Rev. Janet is available for conversations about life or faith, and to respond to
pastoral situations and pastoral emergencies. Please don’t hesitate to contact her via
email at jrh@stnicholasbirchcliff.com or by calling the church office at 416-691-0449
ext. 223 or in the case of an emergency at 416-648-1418.
Due to our much improved sound system, the technician who installed it has
suggested that people who wear hearing aids may need to turn them down or even
off during services.
Our Harvest Thanksgiving service will be on October 13th, and the Altar Guild will
be decorating the church with fruit and vegetables. After the service on Sunday, all
of the produce will be taken to a local women’s shelter. If you would like to contribute
some fruit and/or vegetables, please bring them Saturday morning, October 12, by
9:30a.m. Thank you very much.
Join us this coming Wednesday, September 18th for the 10am service when
our guest preacher will be The Reverend Jo-Anne Billinger. Jo-Anne was a
parishioner and choir member here at St. Nicholas for many years before
following the call to ordained ministry.
Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre offers a number of special
programs and activities. There are several flyers on the bulletin board listing
programs that are being offered: a euchre and games afternoon, some cooking
classes and a 6 week workshop on living with chronic pain. If you think you might
be interested in any of these, have a look at the flyers for more information.
The Blessing of the Animals Service, in Honour of St. Francis of Assisi, will
take place on Sunday, October 6th at 4 p.m. All creatures great and small, and
their owners, are invited to attend this special service!
The monthly Card Party begins this coming Thursday at 1:00p.m. in Robinson Hall.
Come out and enjoy an afternoon of cards, fellowship and refreshments.
WHEN WOMEN READ THE BIBLE is the topic of the Women’s Breakfast at Wycliffe
College (5 Hoskin Avenue) on Saturday September 21st from 9:30-11:30 a.m.. They
would be glad to welcome all women from St. Nick’s for breakfast and conversation
with Mama Rhoda, Priest of the Anglican Church of Kenya and Prof. Marion Taylor.
Please see the poster on the Manderley bulletin board for more details.
Did you sign up to take the bus to Rev. Alison’s Induction at St. Martin’s on
Sunday September 22nd? If so please see Janet Baron to pay the $10.00 per
person fee. There are 8 seats left, so it’s not too late to join us. Speak to Janet
also about that.
Why has the response to the readings changed? Through the season of
Pentecost, the Reader’s proclamation “The Word of the Lord” has been changed to
“Listen to what the Spirit is saying to the Churches.” The phrase “Listen to what
the Spirit is saying to the Churches” comes from the Book of Revelation. It serves as
a reminder and witness to the power of the Spirit at work in our life calling us to new
awareness of God’s word, activity and salvation.
Have you ever wished you had the opportunity to be a Server, Crucifer or
Torchbearer? If this is something you have always wanted to do, or even if you haven’t
really thought about it before, this is an invitation to any parishioners to speak to Rev’d
Janet by phone or e-mail at jrh@stnicholasbirch.com. The time commitment would be
once every 3 or 4 weeks.

This year the Bazaar is adding a new item. Meat Pies. We are looking for people
to help make them. If you would like to attend a workshop and help make the
meat pies please sign up on the Manderley bulletin board.
Date: Saturday October 5th @ 10:30am in the church kitchen following the
Parish Breakfast.
Choir practice has begun, and we would love to have some new members.
If you’ve thought you might like to join, but are not quite sure about it, here’s an
opportunity to give it a try.
We’d like to have a few more singers for the Service of Lessons and Carols on
December 15th. If you would like to be a part of that one service, come to choir
practice on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm, and we’ll start practice by working on
the pieces for the Carol Service. We’ll finish up with the music for the coming
Sunday, and you’re welcome to stay, or you could leave at that time.
If you find that you really enjoy being part of the group, you might like to join us on
a regular basis!
For more info, speak to Bill Goodfellow.
