Technology-Related Employment History:
 Radiological Controls Technician, Naval Submarine Support Command, Pearl
Harbor, HI. (Radiological Surveyor/ Work Oversight) (NEC 3376)
Responsible for ensuring the enforcement of and for performing all NAVSEA
required technical standards for nuclear work and for environmental/personal
radiation protection in Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate
Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF). PHNSY tends to eighteen Pearl Harbor
home ported nuclear submarines and up to ten visiting submarines to maintain
them in the highest possible state of mission readiness. Provided supervisory
oversight during work specializing in radiological controls, verified and issued
personnel dosimetry, performed radiation gradient characterization surveys for
reactor compartments, performed and analyzed all shipyard contamination
surveys, participated in operations to discharge ship’s highly radioactive coolant
resin and filter media and various other radiological support for all shipyard
maintenance and repairs onboard nuclear submarines. Responsible for the
proper control, transport and storage of all program radioactive material (RAM).
Responsible for responding to and leading all radiological casualty response in
the shipyard as well as assisting ship’s crew as requested.
 Quality Assurance Supervisor, USS Chicago, Pearl Harbor, HI and Agana,
Guam. (Assistant Quality Assurance Officer)
Established, organized, maintained and oversaw quality assurance programs on
a Navy 688 class nuclear submarine as well as working with local repair facilities.
Instructed and qualified organization level quality assurance managers for each
submarine division. Managed and facilitated squadron quality assurance ship
material inspections throughout the Pacific Fleet area. Also
acted as the machinery division’s quality assurance inspector and technical work
package writer for over 60% of the 70-month tour. Responsible for the technical
research, procurement of technical procedure work packages, cleanliness
inspection, critical surface area inspection and joint assembly oversight, system

restoration and recertification testing per the Navy Joint Fleet Maintenance
Manual and Submarine Safety Manual technical specifications.
 Machinery Division Work Center Supervisor, USS Chicago (SSN 721), Pearl
Harbor, HI and Agana, Guam. (Planned Maintenance Schedule Manager)
Supervised 15 nuclear machinist mate technicians in nuclear and non-nuclear
propulsion plant preventative maintenance, records audit and quarterly report,
scheduling, planning/coordinating depot-level refit periods and other forms of
mechanical and ship repairs.
 EPA universally certified HVAC service technician and refrigerant
handling/disposal technician. (Certification: A-652-0344/10050/001)
Responsible for ensuring the proper handling and disposal of CFC/HCFC
refrigerant and refrigerant permeated machinery oil. Performed R-114 HVAC
periodic maintenance, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, leak detection
and repair and vacuum drop testing on four units on the USS Chicago.
Performed training and supervised crew members on Standard Ship’s
Organization and Regulation manual requirements for refrigeration work on
submarines.
 Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program Emergency Welder (NEC 3351)
Trained in proficiency of shielded metal arch welding (SMAW), argon gas
tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and oxy-acetylene torch cutting and brazing
metallurgical weld processes. Certified in nuclear grade primary system piping
patchwork and pipe/coupling joint welding, using the SMAW and GTAW
processes, using applicable quality control processes and able to pass liquid dye
penetrant testing and radiography testing. Responsible for performing all nuclear
and non-nuclear emergent repair work involving metal cutting and welding
onboard submarines.
 Work Leader, USS Chicago (SSN 721), Pearl Harbor, HI and Agana, Guam.
(Nuclear Machinist’s Mate) (NEC 3365)
Responsible for the operation, maintenance, planning, documentation, records
and repair of all nuclear and non-nuclear propulsion plant related mechanical
equipment onboard including fresh water distillation and waste water systems.
 Engineering Department Training Assistant/Drill Coordinator
Responsible for planning and coordinating ship’s engineering department drills
and for ensuring plant safety from unexpected operator error. Specific
responsibilities include briefing and administering departmental drill scenarios,

Professional Activities outside Employment Setting:
 I volunteered at the Habitat for Humanity in Groton, CT every weekend during my
Navy “C” school for NNPP welding. This is not part of my normal job functions.

 Participated in a Navy submarine project to improve the Quality Assurance
program efficiency, management, documentation, auditing and surveillance for a
ship-wide multi-divisional cognizant effort with the USS Chicago’s Quality
Assurance Officer.
 Led a Navy 688 class submarine 4-plant HVAC R-114 refrigerant leak repair
project on the USS Chicago. In addition to performing extensive leak testing and
repair work, I performed numerous safety briefings with senior ship’s officers and
gave on-the-job training to junior Navy personnel on refrigeration work
techniques and technical standards.
