apidays LIVE Jakarta - Serverless powered Low Code by Alex-Adrien Auger, Sipiosapidays
This document discusses the challenges of integrating low-code/no-code platforms with external APIs and proposes some patterns and solutions. It notes that real applications often need to connect to APIs for transactions, data, notifications etc. Directly connecting low-code products to many different APIs can create a poor developer experience. The document recommends using a facade pattern to abstract the APIs and define a single interface. It also suggests defensive coding practices like validation, retries and circuit breakers when working with unpredictable external APIs. Fully leveraging serverless architectures and functions is presented as enabling true DevOps for low-code products by handling data, APIs and events without requiring complex backend code.

App modernization projects are hard. Enterprises are looking to cloud-native platforms like Pivotal Cloud Foundry to run their applications, but they’re worried about the risks inherent to any replatforming effort.
Fortunately, several repeatable patterns of successful incremental migration have emerged.
In this webcast, Google Cloud’s Prithpal Bhogill and Pivotal’s Shaun Anderson will discuss best practices for app modernization and securely and seamlessly routing traffic between legacy stacks and Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
Cloud native applications offer scalability, flexibility, and optimal use of compute resources. Serverless functions interacting through events, leveraging cloud capabilities for persistent storage and automated operations take organization to the next level in IT. This session demonstrates polyglot Functions interacting with native cloud services for events and persistence (Object Storage and NoSQL Database) and leveraging the Key and Secrets Vault, Monitoring and Notifications services for operational control. A lightweight API Gateway is used to expose APIs to external consumers. Infrastructure as Code is the guiding principle in deploying both cloud resources and application components, through OCI CLI and Terraform. This session leverages many cloud native (enabling) services in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The session will introduce concepts, then spend most of the time on live demonstrations. All sources are shared with the audience, to allow participants to create the same application in their own cloud tenancy.
What is so great about Cloud Native Applications? How do you create one? I will explain the first and demonstrate the second. On Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, using services that anyone can use for free, I will live create a cloud native application that streams, persists, notifies, scales, monitors

The document discusses event-driven architecture (EDA). EDA is a software architecture pattern that promotes processing, detecting, consuming, and reacting to events. An event is defined as a significant change in state. EDA allows for real-time processing as events happen, push notifications, and immediate actions by consumers without waiting. EDA is scalable in processing, design, and adapting to change. It focuses on domain logic and collaborating with domain experts. EDA uses message brokers, producers that generate events, and consumers that process events.

Introduction of Cybersecurity with OSS at Code Europe 2024Hiroshi SHIBATA
I develop the Ruby programming language, RubyGems, and Bundler, which are package managers for Ruby. Today, I will introduce how to enhance the security of your application using open-source software (OSS) examples from Ruby and RubyGems.
The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.
I'll share insights into how the Ruby and RubyGems core team works to keep our ecosystem safe. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of how to safeguard your code.

Chris Jones, Director of Product Management at BrainChip , presents the “Temporal Event Neural Networks: A More Efficient Alternative to the Transformer” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices. This presentation delves into the technical innovations underlying TENNs, presents real-world benchmarks, and elucidates how this cutting-edge approach is positioned to revolutionize edge AI across diverse applications.

How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?
Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.
Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

14. Event Broker
According to Gartner, event brokers
“are middleware products that are
used to facilitate, mediate and enrich
the interactions of sources and
handlers in event-driven computing.”
15. Event Broker Type
According to Gartner, There are 3 Type of Event Brokers
1. Queue-Oriented : Pubsub Mechanism -> typically based on creating queues for each consumer (or shared
consumer group) and a routing mechanism to deliver published message to the appropriate queues. Sample :
Solace PubSub+, RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, etc.
2. Log-Oriented : based on the concept of an append-only logs of messages. Neither consumers nor the broker will
remove messages when processed. Instead the log is retained and messages are purged as they age or as the
log reaches a pre-determined size limit. This allows for what is called “message replay”. Sample : Apache
Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, etc.
3. Subscription-Oriented : born out of the need to support cloud-native function platform as a service and
serverless architectures. Sample : Amazon EventBridge, Azure Eventgrid, etc.
17. Solace Pubsub+
“A complete event streaming and
management platform for the real-time
enterprise.”
Three Deployment Options
1. Event Broker: Cloud is a managed service. Spin up event broker
services in minutes, scale to any level, and leave the operation of
your messaging infrastructure to us. Free service available.
2. Event Broker: Software is easy to deploy in your favorite clouds,
containers, and iPaaS/PaaS environments. And there’s a free
production-ready edition.
3. Event Broker: Hardware gives you extreme performance and
capacity in a compact form factor with the operations and low TCO
of a turnkey appliance.

24. Why Use
Event-Driven
Architecture
• Asynchronous — allows resources to move freely to the next
task once their unit of work is complete, without worrying about
what happened before or will happen next and avoid blocking.
• Loose Coupling — Services don’t need (and shouldn’t have)
knowledge of, or dependencies on other services.
• Easy Scaling — Since the services are decoupled under an
event-driven architecture, and as services typically perform only
one task, tracking down bottlenecks to a specific service, and
scaling that service (and only that service) becomes easy.
• Recovery Support — An event-driven architecture with a
queue can recover lost work by “replaying” events from the
past. This can be valuable to prevent data loss when a
consumer needs to recover
An event-driven architecture offers several advantages over REST, which
include
25. When to Use
API-Driven Architecture
• You need a time-bound request/reply interface
• Convenient support for transactions
