APACHE

       Configure HTTPS
The configure script configures the source tree for
compiling and installing the Apache HTTP Server on your particular
platform. Various options allow the compilation of a server
corresponding to your personal requirements.

       SSL and HTTP
Both netscap navigator and internet explorer SSL, and
many web site use the protocol to obtain confidential
user information, such as credit card numbers.
Whereas SSL creates between a client and server , over which
any amount of data can be sent securely, S-HTTP is designed to
    transmit individual messages securely.
The Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is an application
layer protocol for distributed, collaborative, hypermedia
    information systems.
HTTP is a request response standard typical of client-server
computing. In HTTP, web browser typically act as clients,
while an application running on the computer hosting the
    website acts as a server.
Document root
The document root is a directory (a folder) that is stored
on your host's servers and that is designated for holding web pages.
When someone else looks at your web site, this is the location they
will be accessing.
In order for a website to be accessible to visitors, it must be
published to the correct directory, the "document root."
You might think that there would only be one directory in your
space on your host's servers, but often host provide services
beyond just a website. In this case, they are likely to set up
every account with several directories, since each service would
     require its own.
Remember, every host is different , so yours will probably not
look exactly like the picture above. Yours is quite likely to have
a completely different set of folders. It might even have none.

                Server root
On the Internet, the root server system is the way that an authoritative master list of
all top-level domain names (such as com, net, org,and individual country codes) is maintained and
made available to all routers.

The system consists of 13 file servers. The central or "A" server
is operated by Network Solutions, Inc., the company that
originally managed all domain name registration, and the
master list of top-level domain (TLD) names is kept on the A
      server.
On a daily basis, this list is replicated to 12 other geographically
dispersed file servers that are maintained by an assortment of
agencies. The Internet routing system uses the nearest root
server list to update routing tables.

            Configuration File
This article explains configuration files on a Linux system that control user
permissions, system applications, daemons, services, and other administrative tasks in a multi-user,
multi-tasking environment.

These tasks include managing user accounts, allocating disk
quotas, managing e-mails and newsgroups, and configuring
     kernel parameters.
This article also classifies the config files present on a Red Hat
Linux system based on their usage and the services they affect.

         Error Log
The error log files are most important, since they can act as an indicator for any
irregular performance of your site.

The error log file records any errors that the server
encounters in processing requests i.e. when your site is not able
       to respond to your visitors.
The recorded comprehensive information contains details
of what exactly went wrong, so you can find a way to fix it
       immediately.

            Execution time
The time during which actual work, such as addition or
multiplication, is carried out in the execution of a computer
instruction.
The time in which a single instruction is executed. It
makes up the last half of the instruction cycle.
