This document discusses Moodle implementation at MMU between 2010-2011, including: 1. Moodle was selected in 2010 to replace WebCT and integrated with Equella and Aspire. Policies were approved and unit areas/sandboxes created from 2011 onwards. 2. Moodle provides a core integrated VLE alongside other recommended and recognized tools. Digitization workflows were established to integrate reading lists between Aspire and Equella. 3. The portal was enhanced to integrate Moodle unit areas and aggregate news, with additional student-facing features planned from 2010-2012 like assignment schedules and transcripts.

Based on experience gained from a year-long pilot of Blackboard Analytics™ for Learn at Emory University, this presentation will discuss (1) several unique challenges associated with the use of Blackboard Analytics™ to monitor high performing students, (2) the value of Blackboard Analytics™ as a data warehouse against which to run custom queries and apply more sophisticated data mining techniques, and (3) several preliminary insights obtained through the application of those techniques at Emory University.

This presentation will address the latest developments in lecture capture and the way universities are using lecture capture to enhance and augment their learning offer to students. During this presentation, information about a variety of different pedagogical models will be provided related to the technical support mechanisms being put in place by universities to support such models.

A Clickstream Analytical Tool for Video Lectures

The paper presents an ongoing development of an analytical tool for the clickstreams of video lectures. This work was motivated by the increasing number of video tutorials in graphical software applications. Although the clickstreams have been used to examine students’ detailed behaviors, few analytical tools have been designed from the instructors’ viewpoint. The tool we have developed includes four major interfaces: (1) accumulated behavior, (2) individual time history, (3) video control, and (4) a note-taking area. We also designed a global time controller, which users may move in all of the interfaces except the note-taking area, thus synchronizing the time stamps among the other interfaces. An actual CAD video lecture clickstream of 53 students and 103,679 clicks was used to validate the tool. We found that the analytical tool can help identify students' behaviors.

In online study students expecting some extra guidelines from given resources. In this project we developed video annotation system for foster active learning. In this project, we achieved active participation of students. There is certain kind of technologies that extracts some important keywords from textual information. MOOC‘s model is another technology to solve interaction problem of users in active learning. It also has limitations that it suffered from the problem of gamification. Our system is interactive as it provides real-time annotations to the video. In our system user can give their active participation as they have direct interaction to our system. As part of our contribution in this project we did SVM analysis to provide recommended videos for end users. SVM is Support Vector Machine algorithm; it classifies the things according to user interest. So, in our system user can search for video and they get recommended video list for their study.

Using Metrics and Cluster Analysis in Video Based Learning

They may be used heuristically as a way of evaluating general interaction patterns, but are not meant to provide granular intelligence about viewing activity.

Course-Level Analytics: Echo Center Reports Student Aggregate (By Student) Unique Views - the number of different Echoes the student has viewed Cumulative Views - the total number of Echoes the student has viewed Completion - average completion rate for all Echoes viewed (a proxy for engagement) Bookmarks - number of bookmarks posted for all Echoes Discussions - number of discussion topics posted for all Echoes Downloads - shows if student downloads an Echo rather than streaming it (interactions are not collected for downloaded Echo content) Live Views - number of times a student attended a live webcast rather than attend in class Last Viewed - most recent Echo viewed by the student Date Viewed - date a student last viewed any Echo CAUTION Student Aggregate report displays user activity for all possible echoes, and not just echoes related to a specific class, which makes it difficult to compare users (i.e. these are poor proxies for engagement)
