This document discusses the concept, composition, angle, and editing of a photographic image intended to connect the audience to the subject and make them feel compassion. The medium-close up portrait shows the subject's head turned downwards to appear defeated. Bars of a cage frame the subject and add to the effect while the angle allows viewers to empathize. Editing in black and white removed color and changed the message to seem more meaningless. Mask and eye drop tools were used to emphasize red details like blood and lips to contrast with the surreal, angelic face and further the message relating to animal skinning.

1. INITIAL CONCEPTS
The concept for this image was the same as the previous enlargement however
this image is more intimate that the last one as it is a medium-close-up of the
subject. Thus the audience may feel more connect to the subject.
COMPOSITION
I considered the composition of this image thoroughly so that the audience
would feel compassion for the subject. For instance, the subjects head it turned
and is facing downwards which makes the subject look defeated and ashamed. I
also wanted it too appear as if the subject is looking at the blood and bruises on
her shoulders and wondering what 'she' did to deserve it. This relates highly to
my theme of animal skins/fur and how skinning animals of their fur and skins
has evolved into something that people are so nonchalant about.
ANGLE
The angle for this image is again a 'point of view' angle which means that the
audience areare able to empathize with the subject and the message that is being
put across. The subjects face is also half turned away from the camera which
again forces the audience to look to at the image closely to try to understated
why the subject is not giving direct eye contact to the camera/viewer. As this
shot is medium close-up I wanted the subjects face to be immaculate to draw a
comparison between the surrealism of the subjects face and the message that I
am trying to put across; the subject looks 'doll like' and not real just like how
people choose to believe that nothing 'bad' really happens to the animals who
are skinned.
IMPROVEMENTS
Despite the fact that i like the composition of this image and the way that it is
displayed to the audience i still believe that there are improvements that could
have been made. For instance, i think that although the bars of the cage add to
the effect of the image i still think that they almost get in the way of the subjects
face and expression. As well as this the subjects top is also showing in the image
which i think ruins the atmosphere slightly however there was not a lot i could
do about that aspect of the image.
BLACK AND WHITE
This is an image whichi edited alongside editing the original image; i did it as an
experiment to see how the different colors of the original image would look in
grey, black and white. I also wanted to see if changing the main colour scheme
would change the message of the image slightly.
After I had edited the original image to make the final image i made a duplicate
image and started to play around with the grey scale. After my first couple of
contact sheets i began searching different artists to do with my theme and ifound

2. a women called Gillian Lambert and she has inspired edit and she is also the
artist that i am going to base my next set of contact sheets on.
I really like this edit simply because it, i believe, changes the message slightly and
ironically makes the image look like more of a 'fashion' image. just by removing
the red from the image almost makes the image seem meaningless. What i found
from this experiment is that colour really bring my message to life and makes the
audience more aware of the message that i am trying to display.
ORIGINAL IMAGE
I used the mask tool on Photoshop quite a lot for this image; I singled out the
'blood' on the subjects neck using the mask tool so that i could make the blood
look more red and drastic, thus expressing my message more. I also used the
mask to draw red lipstick on the subjects lips, which provided a contrast with the
'blood' on the subjects neck.
The 'eye drop' tool was another editing tool whichi used for this image. Along
with the pain brush this tool helped be make the subjects face look surreal and
angelic. This is the tool i feel helped me most when trying to make my image
more relative to my message; i have explained why this is in my latter annotation
of the final version of this image.
This is the original image which is just slightly different form the final version. I
have just edited some aspects of the image on Photoshop to make my image
more relative to the message that i am trying to put across as well as my theme.
