New Customer Requirements
The millennial will soon constitute up to 50% of the global workforce by
2020 and it is only natural for banks to pay heed to their concerns for a
more customer focused services.
Banking to-date has focused its attention on delivering a native banking
App onto the mobile channel. By just going mobile, it doesn’t cater to
all the needs of millennial generation!
 “I want to access my bank from inside my preferred social media App.”
 “I want to order and pay for a taxi in a single App interaction.”
 “I want to buy a car so I expect to find, research, finance, insure, pay for and manage the car
using my favorite ‘Motoring App’.”

Editor's Notes

  • #6 APIs were traditionally used by developers for collaboration by creating new customized applications on top of existing applications. With a surge in number of business applications, more APIs were created for collaboration. Long gone are the days when Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) were only considered a development technique. Today APIs have evolved into a business model driver and have become a boardroom discussion topic. APIs are the new must-have for business, representing the shift in business engagement with clients, partners and community
  • #7 The diagram and the text shows the time line of the evolution of APIs. The API economy, came into picture after 2010 and have been growing at an unexpected rate. Programmable web is the world largest public API repository with more than 14000+ public APIs as of today.
  • #8 Biggest threat facing the banking industry is not the risk of bad loans, aggressive competitors, or capricious economic cycles, but the rising competition from outside the traditional financial sector. Although digital banking is the need of the hour, traditional banks cannot go digital overnight. The only option left with the banks who are not born digital is to embrace the technology disruption.
  • #9 Millennial is a term used for people who are born between 1982 & 2004. They are the ones who do the most number of transactions and they are different from the previous generation customers. They are tech savvy and are ready to experiment with new technology unlike the previous generation customers and so their requirements are also new. Just by delivering a dedicated mobile banking app cannot fulfill all the requirements of the Millennials.
