1. Luders, Joseph E. The Civil Rights Movement and the Logic of Social Change. Cambridge;
New York;: Cambridge University Press, 2010. Web.
Luder’s book offers information on racism and the social issues at hand. The book
examines the success and the failure of social movements. It also focuses on protests and
affected bystanders to explain the outcomes of social movements. The main idea of this
book is to tell why movements happen as well as why and how they succeed or fail.
This source is very useful in determining whether or not “Black Lives Matter” is an
actual movement or not. It is technically out-of-date but I think the book is still relevant
to the topic. The book is also very reliable, it has pages upon pages of citations. The
author is an associate professor in political science so he knows what he is talking about.
His purpose is to inform and educate students, specialists in a profession and scholars
about this topic.
This source is useful to this assignment and class because it speaks about what makes a
movement and what does not. He is unbiased on the topic so he provides an equal
viewpoint of what makes something a movement and what does not.
2. Armstrong, Ari. "Smith College President Says "all Lives Matter"; Racist Left Goes
Ballistic." The Objective Standard 10.1 (2015): 88. Web.

This article by Armstrong was written to prove to others that not only blacks are being
discriminated against. This article tells us how white males are being persecuted for
these shooting which is also racism. Armstrong adds facts that support his argument
such as more whites were shot than blacks in one year.
This text is that is from a scholarly journal is peer reviewed. Armstrong is a writer and
has written many articles and one book. He has a pretty firm belief that all lives matter.
This article is a great article for our assignment because it tells how we are focusing this
problem on white people being racist towards blacks but we are forgetting the racism
towards whites. This article proves that each race is being discriminated equally.
3. O'Dougherty, Thomas. "Black Lives Matter to Me: A White Guy in Baltimore Sets Out to
Find the Meaning Behind the Social Movement." The Baltimore Sun 2016. Web.
O’Dougherty’s writes about how he is understanding when it comes to the loss the black
community has suffered but sees no need to be racist towards white men. He makes a
good point that the issue is not just “black lives matter” but the fact that there is no
unification among blacks and whites. Many are still bitter over what happened and is
happening but that does not make it right for anyone to be racist.
This article is very informative as to what is going on that we cannot see. He opens some
people’s eyes by sharing his experience and his sources to show that all lives matter.
I think that this article could be very helpful to our argument because it shows that
“black lives matter” should not be a movement. It also shows that there is a background
to the fact there are all of these social issues.

4. Plummer, Deborah L. "Why I have White Friends: Now More than Ever, as Black Lives
Matter Protests Rage on, we Need Social Networks Filled with People Who Don't Look Like
Us." Boston Globe: R.19. 2015. Web.
This article is very informative and also tries to prove a point. Plummer discusses how
people are getting judged by black people because they act “too white.” So while the
white people have nothing to do with the shooting in general they are getting condemned
for their color as well. She tells a story of a girl who she is no longer friends with
because she got told she was not acting black but acting white.
This article is very reliable and was written to inform people that blacks are being racist
against white people as well.
I think that this article could definitely be used in our debate because of the information
it provides. It allows people to understand that there is not only one color that is
discriminated. This article allows for the argument that everyone is discriminated against
and sometimes white people feel just as discriminated against as blacks.
5. Lawson, Kenneth. "Police Shootings of Black Men and Implicit Racial Bias: Can't we all just
Get Along." The University of Hawaii Law Review 37.2 (2015): 339. Web.
Lawson’s article talks about everything, from what happened with black slavery back in
the day to the racial issues that are happening now. This article describes why blacks
feel the need to defend themselves but Lawson does not see an actual good reason for
them doing so. He thinks that both parties are at fault and that it should not get out of
hand like it has. The article shares some of his life experiences and how he can see why
blacks think that some people are racist (which some police officers are). But he shares
that the main problem is the government giving them the ability to think that. Everyone
4
should be able to trust a cop, not be scared of them. The government should make these
areas safe to every one of every color and not hire a racist or in fact hire more people of
color.
This article is very reliable and has many sources. His article seems to be unbiased for
the most part and more factual.
I think this article would be great to use because he actually has been through situations
with racism and can say for himself that it is caused by the government. It has a great
overview of how he thinks blacks should defend themselves but not to the point of being
racial to other colors.
After doing this project my views have not changed. I can understand the other point of
view but whether we like it or not there is racism in this country. Blacks often tend to set
themselves out and make themselves feel like they are being discriminated against and that will
never change. Therefore racism will always exist. Blacks will always have these movements.
And yes, all lives matter but blacks think theirs matter more and they do at this point in time do
to the fact that us whites are trying to make up for what happened back in the day of our
grandparents. But until racism stops, which it never will, that is when these issues will go away
(never).
