SUMMARY OF ARACHNE:
Arachne is a mortal who believes her wool work is superior to
Athena’s. Athena hears of her boast and disguises herself as an
elderly woman and she gives her a chance to step down and
apologize to the god. Arachne still believes she is better than Athena
and refuses to apologize, causing Athena to return to her godly state
and challenge Arachne to a contest that she accepts. They both
create intricate designs of the gods from their point of view. Athena
sees Arachne’s beautiful work and becomes jealous and destroys it.
Athena then strikes Arachne four times to the forehead who takes it
very hard. Arachne then ties a noose around her neck and tries to kill
herself, but Athena pities her and turns her into a spider.

explains the creation of spiders, and it also tells
how to it is not right to boast or brag.
Arachne was a plain, pale, young mortal who
was famous for her legendary fleece weaving.
Arachne is prideful and conceited about her
weaving.
•I learned in the life of Arachne is be
humble, don't be so proud or boast
yourself because everything goes up,
humility comes.
•Do not be boastful, stay humble , don't
you ever challenge God (gods or
goddesses,) do not compare yourself
to the others because we are all
"I have had much
experience," said she,
"and I hope you will not
despise my counsel.
Challenge your fellow-
mortals as you will, but
do not compete with a
goddess."
