Theory over practice or practice over theory? I won't give you a definite answer to apply (always! in every context!), but rather would like to invite you to explore the question itself with me. We can look into the definitions of theory and practice, wonder what our stakeholders might be, think about analogies in testing activities and question which problem we're trying to solve here.

Are Your Lights On? (2011)
What’s the problem?
What’s the problem?
What’s the problem, really?
Whose problem is it?
Where does it come from?
Do we really want to solve it?

We take the view that discussions
are more interesting than lectures.
We enjoy diverse ideas,

11. Theory Over Practice or Practice Over Theory?
"Do you prefer experience or expertise?
Do you simply dive in or do you first scope out?
Do your skills get sharpened on the job or in your head?
Do we just need to get along and get on with it or are the
semantics worth getting straight?
Is the view from the coalface more valuable than the one
from the library?"

Editor's Notes
I won't give you a definite answer to apply (always! in every context!),
Let’s be testing, let’s explore the question.
ONCE YOU HAVE A PROBLEM STATEMENT IN WORDS, PLAY WITH THE WORDS UNTIL THE STATEMENT IS IN EVERYONE’S HEAD.
Play with the words of a problem statement to throw some light on the problem, reveal a difference in understanding or the like.
Express the words in the form of an equation.
Question: Can you make a wrong choice? How could you validate that you’ve made a right or wrong choice?
Change positives to negatives and vice versa.
Question: Do we have to choose between one or the other? How different are they really? Are there grey areas?
Replace any of the words
Question: What makes us label something as theory or practice?
Interesting description: carrying out or exercise of a profession
