VIN is a non-profit organization working in Nepal to empower marginalized communities, with a focus on women and children. It operates integrated community development programs in the areas of women's empowerment, youth empowerment, child development, and community health in the rural community of Jitpurphedi. VIN aims to improve lives through education, training, infrastructure projects, and promoting equality, economic well-being, and basic human rights.

- >80% Hindus, ~10% Buddhist Nepal’s Central Bureau of Statistics projects population now over 30 million.
- HDI = Human Development Index: a composite statistic used as an index to rank countries by level of "human development“. The statistic is composed from statistics for Life Expectancy, Education, and GDP collected at the national level. Political situation: very little danger to tourists despite occasional strikes.
- VDC = village development committee: the lower administrative part of Nepal’s local development ministry. Each district has several VDCs , similar to municipalities but with greater public-government interaction and administration. There are 3,913 village development committees in Nepal. A VDC is further divided into wards, the number depending on the population of the district, the average is nine wards.
- Youth club target – 150 members Community volunteer target – 50 people
- CLC 2010 budget = half the budgeted cost to construct the centre (excluding fit out) Overheads include staff salaries – the staff run many of the training sessions and make other contributions to the community programs. Volunteer funds based on 100x 1 month volunteers (vs. 65 volunteers for various durations in 2009). Sponsorship based on 18 full and partial child sponsors (full = US$230pa).
- VIN needs about 150 volunteers per year. We can manage at any one time: 10 in ECD, 10 teaching in schools, 5 for women's empowerment, 2 for youth development, 6 for orphanages, 3 for children‘s clubs and 4 for community volunteering program. In external programs we can take: 12 monastery volunteers and 12 journalism volunteers, at an time. 10 months is the longest stay possible on a tourist visa if you arrive in August (less if you arrive at other times).
