes. Fitzgerald relates West Egg with the less fashionable side of
Long Island and new money , relates East Egg to the fashionable side of Long Island and old
money , and relates the Valley of Ashes to a desolate wasteland that represents the crumbling of
the American Dream and the destruction caused by modern society. West Egg promotes ideals of
individuality and illegality and creates an atmosphere of lavish spending; however, East Egg gives
rise to ideals of upper class society fueling attitudes of condescension towards lower classes of
people including West Egg, while the Valley of Ashes is the manifestation of the desolate wasteland
surrounding a city that represents the withering of the American Dream.
In The Great Gatsby, the first setting we are introduced to is West Egg. West Egg is described in
the book as a place where the lower and middle class who have found themselves outrageous
amounts of money reside. As an immediate consequence to this, they spend lavishly on extravagant
desires of theirs. This is exemplified when Fitzgerald writes, From West Egg came the Poles and the

Question 1:
Aboriginal religion is based on land. Land is the heart of Aboriginal Dreaming and provides the
assurance needed for the continuation of rituals and ceremonies (king, 2010, p.213). The effect of
Dispossession on Aboriginal spiritualities related to the separation from their land was enormous
and overwhelmingly detrimental.
The impact of British colonisation resulted in Australia being declared terra nullius land belonging

Question 2:
In the period 1947 2006, the Australian population grew from about 7.6 million to about 20
million. During this time there was an overall decline in the percentage of people identifying with a
religion (frost course notes, 2010).
According to source 2 Christianity remained the dominant religion in Australia, although non
Christian religions continued to grow at a much faster rate. Since 1996, Christianity grew from
around 12.6 million to 12.7 million, but compared to the other religions and the total population
this number fell from 71% to 64%. Within Christianity, Anglicans dropped from 22% of the
population to 18.7%, and therefore resulted in a decrease growth of 4.7 within the time period of

narcissistic, and impatient (Rampell 388). In all reality our generation is just doing what it has
to in order to thrive in the world we live in, where technology is one of the largest parts of our
everyday lives. If the older generations that criticize Generation Y had grown up in Generation
Y they would realize the world we live in requires the use of technology. The advancement of
society with technology has shaped Generation Y to be the people that they are, relying on
technology; however, older generations believe Generation Y is lazy. The world we live in
today depends on technology to run. We have phones that can practically do anything. That is
where the older generations say we are lazy, it is not that we are lazy, instead we are intuitive
and resourceful. These words are viewed differently by Generation Y as we are trying to simplify
everything, allowing work to be done faster. For example, in A Generation of Slackers? Not So

Throughout her life, novelist Virginia Woolf suffered with mental illness, and she ultimately
ended her life at age 59. As art often imitates life, it is not surprising that characters in Woolf s
works also struggle with mental illness. One of her novels, Mrs. Dalloway, recounts a day in the
life of Clarissa Dalloway, a high society woman living in London, and those who run in her circle.
As the novel progresses the reader sees one of the characters, Septimus, struggle with post traumatic
stress disorder brought on by serving in war. At the end of the story, he commits suicide. While
there is no explicit articulation of any other character suffering from mental illness in the novel,
Septimus is not alone. Through her thoughts and actions, we can deduce that Clarissa also
endures mental and emotional suffering. Though Clarissa does not actually attempt to end her
life in the novel, her mental and emotional suffering lead her to exhibit suicidal tendencies. To
prove this, I will examine Clarissa s thoughts and actions from a psychological perspective.
According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the following are
considered warning signs of suicide talking about feeling trapped, and talking about a feeling of
hopelessness or having no reason to live ( Suicidal Behavior ). In Mrs. Dalloway, Clarissa rarely
talks openly about how she is feeling, so the other characters in the novel seldom see Clarissa as
anything but the version of herself she

The use of JIT will help the company increase their efficiency by cut down on wait time and
processing, all of which will translate to increased productivity and hence profitability. According
to Heizer Render (2011) employee training is vital to the success of a company, this is so true of
MICI, because of the extensive standard training and cross training of the MICI employees will
translate to increased efficiency, productivity flexibility, decreased wait time for customers and as
history has depicted, costumers satisfaction is integral to the success of a company because
customers are the major drivers in the market.
The layout strategy is another concept the book touched on, the new layout of the claims
department will allow for better workflow. It will also improve claims time, employee
empowerment due to the proximity of workers to each order and flow of work in the cell,
flexibility of the various equipment used by the company (Heizer Render, 2011).
Overall Ms.is using the fundamental principle of the JIT, work cell concept, the concept of
employees development, concept revamping and old system that is nonfunctional with the help of
the of experts and the people who actually work in the field. All of which, will hopefully increase
throughput, increase flexibility, reduce variability and give MICI a competitive advantage in the
market.

The fact that this takes place in USA late 1900s makes this book more relatable. Also this novel
has problems such as love, hatred, and violent crime. These real world problems are what makes
this novel even relatable. There is nothing like seeing superheros go through the same struggles we
go through daily. Finally, another reason why this book is very influential is that even though it is
a novel about superheroes it does not follow how, normally, a superhero story would be told. For
example, in
Superman comics, the clear villain is Lex Luthor and the clear hero is none other than
Superman. However in Watchmen Adrian Veidt was thought to be a superhero for most of the
novel until it was revealed that he was actually a villain. Also, the watchmen are supposed to be

This essay will be looking at the advantages and disadvantages of the jury trial. Jury trial is a
legal proceeding where a jury makes a decision, which then direct the actions of a judge. The
members of a jury are a group of independent citizens. They have no interest in the case before
them, nor is their judgment coloured by regular experience of the business of the court. They are
twelve individuals, often with no prior contact with the courts, who are chosen at random to listen

criminal offences. The juryhas always been drawn from sections of society but has been made
democratic only in the last half century. And now almost all citizen of the United Kingdom are

surprisingly low. Nowadays the magistrates courts deal with at least 95 per cent of criminal
cases. In practice juries determine the outcome of less than 1 per cent of the total of the criminal
cases. But still the idea of trial by jury has always been seen as a cornerstone of the English legal
system , and it remains the standard mode of trial for dealing with the most serious types of
criminal case. But even though it is established and been in practice for years, people seem to

widely recognized and acknowledged. Although he cannot be considered a star, he can be
classified as an actor because he is professionally trained and has indisputable talent. He is
known to play very tough and intimidating characters who are not to be trifled with. Ali s acting
style can be classified as representational because his gestures and expressions come so naturally,
as if he could easily relate to the characters that he plays. In some of his past roles, Ali has played
the parts of a soldier and a crime lord, which shows how he usually plays gritty and fearless
characters. In many of these roles, Ali s character is not very talkative, but he is well respected
and his words hold a great deal of weight. People who have seen some of Ali s other films and
television shows would expect nothing less than a bold and uncompromising performance. Ali s
performance in Moonlight does not disappoint because he embraces his reputation as an actorthat
plays characters with a quiet, yet heavy presence. He also draws upon his experiences in
previous roles to exceed the high expectations set for him. His character in Moonlight, Juan, is a

as Oprah has affected the lives of so many in catastrophic ways. However, Oprah wasn t someone
who was simply brought up on sums of money, she created her own luck and surpassed traumatic
obstacles that continued to sculpt her into the woman she is today. For Winfrey it all began
when she was born in 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She had a less than traditional upbringing
since her parents were never married and drifted apart, leaving Oprah in the care of her
grandmother. This is where she learned to read and write and develop the speaking skills that
she carried with her through her carrier. As a child she developed these skills through poetry
recitals and other public speaking events. Winfrey s troubles began around the age of 9 when
she started to act out. Her lack of parental supervision left Winfrey extremely vulnerable as she
sought attention elsewhere. Before the age of 10 Winfrey was sexually abused by various men,
including her teenage cousin and mother s boyfriend. Winfrey felt ashamed and held this
experience a secret with her for years to come. As Winfrey continued to act out her mother
shipped her off to live with her father in Tennessee. He was a strict disciplinary figure, something
Winfrey greatly lacked in her life, and it was this man who changed her life drastically. My

38. Flamenco and the Spanish Culture
You can learn a lot about a country based on the music that s produced there. The music of Spain is
rich in both history and culture. Many different musical styles have originated from various
locations through Spain such as Flamenco from Andalusia, the Galician bagpipe music from
Galicia and the classical guitar music that originated throughout Spainin the early . Spanish music
is very diverse and reflects the large cultural differences between regions. The music of Spain has
also had a large impact on the music of western cultures.(Music of Spain). Flamencois a form of
Spanish folk musicwhich originated in Andalusia in the south of the country. This type of music
as we know it today is a spectacle which is made up for four different elements Cante Voice,
Baile Dance, Toque Guitar, and the Jaleo, which roughly translated means hell raising and
involves hand clapping, foot stomping, and encouraging shouts of the audience ( Flamenco
History. ). However it was not always like this. Flamenco was first recorded in the late 18th
century and consisted of what the Spanish refer to as Palo Secos, or dry styles.( Flamenco
History. ). This was basicly singing or chanting accompanied only by a rhythm beaten out on the
floor by a wooden staff or cane. However the genre underwent a dramatic development in the late
19th century and had become the spectacle that we know today. In the past flamenco music was
not very widespread outside the region of its origin. However in

The prisoners will serve their sentences at this five year old institution or at Valley State Prison,

Male inmates work their bodies constantly, doing hundreds of squat thrusts and jumping jacks even
when restricted to a maximum security cage. Women, who fear the central yard, work out their

Men s prisons divide the population by security level; women under minimum, medium and
maximum security freely mix. Men tend to congregate by race, whether or not they prefer to in the
free world. This is less true for women. Male gangs thrive in prison. Female gangs leave their colors
on the street, some creating small families in prison with designated mothers, fathers, siblings for
support.
Rarely do men become intimate with their keepers. Many women share their lives with officers
shift after shift after shift. Men either honor orders or defy them. Women ask why.
Only 29 percent of the guards at the Central California Women s Facility are women. This fact
worsens the already ancient problems of troubled women, many of whom are accustomed to
coercive relationships, when they are placed in a highly sexualized, paramilitary setting in the
custody mostly of men. An ongoing investigation of state prisons by the Human Rights Watch
Women s Rights Project found that female inmates experienced some form of custodial sexual
misconduct regardless of the prison or state; inappropriate sexual contact, verbal degradation, rape,
sexual assault and unwarranted visual supervision were reported from California to New

40. Sweat Lodge Research Paper
Indigenous individuals have many holistic approaches to healing which includes ceremonies, rituals
and herbal remedies to cure their disease or illness. Through this holistic approach, the healer tries
to connect the individual s body to the environment so that they can be cured mentally, physically,
emotionally and spiritually. Every indigenous people manages to find the balance within
themselves and the nature. The indigenous people practices the non westernized medicalization,
just like the Ayuverdic medicine. It all contains natural ingredients of herbs, where it will be
applied on the affected area and used within the ceremony of healing. Throughout this essay, I
will be focusing on one of the indigenous healing practices, the sweat lodge. I will be giving the
history of how the sweat lodge came into existence, what is a sweat lodge, how the sweat lodge
works and what it is being practiced for.

A sweat lodge is a home to many individuals, where a sacred commitment is made to the energy
of mother earth (Heart, 2001). This place is where the individual can be reborn and be cleansed

let out their spirits to mingle with one another to create an opening in order for them to move
around freely (Heart, 2001). The sweat lodge is not a place for many individuals who can come
in to pretend to be a shaman (Heart, 2001). It is not right for people to think that the ceremony
can be practiced through a book and cannot take the advantage to eat, drink, dance and do drugs

instead, takes donations and offerings for the ceremony to happen again (Heart,

they have not at some point in their life. Being blamed for something that one was not responsible

One of the most prevalent cases of false accusation is a woman arraigning a man for rape.
Biurny Peguero s case is a perfect example. A woman named Biurny Peguero decided to frame a

enforcement that she was sexually assaulted by three men, only mentioning McCaffery. She
utilized the bite marks on her body that she received from a night out with her girl friends to
claim that McCaffery caused them. After the night out, she asked the three men to give her a
ride back to her friends. McCaffery and the other two men did just that, without touching her.
She received the bite marks from her friends, because when she returned to her friends, all of
them broke out in a ridiculous brawl. Edicio Martinez of CBS News wrote that, But upon the
returning of her friends the argument that began in the Umbrella Lounge escalated into a full

The Great Plains Indians followed the buffalo migration because they were the primary food
source. The Great Plains Indians utilized all parts of the buffalo and nothing went to waste. The
Buffalo hide was used for shelter and clothing, the bones were used for weapons and tools, the
horns were used for spoons and cups, and the tails were used as whips. The buffalo s stomach
was also used as a container to hold water. (Native American Indian Facts) The Plains Indians
would seize upon the opportunity to hunt what was available for food such as small game, elk and

the Indians lived, let s look at how the expansion of America affected the Indians.
The American expansion into the Plains in the nineteenth century involved the purposeful or

46. The Different Differences Between Eastern And Western Culture
The perspective of culture, however, might be quite relative. Since culture can be learned, obtained,
adapted, and even transmitted from one society to another. Throughout the development of human
race, culture may also rely on many variables, including knowledge, religion, customs, and habits.
Therefore, Eastern and Western cultures mentioned below are relatively right in most
circumstances, not all of them. It is widely believed that parent s own heritage can have a powerful
impact on parenting style. Many people argue that the concept of individualism and collectivism is
the primary difference between Eastern and Western culture(Nisbett, R. E., 2003). A list of 18 pairs

parents. Conversely, teenagers may require more personal space where they can freely express

may frequently emphasize on family unit since young adolescents gradually reveal the need of
expressing their own image, making decisions by themselves rather than depending on family.
Furthermore, at both stages given above, kids are expected to obey any sayings from the authority.
There may be endless discussions about so many differences between the two cultures. Thus, this

8). The idea of completely reconstructing the historical city centre to its previous splendor was
discarded by van Traa and a new spatial layout designed to separate functions and accommodate
traffic was developed (Groenendijk, 2015, p. 8). Nonetheless, the fire line of the German bombing
is still visible due to the difference between the old, nineteenth century buildings and the new, post
war construction (Groenendijk, 2015, p. 18). The Basic Plan for Reconstruction implemented an
efficient traffic plan on an orthogonal grid and the separation of functions was influenced by
modernist urban planning ides. However, the Basic Plan only governed urban planning in
Rotterdam until the 1970s when criticism of the emptiness, lack of housing, and lack of warmth

Rotterdam in the late 1960s stating that the inner city failed at providing a vibrant, varied,
convivial, pleasant, intimate city (Meyer, 1999, p.328). The Markthal Rotterdam addresses the
criticism of the Basic Plan, although the outdated Basic Plan didn t directly influence its design, by

48. Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies, By Seth Holmes
What do we expect as a life of a Mexican migrant? The American public consistently listens to the
media to these people crossing the border illegally, which is deemed as a crime. They see these
people as stealing American jobs and benefiting from government programs such as welfare.
Countless people think it was voluntary for them to come to the United State, therefore they
deserve whatever comes their way, either health problems, racism or low paying jobs. However,
what countless American people don t realize is that the majority of Mexican migrants are forced
to migrate to the United State to survive. They constantly risk their lives to cross a dangerous
border in order to find the jobs that the American people don t want to endure. In the book called
Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies, the author, Seth Holmes focus on the lives of an indigenous Mexican
group called the Triquis. Throughout the book, he focuses on the journey of the group from their
hometown in Oaxacato farms in California and Washington. The book also emphasizes on how
racism and health problems of migrant workers have become invisible. Their health problems and
their social status in the social hierarchy are blamed on themselves because they decided to come
to a place where they are seen as illegal aliens. Instead of blaming the Triqui people of their
sickness, health care facilities need to treat them without judgement, address what exactly their
sickness is as well as its structural causes. Mexican migrant

49. Economies Of Scale And Scope
Economies of Scope:
Economies of scale and scope help producers lower their cost by producing the next unit of
output at lower costs this trend continues until production reaches a level of diseconomies of
scale where production is no longer running as efficient as it should. This tends to increase the
barriers to entry for new competitors as when they enter the market they will experience a higher
cost of production. Why? Solely because they have smaller economies of scale and cannot afford
to sell the product at the same price as other much larger firms. Generally, economies of scale and
scope positively affect General Electric. Since General Electric is one of the biggest
conglomerates in the world it has the opportunity to offer products and services through the same
organization. These products might be highly unalike but due to the wide range of businesses
covered by GE the prospect is there. For example, GE, in order to continue a healthy relationship
with valued customers, has allowed the multimillion dollar purchase of its jet engines to be
financed over long periods of time. The catch is that these finance opportunities are usually done
via a leasing arrangement from GE Finance. In recent year GE has pursued a service strategy when
it comes to selling aircraft engines. They sell what they call power by the hour this enables the
private firm to indirectly rent the engine turbines, in return the firm would award GE with
maintenance contracts on the engines. This

The Pivotal Dichotomies of Science and Religion
Science can help identify and elaborate upon the laws of nature, help humans ascertain an improved
understanding of the universe, and enable people to acquire powerful thinking skills to generate
innovative and beneficial ideas. However, in the recent centuries many scholars have addressed the
numerous conflicts that have emerged between the fields of science and religion. Although certain
similar factors can render science and religion compatible, many differences have caused a
contentious divisiveness to permeate between the two fields. Many philosophers have contemplated
and debated the relationship between science and religion. While both science and religion ask and
answer questions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Religion often concentrates its arguments on the actual creator or god of the universe. For instance,
religions often assert that God is a being with intelligence, will, desires, and dislikes. Religions in
turn have a propensity to focus on the desires of the creator, the codes of behavior that God expects
humans to exhibit, rewards the creator bestows upon those who obey these requirements, and the
punishments God inflicts upon transgressors who violate the requirements. Religion also
emphasizes the specific manners by which God created the universe, as in Genesis, established by
the Ancient Israelites and promoted by modern Christians. Rather than focusing on the actual
creation or universe, religions tend to focus on the creator and the concepts of God that are
expressed and maintained in the religious doctrine. In contrast, science tends to refrain from
generating assertions regarding the creator and instead focuses entirely on the actual creation.
Science primarily addresses many different aspects of the creation, including the beginnings of the
universe, the matter and features of the world, how stars and galaxies formed, how planets were
established, how our planet generates life, and how life functions and develops on Earth. Although
science and religion both express divine laws, science focuses on the laws of nature that govern the
motions and developments of

Background
Organ transplantation is a surgical procedure of replacing a failing or diseased organ with a
healthier donor organ. In 2011, nearly 80% of 4500 Canadians needing an organ transplant are
waiting for a donor. Of which, 35% died while waiting for an organ. In 2014, 2356 organs were

transplantation is critical and the transplanted organ must stay healthy for the rest of the recipient s
life. The immune system of the transplant patient can recognize the antigens on the transplant organ
as foreign bodies and attacks. To prevent this reaction, transplant patients are prescribed
immunosuppressive drugs. Organ rejection is crucial because ... Show more content on

encapsulation efficiency but drug loading is comparatively low which might be a problem with
certain drugs (Mirakabad et al. 2014). Delivery of a pH sensitive drug might not be feasible as

52. Literary Analysis Of Two Kinds By Amy Tan
For millions of immigrants, America has been seen as the land of opportunity where anyone could
become anything he or she wanted to be. A family that believes strongly in the American dream can
be found in Amy Tan s short story, Two Kinds. The story centers around the daughter of a Chinese
immigrant who desperately wants her daughter to become successful. In the story, the author shows
the difficult lives immigrants face when moving to a new culture. In this short story, the theme
shows the protagonist s conflict with her mother on the type of daughter her mother wants her to
be. The author establishes the theme of how difficult mother daughter relationships can be through
characterization, setting, and symbolism.
Primarily, Tan establishes the theme of the story through characterization. The protagonist, Jing
mei, finds it difficult to live up to the high expectations her mother has set for her. After seeing so
much disappointment in her mother s face, Jine mei look[s] in the mirror above the bathroom sink
and when [she] saw only [her] face staring back and that it would always be this ordinary face she

screaming at her mother that [she] wish[ed] she were dead. Like them (Tan 8). As she matures, Jing
mei becomes a little more level headed; she then understands her mother only wants the best for her.

two types in Greece. Athens is superior to Sparta, because how things were changed, and the power
of the people. First, Athenswent through different types of government, it made them where they

the best geographical advantage, and I think we all know which one that is. Athens is superior to
Sparta, because it is the largest city state in Greece, the three different regions, the trades, and the
