4. OBJECTIVES
1. Define the structure and function of pancreas
2. Describe the cell that make up the pancreatic islets
3. Describe the mechanism of…..
4. Insulin
5. Glucagon
6. Somatostatin
5. ENDOCRINE SYSTEM
• The endocrine system is a complex network of glands and organs. It uses
hormones to control and coordinate your body's metabolism, energy level,
reproduction, growth and development.
• Pancreatic islets
• Pancreatic islets are the group of cell in our pancreas. Also known as (islets of
langerhans) the pancreas is an organ that make hormones to break down food.
• Islets include several type of cells like beta cell that form insulin hormone.
6. •Structur and function of pancreas
The pancreas is an elongated, tapered organ located across the
back of the belly, behind the stomach
The pancreas has two main functions: an exocrine
function that helps in digestion and an endocrine function
that regulates blood sugar.
As the food is digested, and nutrient levels in the blood rise,
the pancreas produces insulin to help the body store the
glucose (energy
