This document reports a case study of a 45-year-old male patient who accidentally aspirated a dental root canal instrument during a dental procedure. The instrument lodged in his right main bronchus. Rigid bronchoscopy was performed and the instrument was successfully removed. Chest x-rays confirmed the presence of the radiopaque foreign body in the right main bronchus. Dental instruments are a common cause of foreign body aspiration that can lead to complications if not addressed. Early diagnosis and removal of aspirated foreign bodies is important to prevent damage to the bronchus and lungs.

The document discusses the management of oro-craniofacial abnormalities, which have increased in incidence over recent decades. A multidisciplinary team approach is needed to diagnose and treat these deformities, which usually begin at birth and may continue into a patient's 20s. Treatment involves various surgical and non-surgical procedures at different ages, with the overall goals of improving patient aesthetics, confidence, and quality of life.
Objective: The purpose of the present study was to analyze the facial asymmetry systematically using the cephalometric method, so as to demonstrate the difference on both sides of Hemifacial microsomia(HFM) in adult.
Study Design: Twelve adults of HFM were chosen, and the muscles and velocity of conduction of facial nerve were measured using the electromyographic machine. We collected all the patients' cephalometric radiographs in the anterior and posterior projections and analysed the size and symmetry of orbit, maxilla and mandible.

A 9-year-old boy accidentally aspirated a root canal instrument during a dental procedure. He experienced coughing and difficulty breathing. Chest x-rays revealed a foreign object lodged in his subglottis region. During rigid bronchoscopy under general anesthesia, the root canal instrument was identified as the foreign body and successfully removed. Dental instruments are a common cause of foreign body aspiration, especially when proper isolation techniques are not followed during dental work. Early diagnosis and removal of aspirated objects is important to prevent complications.

A clinical and cost benefit evaluation of five facebows.Luis Carpio Moreno
This study evaluated 5 facebows - the Snow facebow (traditional) and 4 newer earpiece-type facebows (Artex 3-D, Spring-bow, Quick, Whip-Mix Quickmount). 25 dentists performed registrations with each facebow and rated them. The Artex 3-D was easiest and fastest but most expensive. The Quick was favored for its design and cost benefits. Overall, the earpiece-type facebows were superior to the Snow due to being simpler, faster, and preferred by dentists.
Combined orthodontic and prosthetic therapy special considerations.(52)Abu-Hussein Muhamad
Agenesis, the absence of permanent teeth, is a common occurrence among dental patients. The total incidence of tooth agenesis is about 4.2% among patients that are seeking orthodontic treatment and with the exception of third molars, the maxillary lateral incisors are the most common congenitally missing teeth with about a 2% incidence. The maxillary lateral incisor is the second most common congenitally absent tooth. There are several treatment options for replacing the missing maxillary lateral incisor, including canine substitution, tooth-supported restoration, or single-tooth implant. Dental implants are an appropriate treatment option for replacing missing maxillary lateral incisor teeth in adolescents when their dental and skeletal development is complete. This case report presents the treatment of a patient with congenitally missing maxillary lateral incisor using dental implants. The paper discusses the aspects of pre-prosthetic orthodontic diagnosis and the treatment that needs to be considered with conservative and fixed prosthetic replacement.

4250 patients . This study comprises data from patients who attended the O.P.D.2200 patients between Jun. 2006 to Dec
2013. Patients were examined in order to detect the impacted maxillary canines by intraoral examination, palpation, dental
records and followed by radiographs. It was found that the prevalence of canine impaction was 0,8 % (N=4250), 1,6
(N=2200), 43,9 (N-82) in males and 1,1% (N=4250), 2,1 (N=2200), 56,1 (N-82) in females suggesting that prevalence of
impacted maxillary canines is more in females than males and it is statistically significant. The overall prevalence for
maxillary impacted canines was found to be 3,7 % (N=2200) which suggested that it is much higher than previous studies.
The results of this study were slightly different than other studies, while the dissimilarities may be attributed to the sample
selection, method of the study and area of patient selection, which suggest racial and genetic differences.

This document discusses the all-on-four approach for maxillary rehabilitation. It presents a case study of a 55-year-old woman who had an atrophied maxilla with little posterior bone, so split crest technique with piezosurgery was used to insert wider implants on the left anterior maxilla. The all-on-four concept provides edentulous patients a fixed full-arch prosthesis immediately after surgery using two straight implants in the front and two angled implants in the back. Studies have shown all-on-four to be a cost-effective treatment with decreased treatment times and improved patient quality of life compared to other approaches.

This document discusses surgical techniques for reconstructing auricular defects of different sizes. It summarizes the experience of surgeons in treating 75 patients over 10 years. For defects less than one-fourth the vertical ear size, primary closure is sufficient. For larger defects up to three-fourths the size, a reversed retroauricular flap is often used successfully. For defects exceeding three-fourths the size, an implant-retained prosthesis is preferred. The location, size, and tissue involved in the defect, as well as the patient's condition, determine the most appropriate reconstruction method.

The Chimeric technique for Asian rhinoplasty aims to control final radix position and preserve the nasal profile. It involves using a composite silicone-PTFE implant with a glabellar component made of cartilage or PTFE. 49 patients underwent rhinoplasty with or without the Chimeric technique. Those who received the Chimeric technique had a more favorable horizontal vector of radix position change compared to the traditional technique, which resulted in a more vertical vector and potential for an elevated radix deformity. The Chimeric technique helps maintain a natural nasal profile during augmentation rhinoplasty.

This study evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and panoramic radiography in predicting exposure of the inferior alveolar nerve during third molar extraction surgery. The study assessed 59 impacted third molar extraction sites, examining pre-operative panoramic and CBCT images for signs suggesting nerve exposure. During surgery, actual nerve exposure was evaluated and compared to the radiographic predictions. CBCT correctly classified nerve exposure in 93.3% of cases, significantly more accurately than panoramic radiography which correctly classified 67.7% of cases. CBCT demonstrated high sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values, while panoramic radiography had lower sensitivity but high positive predictive value. This study indicates CB

This study analyzed over 21,000 office-based cataract surgeries performed between 2011-2014 to evaluate safety and effectiveness outcomes. Key findings include:
1) Post-operative visual acuity was excellent, with a mean of 20/28.
2) Intraoperative complications like capsule tears and vitreous loss occurred in 0.55% and 0.34% of cases respectively.
3) Postoperative adverse events like iritis and corneal edema each affected around 1-2% of cases. No cases of endophthalmitis were reported.
Second surgeries were required in 0.70% of cases within 6 months. The study found office-based cataract
This document summarizes a study comparing the efficacy of intranasal splints versus nasal packing in preventing post-operative nasal mucosal adhesions following septal surgery. 234 patients undergoing septal surgery were randomly assigned to have either their operated nostril packed with a silastic nasal splint plus both nostrils packed with gauze (group B, n=117), or both nostrils simply packed with gauze (group A, n=117). The incidence of post-operative nasal adhesions was found to be significantly lower in group B (3.42%) compared to group A (13.68%), indicating intranasal splints are more effective than nasal packing alone at preventing adhesions.
This study examined 406 microsurgical tissue transfer cases in the head and neck region over a 13-year period. The overall flap survival rate was approximately 92%. Primary reconstructions had a significantly higher success rate than secondary reconstructions. Defect location also significantly impacted survival, with more caudal locations associated with better outcomes. Neither anticoagulation regimen nor recipient vessel system choice influenced survival rates. Microsurgical tissue transfer is a reliable reconstruction method for maxillofacial defects when aware of success factors.
This study compared the frequency of post-operative adhesions in 62 patients undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery who received either an intranasal silastic splint plus anterior nasal packing (Group A) or anterior nasal packing alone (Group B). The frequency of post-operative adhesions was significantly lower in Group A (0%) compared to Group B (16.1%). Across age, gender, and symptom duration subgroups, adhesion rates remained significantly lower in patients receiving silastic splints. The study concludes that silastic splints are effective in reducing post-operative adhesions after endoscopic sinus surgery.
This study compared the effectiveness of Hawley retainers and two protocols for vacuum-formed retainers (VFRs) in maintaining orthodontic treatment results. 90 patients were randomly assigned to receive either a Hawley retainer, VFRs worn for 4 months full-time then nightly, or VFRs worn for 1 week full-time then nightly. Models at debond and 4 and 8 months post-treatment showed the Hawley group had significantly greater loss of upper arch length and increased crowding compared to the VFR groups, though lower arch measurements were similar. Both VFR protocols were more effective than Hawleys in maintaining the upper arch, and 4 months full-time wear provided better lower incis

This case series examines a new surgical technique for regenerating interimplant papillae using subepithelial connective tissue grafts. 10 patients with missing papillae between implant restorations received the new procedure involving buccal and palatal incisions made away from the papilla to preserve blood supply, and tunneling performed with a specialized instrument. The papillae scores improved on average from 0.8 to 2.4 after 16 months, demonstrating regeneration of the papillae over 11-30 months. However, long-term studies are still needed to validate the technique and outcomes.

This research article compares graft uptake and resorption between chin and ramal bone grafts used to reconstruct atrophic maxillary ridges for dental implant placement. 5 patients received chin grafts and 5 received ramal grafts. Cone beam CT scans after 5 months found mean resorption of 16.8% for ramal grafts and 18% for chin grafts. Ramal grafts had advantages of a minimally invasive approach, more graft volume, and less postoperative morbidity compared to chin grafts. Patient compliance was also better with ramal grafts due to less immediate postoperative pain. The survival of ramal grafts was better than chin grafts due to the higher resorption rate of chin grafts.

This document summarizes a study that assessed the knowledge of surgical errors and attitudes towards surgical safety checklists among surgical team members in Port Said public hospitals. The study found that surgical team members had very good knowledge of surgical errors and good attitudes towards surgical safety checklists. Specifically, 98.2% knew about surgical errors, and 90% stated that checklists improved team communication. However, the study had limitations as the sample size was small and most respondents were nurses from public hospitals. The conclusions recommend increasing training, reporting near misses, and emphasizing team members' safety responsibilities to further reduce errors.
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), a common type of antidepressant, were found to be linked to an increased risk of dental implant failure according to a study of 490 patients. The study showed a failure rate of 10.6% for implants in patients taking SSRIs, compared to 4.6% for patients not taking them. A separate cost-effectiveness study of surgical treatments for trigeminal neuralgia found that percutaneous stereotaxic rhizotomy (PSR) was the most cost-effective at $600 per quality adjusted life year, though it was the least commonly performed procedure.
This study retrospectively reviewed 61 patients who underwent reconstruction of oral cavity or oropharyngeal defects with a platysma myocutaneous flap (MPF) following surgery for squamous cell carcinoma. The study describes the surgical technique for harvesting the MPF based on branches of the facial artery rather than the submental artery. Tumors involved the oral cavity in 95.1% of cases. Success rate for the MPF was 93.4% with 4 patients experiencing partial skin paddle necrosis. Local recurrence occurred in 21.3% of patients. The study concludes that the MPF can be a suitable option for reconstruction of small to medium head and neck defects in selected cases as it provides good vascularization while achieving oncolog

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune DiseaseHealth Advances
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
