Social Media Marketing Strategies
• Apple has very unique approach to how they utilize social
media platforms. They have a Facebook and Twitter
account but they have never actually posted anything.
Apple also has an Instagram but it’s only feature photos
from their shot on iPhone campaign. And this begs the
question, why doesn’t apple take an advantage of their
huge social media following by promoting product and
services on social media platforms. And the answer is
they actually do but probably not in the way you’d
expect.
Apple Doesn’t Use Social Media To Sell
• Apple’s reticence on social media is partly because it
doesn’t need to be there — it doesn’t need to prod users
to buy its products. Apple’s launch events create enough
buzz to make sales, and users literally queue up to get
their hands on its latest offerings.
• Well, for one thing, Apple doesn’t have a social media
strategy on most platforms. You could also say Apple’s
social media strategy is to avoid a social media presence
at all.
• Remember, this is the company charging nearly $1,000
USD for a monitor stand and $160 for wireless
headphones. They could certainly afford to staff, create
content for, and manage their pages – but they don’t.
Apple’s Social Media Strategy on
Facebook
• Apple does have a dedicated Facebook page with over 13
million followers, but they haven’t gone through the
hassle of verifying their official page.
• No one posts regular content to the Facebook page either.
The only updates you’ll find are for new cover photos.
Apple hasn’t even shared a video in over two years.
• Apple doesn’t post to their Facebook and Twitter pages,
they do create posts for their new products.
Apple isn’t even currently running any ads Complaints in comment box

Twitter
• Apple is basically
absent from Twitter as
well – even more so
than Facebook since
Twitter doesn’t really
publicize your cover
photo updates.
• Although, Apple clearly
does regularly update
its Twitter cover photo.
• Including Apple
Support: A Twitter
page designed to
provide much-needed
customer service via
social media. The
Apple Support page
follows a handful of
pages – all of which are
fairly active too.
Wait…Apple promotes on social
media?
• Yes. And they’re smart for doing
it. Remember, Apple
doesn’t sell on social media. When
they craft a social media
promotion, they are careful to not
push a product to be a sales pitch.
• For example, during the holiday’s
in 2018 they have a “Give the Gift
of Go with Apple Watch”
campaign. By positioning their ad
this way, they’re not saying “buy
someone an Apple Watch because
it’s an Apple Watch” but instead
they’re saying “buy someone an
Apple Watch and give them
adventure and motivation.”

• Here’s where things
get interesting. Apple
is extremely active on
Instagram, posting
new content several
times a week and
regularly updating
their story.
Apple’s Social Media Strategy on
YouTube
• This is the era of video marketing, and Apple uses videos
actively for promotions. This is why YouTube is an
essential platform for Apple to engage its followers. It’s
also a great platform for running social media
campaigns. Several of Apple’s 245 videos have attracted
a huge number of visits. Its iPhone X unleash video has
received more than 8 million visits in just a month.

  • 3. Social Media Marketing Strategies • Apple has very unique approach to how they utilize social media platforms. They have a Facebook and Twitter account but they have never actually posted anything. Apple also has an Instagram but it’s only feature photos from their shot on iPhone campaign. And this begs the question, why doesn’t apple take an advantage of their huge social media following by promoting product and services on social media platforms. And the answer is they actually do but probably not in the way you’d expect.
  • 4. Apple Doesn’t Use Social Media To Sell • Apple’s reticence on social media is partly because it doesn’t need to be there — it doesn’t need to prod users to buy its products. Apple’s launch events create enough buzz to make sales, and users literally queue up to get their hands on its latest offerings. • Well, for one thing, Apple doesn’t have a social media strategy on most platforms. You could also say Apple’s social media strategy is to avoid a social media presence at all. • Remember, this is the company charging nearly $1,000 USD for a monitor stand and $160 for wireless headphones. They could certainly afford to staff, create content for, and manage their pages – but they don’t.

Apple’s Social Media Strategy on Facebook • Apple does have a dedicated Facebook page with over 13 million followers, but they haven’t gone through the hassle of verifying their official page. • No one posts regular content to the Facebook page either. The only updates you’ll find are for new cover photos. Apple hasn’t even shared a video in over two years. • Apple doesn’t post to their Facebook and Twitter pages, they do create posts for their new products.

  • 8. Apple’s Social Media Strategy on Twitter • Apple is basically absent from Twitter as well – even more so than Facebook since Twitter doesn’t really publicize your cover photo updates. • Although, Apple clearly does regularly update its Twitter cover photo.
  • 9. • Including Apple Support: A Twitter page designed to provide much-needed customer service via social media. The Apple Support page follows a handful of pages – all of which are fairly active too.
  • 10. Wait…Apple promotes on social media? • Yes. And they’re smart for doing it. Remember, Apple doesn’t sell on social media. When they craft a social media promotion, they are careful to not push a product to be a sales pitch. • For example, during the holiday’s in 2018 they have a “Give the Gift of Go with Apple Watch” campaign. By positioning their ad this way, they’re not saying “buy someone an Apple Watch because it’s an Apple Watch” but instead they’re saying “buy someone an Apple Watch and give them adventure and motivation.”
  • 11. Apple’s Social Media Strategy on Instagram • Here’s where things get interesting. Apple is extremely active on Instagram, posting new content several times a week and regularly updating their story.

This is why YouTube is an essential platform for Apple to engage its followers. It’s also a great platform for running social media campaigns. Several of Apple’s 245 videos have attracted a huge number of visits. Its iPhone X unleash video has received more than 8 million visits in just a month.
