Biology is the study of living things and their vital processes. It includes the study of plants, animals, microorganisms, and their interactions within ecosystems. Biology is closely related to fields like biochemistry, biophysics, genetics and more. Applied biology looks at practical applications in areas like agriculture, medicine, forestry and more. Biology and pharmaceutical sciences are closely interlinked, as approximately 90% of drugs are obtained from plants and animals. Studying biology helps understand medicinal plants and animals as well as the chemical compounds within them that have therapeutic effects.

The document discusses the ISO-9000 quality standards. It provides an overview of the standards, including the three current standards (ISO-9000:2000, ISO-9001:2000, and ISO-9004:2000). ISO-9001:2000 outlines specific requirements for compliance, while the others provide information or guidelines. The standards are process-oriented rather than product-oriented. Getting certified brings customer orders, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness through better process controls. The process of certification involves developing a quality system, conducting internal audits, an external audit, receiving accreditation if approved, and ongoing surveillance audits. Benefits include improved quality, raised confidence, and ability to export to countries requiring ISO standards.
A Statistician's View on Big Data and Data Science in Pharmaceutical Developm...Prof. Dr. Diego Kuonen
Presentation given by Dr. Diego Kuonen, CStat PStat CSci, on October 13, 2014, at `F. Hoffmann-La Roche' in Basel, Switzerland.
ABSTRACT
There is no question that big data have hit the business, government and scientific sectors, as well as the pharmaceutical industry. The demand for skills in data science is unprecedented in sectors where value, competitiveness and efficiency are driven by data. However, there is plenty of misleading hype around the terms `big data' and `data science'. This presentation gives a professional statistician's view on these terms in pharmaceutical development, illustrates the connection between data science and statistics, and highlights some challenges and opportunities from a statistical perspective.
The presentation is also available at http://www.statoo.com/BigDataDataScience/.
This document outlines the key topics and concepts covered in a course on statistics in pharmaceutical sciences. It includes definitions of important statistical terms like population, sample, parameter, statistic, variables, and study types. It also describes levels of measurement, the basics of control groups and placebos in studies, and provides an overview of the steps involved in planning a statistical study.
components of self awarness-cognitive styles, attitude towards change and cor...Sapan Dulal
This document discusses various aspects of self-awareness, including emotional intelligence, values, cognitive style, attitude towards change, and core self-evaluation. It examines individual cognitive processes and how people acquire and process information. Specific cognitive styles like knowing, planning, and creating are defined. The document also explores concepts like tolerance for ambiguity, locus of control, and core self-evaluations in relation to self-awareness.
This document discusses public awareness and environmental issues. It aims to expose the reader to concepts of public awareness, education, and communication regarding the environment. It discusses reasons for environmental degradation like air, water, and sound pollution. The document also notes that the environment is changing in ways that will affect how people live, such as potential shortages of oil and natural gas, and rising sea levels from climate change. It stresses the need for more sustainable living.
Liposomes and liposomal drug delivery system( recent advancement)Unmesh Bhamare

The presentation covers the structural components of liposomes including commonly used phospholipids, classification based on lamellarity and size, various preparation methods such as mechanical dispersion, solvent dispersion, and detergent removal. It also discusses characterization, stability considerations, applications in drug delivery, recent advances, and some marketed liposome products.
This document discusses the importance of patient counseling by pharmacists. It notes that patient counseling is an interaction where the pharmacist provides the patient with information about their health condition and medications. The main goals of counseling are to ensure the patient understands how to take their medications safely and knows the purpose and expected outcomes of treatment. Counseling benefits patients through improved compliance and satisfaction, as well as benefiting pharmacists by strengthening their professional roles and relationships with patients.
5S is the name of a workplace organization method that uses a list of five Japanese words: seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, and shitsuke. Transliterated or translated into English, they all start with the letter "S". The list describes how to organize a work space for efficiency and effectiveness by identifying and storing the items used, maintaining the area and items, and sustaining the new order.
The document discusses patient counseling, which involves providing information, advice, and assistance to help patients appropriately use their medications. The objectives of patient counseling are to improve patient understanding of their illness and medications, enhance medication adherence, and improve health outcomes. Effective counseling requires strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal. Barriers to counseling can include environmental factors, semantics, negative attitudes, and time constraints. The pharmacist's role is to counsel patients on medication names, uses, dosages, side effects and more to optimize treatment.
Patient counseling involves providing patients with information about their medications, including how to take them properly, potential side effects, and lifestyle changes. The goal is to improve patient understanding and adherence to treatment regimens. Effective counseling establishes a relationship of trust, assesses the patient's needs and concerns, and ensures they comprehend key points about managing their condition and medications. The counseling process involves private discussions that cover topics like dosage, benefits, interactions, and storage in a way patients can understand.
This document discusses different types of counselling:
1) Directive counselling is counsellor-centered where the counsellor directs the client to resolve issues by informing and advising them.
2) Non-directive counselling is client-centered where the counsellor creates an environment for the client to work out their own problems through free expression of feelings and developing insight.
3) Eclectic counselling combines elements of directive and non-directive counselling by taking a flexible middle approach depending on the client and situation. The counsellor plays an active but not overbearing role.
