This document summarizes the analysis of intelligent system design using neuro-adaptive control methods. It discusses using neural networks for system identification through series-parallel and parallel models. It also discusses supervised control using a neural network trained by an expert operator, inverse control using a neural network trained on the inverse system model, and neuro-adaptive control using two neural networks - one for system identification and one for control. Neuro-adaptive control allows handling nonlinear system behavior without linear approximations.

Fall detection and fall risk assessment is used for an aging in place facility for the elderly people. It describes the silhouette extraction process, the image features , and the fuzzy clustering technique.

This study aims to determine an automatic forecasting method of univariate time series, using the nonlinear autoregressive neural network model with exogenous input (NARX). In this automatic setting, users only need to supply the input of time series. Then, an automatic forecasting algorithm sets up the appropriate features, estimate the parameters in the model, and calculate forecasts, without the users’ intervention. The algorithm method used include preprocessing, tests for trends, and the application of first differences. The time series were tested for seasonality, and seasonal differences were obtained from a successful analysis. These series were also linearly scaled to [−1, +1]. The autoregressive lags and hidden neurons were further selected through the stepwise and optimization algorithms, respectively. The 20 NARX models were fitted with different random starting weights, and the forecasts were combined using the ensemble operator, in order to obtain the final product. This proposed method was applied to real data, and its performance was compared with several available automatic models in the literature. The forecasting accuracy was also measured by mean squared error (MSE) and mean absolute percent error (MAPE), and the results showed that the proposed method outperformed the other automatic models.

Efficient decentralized iterative learning tracker for unknown sampled data i...ISA Interchange
In this paper, an efficient decentralized iterative learning tracker is proposed to improve the dynamic performance of the unknown controllable and observable sampled-data interconnected large-scale state-delay system, which consists of NN multi-input multi-output (MIMO) subsystems, with the closed-loop decoupling property. The off-line observer/Kalman filter identification (OKID) method is used to obtain the decentralized linear models for subsystems in the interconnected large-scale system. In order to get over the effect of modeling error on the identified linear model of each subsystem, an improved observer with the high-gain property based on the digital redesign approach is developed to replace the observer identified by OKID. Then, the iterative learning control (ILC) scheme is integrated with the high-gain tracker design for the decentralized models. To significantly reduce the iterative learning epochs, a digital-redesign linear quadratic digital tracker with the high-gain property is proposed as the initial control input of ILC. The high-gain property controllers can suppress uncertain errors such as modeling errors, nonlinear perturbations, and external disturbances (Guo et al., 2000) [18]. Thus, the system output can quickly and accurately track the desired reference in one short time interval after all drastically-changing points of the specified reference input with the closed-loop decoupling property.

Neural networks have attractiveness to several researchers due to their great closeness to the structure of the brain, their characteristics not shared by many traditional systems. An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is a network of interconnected artificial processing elements (called neurons) that co-operate with one another in order to solve specific issues. ANNs are inspired by the structure and functional aspects of biological nervous systems. Neural networks, which recognize patterns and adopt themselves to cope with changing environments. Fuzzy inference system incorporates human knowledge and performs inferencing and decision making. The integration of these two complementary approaches together with certain derivative free optimization techniques, results in a novel discipline called Neuro Fuzzy. In Neuro fuzzy development a specific approach is called Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS), which has shown significant results in modeling nonlinear functions. The basic idea behind the paper is to design a system that uses a fuzzy system to represent knowledge in an interpretable manner and have the learning ability derived from a Runge-Kutta learning method (RKLM) to adjust its membership functions and parameters in order to enhance the system performance. The problem of finding appropriate membership functions and fuzzy rules is often a tiring process of trial and error. It requires users to understand the data before training, which is usually difficult to achieve when the database is relatively large. To overcome these problems, a hybrid of Back Propagation Neural network (BPN) and RKLM can combine the advantages of two systems and avoid their disadvantages.

Image segmentation is a fundamental operation in image processing, which consists to di-vide an image in the homogeneous region for helping a human to analyse image, to diagnose a disease and take the decision. In this work, we present a comparative study between two iterative estimator algorithms such as EM (Expectation-Maximization) and ICE (Iterative Conditional Estimation) according to the complexity, the PSNR index, the SSIM index, the error rate and the convergence. These algorithms are used to segment brain tumor Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) images, under Hidden Markov Chain with Indepedant Noise (HMC-IN). We apply a final Bayesian decision criteria MPM (Marginal Posteriori Mode) to estimate a final configuration of the resulted image X. The experimental results show that ICE and EM give the same results in term of the quality PSNR index, SSIM index and error rate, but ICE converges to a solution faster than EM. Then, ICE is more complex than EM.
X-TREPAN : A Multi Class Regression and Adapted Extraction of Comprehensible ...csandit
In this work, the TREPAN algorithm is enhanced and extended for extracting decision trees
from neural networks. We empirically evaluated the performance of the algorithm on a set of
databases from real world events. This benchmark enhancement was achieved by adapting
Single-test TREPAN and C4.5 decision tree induction algorithms to analyze the datasets. The
models are then compared with X-TREPAN for comprehensibility and classification accuracy.
Furthermore, we validate the experimentations by applying statistical methods. Finally, the
modified algorithm is extended to work with multi-class regression problems and the ability to
comprehend generalized feed forward networks is achieved.
Simulation and stability analysis of neural network based control scheme for ...ISA Interchange
This paper proposes a new adaptive neural network based control scheme for switched linear systems with parametric uncertainty and external disturbance. A key feature of this scheme is that the prior information of the possible upper bound of the uncertainty is not required. A feedforward neural network is employed to learn this upper bound. The adaptive learning algorithm is derived from Lyapunov stability analysis so that the system response under arbitrary switching laws is guaranteed uniformly ultimately bounded. A comparative simulation study with robust controller given in [Zhang L, Lu Y, Chen Y, Mastorakis NE. Robust uniformly ultimate boundedness control for uncertain switched linear systems. Computers and Mathematics with Applications 2008; 56: 1709–14] is presented.
Intelligent Controller Design for a Chemical ProcessCSCJournals
Abstract - Chemical process control is a challenging problem due to the strong on-line non-linearity and extreme sensitivity to disturbances of the process. Ziegler – Nichols tuned PI and PID controllers are found to provide poor performances for higher-order and non–linear systems. This paper presents an application of one-step-ahead fuzzy as well as ANFIS (adaptive-network-based fuzzy inference system) tuning scheme for an Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor CSTR process. The controller is designed based on a Mamdani type and Sugeno type fuzzy system constructed to model the dynamics of the process. The fuzzy system model can take advantage of both a priori linguistic human knowledge through parameter initialization, and process measurements through on- line parameter adjustment. The ANFIS, which is a fuzzy inference system, is implemented in the framework of adaptive networks. The proposed ANFIS can construct an input-output mapping based on both human knowledge (in the form of fuzzy if-then rules) and stipulated input-output data pairs. In this method, a novel approach based on tuning of fuzzy logic control as well as ANFIS for a CSTR process, capable of providing an optimal performance over the entire operating range of process are given. Here Fuzzy logic control as well as ANFIS for obtaining the optimal design of the CSTR process is explained. In this approach, the development of rule based and the formation of the membership function are evolved simultaneously. The performance of the algorithm in obtaining the optimal tuning values has been analyzed in CSTR process through computer simulation.
There are very few examples of the use of various architectures for recurrent neural
networks to predict student learning outcomes. In fact, the only architecture used to
solve this problem is the LSTM architecture. In the works devoted to the use of LSTM
to predict educational outcomes, the results of a detailed theoretical substantiation of
the preference of this particular architecture of the RNN are not presented. In this
regard, it seems advisable to provide such justification in the framework of this study.
The main property of input data for prediction of educational outcomes is its
temporary nature. Some sequence of user actions unfolds in time and is evaluated
(classified) by an external observer as evidence of the presence or absence of an
educational result (objective or metaobjective). In this regard, the RNN used to classify
user actions should perform a procedure for adjusting the weights of neurons for a
certain set of states in the past. At the same time, the length of the sequence of these
states is not predetermined: it can be both short (for example, for objective results),
and quite long.
This paper introduces the Artifi cial Neural Networks (ANN) function to model probabilistic dependencies, in supervised classification tasks for discrimination between earthquakes and explosions problems. ANNs are regarded as the discriminating tools to classify the natural seismic events (earthquakes) from the artifi cial ones (Man-made explosions) based on the seismic signals recorded at regional distances. The bulk of our novel is to improve the obtained numerical results using this advance technique. The ANNs, by testing the different types of seismic features, showed the potential application of this method to discriminate the classes. During the above study, we found out that the Neural Networks have been used in a fully innovative manner in this work. Here the ARMA coefficients filters detects
the type of the source whenever a natural or artificial source changes the nature of the background noise of the seismograms. During the above study, we found out that this algorithm is sometimes capable to alarm the further natural seismological events just a little before the onset.

Application of Artificial Neural Network Committee Machine (ANNCM) for the inversion of magnetic
anomalies caused by a long-2D horizontal circular cylinder is presented. Although, the subsurface targets
are of arbitrary shape, they are assumed to be regular geometrical shape for convenience of mathematical
analysis. ANNCM inversion extract the parameters of the causative subsurface targets include depth to the
centre of the cylinder (Z), the inclination of magnetic vector(Ɵ)and the constant term (A)comprising the
radius(R)and the intensity of the magnetic field(I). The method of inversion is demonstrated over a
theoretical model with and without random noise in order to study the effect of noise on the technique and
then extended to real field data. It is noted that the method under discussion ensures fairly accurate results
even in the presence of noise. ANNCM analysis of vertical magnetic anomaly near Karimnagar, Telangana,
India, has shown satisfactory results in comparison with other inversion techniques that are in vogue.The
statistics of the predicted parameters relative to the measured data, show lower sum error (<9.58%) and
higher correlation coefficient (R>91%) indicating that good matching and correlation is achieved between
the measured and predicted parameters.
System for Prediction of Non Stationary Time Series based on the Wavelet Radi...IJECEIAES
This paper proposes and examines the performance of a hybrid model called the wavelet radial bases function neural networks (WRBFNN). The model will be compared its performance with the wavelet feed forward neural networks (WFFN model by developing a prediction or forecasting system that considers two types of input formats: input9 and input17, and also considers 4 types of non-stationary time series data. The MODWT transform is used to generate wavelet and smooth coefficients, in which several elements of both coefficients are chosen in a particular way to serve as inputs to the NN model in both RBFNN and FFNN models. The performance of both WRBFNN and WFFNN models is evaluated by using MAPE and MSE value indicators, while the computation process of the two models is compared using two indicators, many epoch, and length of training. In stationary benchmark data, all models have a performance with very high accuracy. The WRBFNN9 model is the most superior model in nonstationary data containing linear trend elements, while the WFFNN17 model performs best on non-stationary data with the non-linear trend and seasonal elements. In terms of speed in computing, the WRBFNN model is superior with a much smaller number of epochs and much shorter training time.

The study showed that the most appropriate model to predict the index of stock market EGX30 is the model of combination between neural networks and ARIMA models, where it gives more accurate results rather than ARIMA and ANN each separately, that is because the combination between these models combining the flexibility of the time series and the power of artificial neural networks, where one of these models compensates the shortage of the other model, further more artificial neural networks give the best prediction rather than ARIMA models in accordance with the standards of prediction accuracy MAPE and MSRE.

This paper presents a new methodology for designing a neuro-fuzzy control for complex physical systems. By developing a Neural -Fuzzy system learning with linguistic teaching signals. The advantage of this technique is that, produce a simple and well-performing system because it selects the fuzzy sets and the numerical numbers and process both numerical and linguistic information. This approach is able to process and learn numerical information as well as linguistic information. The proposed control scheme is applied to a multi-area power system with hydraulic and thermal turbines.
A Combined Model between Artificial Neural Networks and ARIMA Modelspaperpublications3
Abstract: The main objective of this study is to reach an appropriate model to predict the stock market index EGX 30. The study examined the application of the following models to predict EGX30:
•Artificial neural networks.
•ARIMA models.
•Combination between neural networks and time series analysis using observations. previous residuals and estimated values of ARIMA model.
The study showed that the most appropriate model to predict the index of stock market EGX30 is the model of combination between neural networks and ARIMA models, where it gives more accurate results rather than ARIMA and ANN each separately, that is because the combination between these models combining the flexibility of the time series and the power of artificial neural networks, where one of these models compensates the shortage of the other model, further more artificial neural networks give the best prediction rather than ARIMA models in accordance with the standards of prediction accuracy MAPE and MSRE.

This study aims to design a new architecture of the artificial neural networks (ANNs) using the Xilinx system generator (XSG) and its hardware co-simulation equivalent model using field programmable gate array (FPGA) to predict the behavior of Chua’s chaotic system and use it in hiding information. The work proposed consists of two main sections. In the first section, MATLAB R2016a was used to build a 3×4×3 feed forward neural network (FFNN). The training results demonstrate that FFNN training in the Bayesian regulation algorithm is sufficiently accurate to directly implement. The second section demonstrates the hardware implementation of the network with the XSG on the Xilinx artix7 xc7a100t-1csg324 chip. Finally, the message was first encrypted using a dynamic Chua system and then decrypted using ANN’s chaotic dynamics. ANN models were developed to implement hardware in the FPGA system using the IEEE 754 Single precision floating-point format. The ANN design method illustrated can be extended to other chaotic systems in general.
Design Nonlinear Model Reference with Fuzzy Controller for Nonlinear SISO Sec...IJECEIAES
Model reference controller is considering as one of the most useful controller to specific performance of systems where the desired output is produced for a given input. This system used the difference between the outputs of the plant and the desired model by comparing them to produce the signals of the control. This paper focus on design a model reference controller (MRC) combined with (type-1 and interval type-2) fuzzy control scheme for single input-single output (SISO) systems under uncertainty and external disturbance. The model reference controller is designed firstly without fuzzy scheme based on an optimal desired model and Lyapunov stability theory. Then a (type-1 and Interval type-2) fuzzy controller Takagi-Sugeno type is combine with the suggested MRC in order to enhance the performer of it, the common parts between the two fuzzy systems such as: fuzzifier, inference engine, fuzzy rule-base and defuzzifier are illustrated. In this paper the proposed controller is applied to controla (SISO) inverted pendulum sustem and the Matlab R2015 software is used to carry out two simulation cases for the overall controlled scheme. The obtained results for the two cases show that the proposed MRC with both fuzzy control schemes have acceptable performance, but it have better performance with the interval type-2 fuzzy scheme.

A Novel Neuroglial Architecture for Modelling Singular Perturbation System IJECEIAES
This work develops a new modular architecture that emulates a recentlydiscovered biological paradigm. It originates from the human brain where the information flows along two different pathways and is processed along two time scales: one is a fast neural network (NN) and the other is a slow network called the glial network (GN). It was found that the neural network is powered and controlled by the glial network. Based on our biological knowledge of glial cells and the powerful concept of modularity, a novel approach called artificial neuroglial Network (ANGN) was designed and an algorithm based on different concepts of modularity was also developed. The implementation is based on the notion of multi-time scale systems. Validation is performed through an asynchronous machine (ASM) modeled in the standard singularly perturbed form. We apply the geometrical approach, based on Gerschgorin’s circle theorem (GCT), to separate the fast and slow variables, as well as the singular perturbation method (SPM) to determine the reduced models. This new architecture makes it possible to obtain smaller networks with less complexity and better performance.
Development of deep reinforcement learning for inverted pendulumIJECEIAES
This paper presents a modification of the deep Q-network (DQN) in deep reinforcement learning to control the angle of the inverted pendulum (IP). The original DQN method often uses two actions related to two force states like constant negative and positive force values which apply to the cart of IP to maintain the angle between the pendulum and the Y-axis. Due to the changing of too much value of force, the IP may make some oscillation which makes the performance system could be declined. Thus, a modified DQN algorithm is developed based on neural network structure to make a range of force selections for IP to improve the performance of IP. To prove our algorithm, the OpenAI/Gym and Keras libraries are used to develop DQN. All results showed that our proposed controller has higher performance than the original DQN and could be applied to a nonlinear system.
Power system transient stability margin estimation using artificial neural ne...elelijjournal
This paper presents a methodology for estimating the normalized transient stability margin by using the multilayered perceptron (MLP) neural network. The complex relationship between the input variables and output variables is established by using the neural networks. The nonlinear mapping relation between the normalized transient stability margin and the operating conditions of the power system is established by using the MLP neural network. To obtain the training set of the neural network the potential energy boundary surface (PEBS) method along with time domain simulation method is used. The proposed method is applied on IEEE 9 bus system and the results shows that the proposed method provides fast and accurate tool to assess online transient stability.
