Ancient Greece had a mountainous geography and hot, dry summers which made it suitable for farming olives and grapes. The Greeks were polytheistic and believed in gods like Zeus, Hera, Athena and Apollo. City-states like Athens and Sparta differed in their governments, economies, and the rights of men and women. Sparta focused on its military while Athens emphasized democracy, trade and education.
