Until recently, it was possible to condemn criminologists both for their near silence on women and criminal law, and for their sexism when they did speak. The most recent wave of feminism has witnessed two seemingly contradictory developments in theories of women and crime. First, femi-nism has kindled interest in women's studies in various academic disci-plines. Criminology has been no exception: the sexist treatment of women victims and offenders by police and other criminal justice officials, the sex-ism of traditional theories of crime, and the concept of victimless crimes have all been under attack.' But, there have also been arguments that women's crime has increased as a result of the women's liberation movement. This belief has been called "the most powerful and widely held ... concerning the topic of female criminality," and its impact has been felt by women offenders being pun-ished for their supposed acts of liberation.' Feminist criminologists now must do more than denounce mainstream criminology for its failure to ac-knowledge the significance of female crime. It is not enough simply to resurrect the neglected female offender. We must transcend the traditional boundaries of criminology and examine the role of the state and the law in reinforcing the position of women in contemporary society.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Do “Black Lives Matter”: An Annotated Bibliography
Cullors, Patrisse, Opal Tometi, and Alicia Garza. "Black Lives Matter." Black Lives Matter.
Haki Creatives Design for Social Change. Web. 10 Feb. 2016.
The source was created by the founders of the “Black Lives Matter” movement. The
three black women have at least one college degree. The purpose of the website is to make it
relatively easy to connect within the “black” community. It is intended to let other organizations
like their own to know what is going own with in the continuation of the civil rights movement.
The website is to help encourage the ideas they have and to influence others on the ideas they
hold. The website is indeed very bias because what goes on the website is controlled and only
promotes their own ideas and feelings. When you go to the website you can learn for the most
part what the organization is about and some of the people involved. You can also see “twitter”
activity and “facebook” activity that pertains to the issue. Also, you can contact the organization
through the website and make donations by way of the website.

life span while being gay and black in a society that doesn’t really accept either of those
qualities. Patrisse is also the founder and still an active board member of the organization
“Dignity and Power Now”. That organization focuses on fighting the power of incarcerated
people, their families, and communities. She is also the director for truth and reinvestment at the
“Ella Baker Center for Human Rights”. This focuses on the advances of racial and economic
justice to ensure dignity and opportunity for low-income people and people of color. She is also
active in an organization called “Black Organization for Leadership and Dignity”. This is a
national leadership training program designed to help rebuild black social justice infrastructure in
order to organize black communities more effectively and re-center black leadership in the U.S.
social justice movement. When Patrisse was 22 years old, she also received the “Mario Savio
Young Activist Award”. This award is a $6,000 prize selected from aplicants ranging from 18-
26 years of age. The cash is split between the winner and the organization of their choosing. In
order to win the, the applicant must show a significance in being deeply committed to human
rights and social justice- which obviously she is.
Ghandnoosh, Nazgol, Ph D. Black Lives Matter: Eliminating Racial Inequity in the Criminal
Justice System. Washington: Sentencing Project, 2015. Print.
This book gives great detail about how criminal justice is not equal within the states.
There is a great deal of statistics used to support the fact that black people are arrested or seen as
more suspicious than white people. Stories and examples are given in this book of different
scenarios where black people are arrested or searched when they don’t need to be. The purpose
of this book is to persuade or inform people on how we as a country could change the way we
practice law and how we enforce it based on race. As of when this book was written, black

people have been unfairly arrested sometimes even without a warrant. This book wants people to
realize just how extreme our law enforcement towards certain races has become.

Feb. 2016.
This article written by Simon is very deep. It mainly tells the story of many black U.S.
citizen that were viciously killed. This article is definitely on the side of African Americans
stating that they have had to constantly worry all their lives “whether police will kill their loved
ones”. The people’s death stories mentioned in this article are just a short list of the families
whos worries actually came true. The first person mentioned was Amadou Diallo. He was just
trying to go into his apartment building when he was shot 41 times by NYPD member Kenneth
Boss. The cop claimed he was reaching for a weapon but the only thing found on the victims
body was a wallet. In 2012 the cop was back on the task force being permitted to again carry a
gun. Another person mention in the article was Aiyana Stanley-Jones. At 7 years old a Detroit
SWAT team threw a flash grenade through her family’s window while searching for a suspect in
her neighborhood. The SWAT team stormed the house and shot the little girl in her sleep. There
was a camera crew accompanying the SWAT team and the first two times they put the case on
trails it ended in mistrials.

García, Jennifer Jee-Lyn, and Mienah Zulfacar Sharif. "Black Lives Matter: A Commentary On
Racism And Public Health." American Journal Of Public Health 105.8 (2015): e27-e30.
PsycINFO. Web. 11 Feb. 2016.
This article emphasizes the fact that while everything is going on with the police versus
blacks that nobody is looking at what it can effect medically. This article is aimed to influence
and persuade people to believe that with a public health agenda guided by the idea of equality
and social justice that it will provide promising prospects to all the inequality going on now.
They pointed out the deaths of Eric Garner (NYC) and Michael Brown (Ferguson) should remind
people of the public health society to critically evaluate the work being done, values, and the
views on racism. The people of this article strongly believe black lives do matter and that all
lives matter in fact. They believe that the field of public health can guide toward a world of
equality.
