Mise-en-scene refers to everything within the frame of a shot that can be used to enhance the audience's understanding, including costumes, makeup, setting, props, and lighting. It aims to create a realistic feeling and help viewers comprehend the emotions and roles of characters. Key elements of mise-en-scene are costumes, which convey a character's identity; makeup, which can set the time period and distinguish characters; setting, which provides context for understanding roles; and props and lighting, which further immerse the audience in the story and its themes. Together, these components allow filmmakers to interact with and express meaning to audiences visually as well as verbally.

The structure and layout of each shot and the content with in it.
Why its important:
Mise-en-scene is important because it gives the film a real life feeling and this
helps the audience understand what is going on with in each shot. Mise-en-
scene is the material used with in a shot to express the emotions which are
supposed to be felt by the audience, Mise-en-scene relies on clothing, lighting,
make-up, surrounding props (cars, houses, furniture,…)and characters
behaviors, by doing this the producer is able to interact with the audience and
express them film to them not only by word but by vision as well.
Areas of Mise-en-scene:
Costume: The costume of each character gives the audience a understanding of
who the character is and what roll he/she plays, by using costumes producers
could add more than one character in each shot with out having confusion
between characters.
Ex: Batman, Thor, Superman, Dead pool, Spiderman.
Makeup: By using makeup the producers could set the year and genre of the film
and also enhance character presentation. By using makeup on characters
audience could differentiate between them and tell which character plays which
roll.
Ex: The Joker and Batman.
Setting: By using the setting the producer could set the genre of the film and
also depending on the shot could help you understand the roll of the character.
Ex:The Bat Cave for batman, Outer space for Thor……
Props: Props create meaning to the film by helping the audience visualize the
characters doing an action and understand what the action means.
Ex: If Thor didn't have his hammer he would not look like a strong and brave
character.
Lighting: Its made to set a ton to the shot and possibly form a vibe and
understanding for the scene, by doing this the audience can differentiate
between timings and the setting of the scene in which the character might be in.
Ex: Batmans cave has dark lighting making the audience feel like its
underground whiles when a shot of his house comes to play its always lit up
showing that the house is of value.
