In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.

Stay Connected with Twitter -Submitted by Andrew Reeves @greeneggs_drew
The social media service Twitter is a great way to share and stay connected with your
church family and the wider family of God. I would like to encourage those of you
currently using Twitter to share the work of God in your life using the hashtag
#stnicksbc. For more information, talk (or tweet) with Andrew Reeves.
Do you Speak a Language other than English? If so, we have a special opportunity
for you... On Sunday, May 19th we will be celebrating the Feast of Pentecost. One of
our readings for that day, from Acts 2, emphasizes that as Peter preached each person
who listened to him heard Peter in their own language. To help bring the passage to
life, we would like to invite those who speak different languages to read a verse or two
of that passage. If you are willing to help, please contact Janet Baron in the Church
Office at 416-691-0449 or by email at office@stnicholasbirchcliff.com Thank you for
your help.
The St. Nick’s Knights softball season begins on Tuesday, at North Bridlewood Park,
off Pharmacy, north of Sheppard. Game time is 7:00pm The full schedule, and
directions to parks, is available at SAYMsoftball.com. If you are 13 or over (even way
over!) you are invited to join the team. There are no try-outs, everyone qualifies - great
skill is not necessary, if you can hit, catch and throw the ball, you’ll fit in just fine!
Perhaps just as enjoyable as playing on the team, is being a spectator. If you don’t
want to play, come on out and cheer for our team.
Ascension Day Service Please join us on Thursday May 9th at 7:30pm as we
celebrate Jesus’ Ascension.
Farewell Reception for the Reverend Dr. Alison Falby – Sunday June 2nd,

as Incumbent of St. Martin’s Bay Ridges on July 8th. Her service of Induction will take
place at St. Martin’s on September 22 at 4:00pm. Please uphold Alison in your prayers
during this transition.
Kitchen Shower- Wow!! What a great response
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the kitchen shower. For those of you
who have not had an opportunity yet, there are still some items remaining to be
purchased. A pictorial wish list is posted in Robinson Hall showing the items needed
with their prices. Just choose which item you would like to donate, fill out the
corresponding envelope and enclose the listed amount of money, (you can go
together with someone). Members of the outreach committee will do all of the
shopping and the items will be purchased on your behalf. The Outreach Committee
will be sponsoring a special coffee hour on the 26th of May to thank everyone for
their donations. At this time all the donated items will be on display. If you have any
questions please speak to Pauline Glasgow, Sonia Halloran or Deb Chapman.
Garden Lovers Have Rake will help. If you could help out with a spring spruce up
of the garden, please contact Sonia at 416-698-9449 or shalloran@rogers.com. We

would be willing to help on an ongoing basis, speak to Sonia.
