Improved nonlocal means based on pre classification and invariant block matchingIAEME Publication
One of the most popular image denoising methods based on self-similarity is called nonlocal
means (NLM). Though it can achieve remarkable performance, this method has a few shortcomings,
e.g., the computationally expensive calculation of the similarity measure, and the lack of reliable
candidates for some non repetitive patches. In this paper, we propose to improve NLM by integrating
Gaussian blur, clustering, and row image weighted averaging into the NLM framework.
Experimental results show that the proposed technique can perform denoising better than the original
NLM both quantitatively and visually, especially when the noise level is high.

Icamme managed brightness and contrast enhancement using adapted histogram eq...Jagan Rampalli
This document describes a new method called Controlled Contrast Modified Histogram Equalization (CCMHE) to enhance image contrast while managing brightness. CCMHE divides the input image histogram into four sub-histograms based on the median brightness value. It then applies a clipping process to prevent over-enhancement before independently equalizing each sub-histogram. CCMHE also introduces an enhancement rate parameter to control the level of contrast adjustment in the output images. The proposed method aims to produce enhanced images with improved contrast and maintained overall brightness compared to other contemporary enhancement techniques.

This enhancement will be referred to as Adaptive Pseudo-Inverse (API) through this research. Training and verification datasets have been prepared from GretagMacbeth ColorChecker CC chart, Kodak Color Chart and a specially designed palette of Japanese organic and inorganic mineral pigments to test and compare the estimation results, using the Pseudo-Inverse and Adaptive Pseudo-Inverse method. The performance of spectral reconstruction methods will be presented in terms of spectral and colorimetric error for the estimation accuracy. The experimental results showed that the proposed method achieved better performance and noticeable decline in spectral estimation error.

performance of the compression scheme. In this paper we extended the commonly used algorithms to image
compression and compared its performance. For an image compression technique, we have linked different
wavelet techniques using traditional mother wavelets and lifting based Cohen-Daubechies-Feauveau
wavelets with the low-pass filters of the length 9 and 7 (CDF 9/7) wavelet transform with Set Partition in
Hierarchical Trees (SPIHT) algorithm. A novel image quality index with highlighting shape of histogram
of the image targeted is introduced to assess image compression quality. The index will be used in place of
existing traditional Universal Image Quality Index (UIQI) “in one go”. It offers extra information about
the distortion between an original image and a compressed image in comparisons with UIQI. The proposed
index is designed based on modelling image compression as combinations of four major factors: loss of
correlation, luminance distortion, contrast distortion and shape distortion. This index is easy to calculate
and applicable in various image processing applications. One of our contributions is to demonstrate the
choice of mother wavelet is very important for achieving superior wavelet compression performances based

a significantly role in the quality evaluation of image compression on the open sources “BrainWeb:

Denoising Process Based on Arbitrarily Shaped WindowsCSCJournals
Many factors, such as moving objects, introduce noise in digital images. The presence of noise affects image quality. The image denoising process works on reconstructing a noiseless image and improving its quality. When an image has an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) then denoising becomes a challenging process. In our research, we present an improved algorithm for image denoising in the wavelet domain. Homogenous regions for an input image are estimated using a region merging algorithm. The local variance and wavelet shrinkage algorithm are applied to denoise each image patch. Experimental results based on peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) measurements showed that our algorithm provided better results compared with a denoising algorithm based on a minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimator.
Image Inpainting Using Cloning AlgorithmsCSCJournals
In image recovery image inpainting has become essential content and crucial topic in research of a new era. The objective is to restore the image with the surrounding information or modifying an image in a way that looks natural for the viewer. The process involves transporting and diffusing image information. In this paper to inpaint an image cloning concept has been used. Multiscale transformation method is used for cloning process of an image inpainting. Results are compared with conventional methods namely Taylor expansion method, poisson editing, Shepard’s method. Experimental analysis verifies better results and shows that Shepard’s method using multiscale transformation not only restores small scale damages but also large damaged area and useful in duplication of image information in an image.
Face Image Restoration based on sample patterns using MLP Neural NetworkIOSR Journals
This document presents a face image restoration method using MLP neural networks. Low resolution face images are generated from a high resolution image using an observation model. Patches are extracted from the high and low resolution images and used to train an MLP network. After training, the model can be used to restore low resolution images. The method is tested on images from the ORL database. Results show the proposed method has better performance than other methods in terms of statistical metrics and visual quality, especially when there are only geometric changes between images. When noise levels are varied, performance decreases.

Stereo matching based on absolute differences for multiple objects detectionTELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
This article presents a new algorithm for object detection using stereo camera system. The problem to get an accurate object detion using stereo camera is the imprecise of matching process between two scenes with the same viewpoint. Hence, this article aims to reduce the incorrect matching pixel with four stages. This new algorithm is the combination of continuous process of matching cost computation, aggregation, optimization and filtering. The first stage is matching cost computation to acquire preliminary result using an absolute differences method. Then the second stage known as aggregation step uses a guided filter with fixed window support size. After that, the optimization stage uses winner-takes-all (WTA) approach which selects the smallest matching differences value and normalized it to the disparity level. The last stage in the framework uses a bilateral filter. It is effectively further decrease the error on the disparity map which contains information of object detection and locations. The proposed work produces low errors (i.e., 12.11% and 14.01% nonocc and all errors) based on the KITTI dataset and capable to perform much better compared with before the proposed framework and competitive with some newly available methods.

Quality Prediction in Fingerprint CompressionIJTET Journal
A new algorithm for fingerprint compression based on sparse representation is introduced. At first, dictionary is constructed by sparse combination of set of fingerprint patches. Designing dictionaries can be done by either selecting one from a prespecified set or adapting a dictionary to a set of training signals. In this paper, we use K-SVD algorithm to construct dictionary. After computation of dictionary, the image gets quantized, filtered and encoded. The resultant image obtained may be of three qualities: Good, Bad and Ugly (GBU problem). In this paper, we overcome the GBU problem by prediction the quality of image.
Restoration of Images Corrupted by High Density Salt & Pepper Noise through A...IOSR Journals
Abstract: In this paper an efficient algorithm is proposed for removal of salt & pepper noise from digital images. Salt and pepper noise in images is present due to bit errors in transmission or introduced during the signal acquisition stage. It represents itself as randomly occurring white and black pixels. This noise can be removed using standard Median Filter (SMF), Progressive Switched Median Filter (PSMF) under low density noise conditions. Decision Based Algorithm (DBA) and Modified Decision Based Unsymmetric Trimmed Median Filter (MDBUTMF) do not give better results at high noise density. So, in this project, this drawback will be overcome by using Adaptive Median based Modified Mean Filter (AMMF). This proposed algorithm shows better Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio and clear image than the existing algorithm. This document summarizes a study on applying a modified Least Trimmed Squares with Genetic Algorithms (LTS-GAs) method to face recognition with occluded images. The method was tested on the AT&T and Yale face datasets with different image sizes and levels of added salt and pepper noise. Recognition rates generally decreased as noise levels increased. For clean images, larger AT&T images performed best, but smaller Yale images performed best for noisy images. The study concludes the modified LTS-GAs method shows potential for face recognition with occlusions, warranting further comparison against other algorithms.
Image Compression using DPCM with LMS AlgorithmIRJET Journal
1. The document describes an image compression technique using Differential Pulse Code Modulation (DPCM) with a Least Mean Squares (LMS) adaptive prediction filter.
2. DPCM transmits the difference between predicted and actual pixel values (prediction errors) rather than raw pixel values, aiming to reduce redundancy. The LMS filter adaptively updates its prediction coefficients to minimize prediction errors.
3. The technique was tested compressing a 256x256 image with 1, 2, and 3-bit quantizers. Compression performance was evaluated by measuring average squared distortion and prediction mean squared error for different bit rates. Compression improved with more bits, lowering distortion and prediction error.

problem under probability framework. To estimate the label configuration, an iterative
optimization scheme is implemented to alternately carry out the maximum a posteriori (MAP)
estimation and the maximum likelihood (ML) estimations. In this paper this technique is
modified in such a way so that it performs segmentation within stipulated time period. The
extensive experiments shows that the results obtained are comparable with existing algorithms.
This algorithm performs faster execution than the existing algorithm to give automatic
segmentation without any human intervention. Its result match image edges very closer to
human perception.

Image Filtering Using all Neighbor Directional Weighted Pixels: Optimization ...sipij
The document describes an image filtering technique that uses all neighboring directional weighted pixels in a 5x5 window to detect and filter random valued impulse noise. It uses particle swarm optimization to optimize the parameters for the detection and filtering operators. The technique detects noisy pixels using differences between pixel values aligned in four directions in the window. Filtering replaces the pixel with the value that minimizes the variance calculated from pixels in the direction with lowest variance. PSO searches a three-dimensional space of iteration number, threshold, and threshold decrease rate parameters to optimize performance for images with different noise levels. Results show it performs better than other techniques at preserving details while removing noise from highly corrupted images.
MR Image Compression Based on Selection of Mother Wavelet and Lifting Based W...ijma
Magnetic Resonance (MR) image is a medical image technique required enormous data to be stored and
transmitted for high quality diagnostic application. Various algorithms have been proposed to improve the
performance of the compression scheme.
One of our contributions is to demonstrate the
choice of mother wavelet is very important for achieving superior wavelet compression performances based
on proposed image quality indexes. Experimental results show that the proposed image quality index plays
a significantly role in the quality evaluation of image compression on the open sources “BrainWeb:
Simulated Brain Database (SBD) ”.

1) The document proposes an automated approach to color grayscale images using deep learning and convolutional neural networks (CNNs).
2) A CNN model is trained on an image dataset containing 1300 colored images to predict color values for pixels in grayscale images.
3) The trained model is tested on 300 grayscale images and the predicted colored images are compared to the originals by calculating pixel deviations.
4) Evaluation shows that while some pixels have high errors, the average and median pixel deviations indicate the overall predicted images are acceptably close to the original colored images.
IRJET- Crop Pest Detection and Classification by K-Means and EM ClusteringIRJET Journal
This document proposes a method for crop pest detection and classification using digital image processing techniques. The method uses K-means and EM clustering algorithms to segment cropped images based on color, then extracts features from the segmented regions. Support vector machines (SVM) are used to classify the pest types. The key steps are: 1) preprocessing images, 2) segmenting using K-means and EM clustering on color features, 3) extracting features from segmented regions, 4) classifying pest types using SVM. The goal is to automatically detect and identify crop pests, which could help farmers monitor fields and control pests early to increase crop yields.
This document proposes a method for change detection in images that combines Change Vector Analysis, K-Means clustering, Otsu thresholding, and mathematical morphology. It involves detecting intensity changes using CVA, segmenting the difference image using K-Means, calculating a threshold with Otsu's method, applying the threshold and morphological operations, and comparing results to other change detection techniques. Experimental results on medical and other images show the proposed method achieves satisfactory change detection with fewer errors compared to other methods.
PREDICTION BASED LOSSLESS COMPRESSION SCHEME FOR BAYER COLOUR FILTER ARRAY IM...ijiert bestjournal
This paper presents an experimental evaluation of t he effectiveness of various techniques for lossless compression of CFA images. A colour image requires at least three colour samples at each pixel location. A digital camera would need th ree separate sensors to completely measure the image. In a three chip colour camera, the light entering the camera is split and projected onto each spectral sensor. Each sensor requires its prop er driving electronics, and the sensors have to be registered precisely. These additional requireme nts add a large expense to the system. Thus most commercial digital cameras use colour filterar rays to sample red, green, and blue colours according to a specificpattern. At the location of each pixel only one colour sample istaken and the values of the other colours must be interpolate d usingneighbouring samples. This colour plane interpolation is knownas demosaicing.Demosaic ing is generally carried out before compression.Recently,it was found that compression first schemes outperform the conventional demosaicing first schemes in terms of output image quality. An efficient prediction based lossless compression scheme for Bayer CFA images is proposed in this paper. It exploits a context matching technique to rank the neighboring pixels w hen predicting a pixel,an adaptive colour difference estimation scheme to remove the colour s pectral redundancy when handling red and blue samples, and an adaptive code word generation technique. Simulation results show the comparison of different coding scheme in terms of compression ratio.
PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF UNSYMMETRICAL TRIMMED MEDIAN AS DETECTOR ON IMAGE NOI...ijistjournal
This Paper Analyze the performance of Unsymmetrical trimmed median, which is used as detector for the detection of impulse noise, Gaussian noise and mixed noise is proposed. The proposed algorithm uses a fixed 3x3 window for the increasing noise densities. The pixels in the current window are arranged in sorting order using a improved snake like sorting algorithm with reduced comparator. The processed pixel is checked for the occurrence of outliers, if the absolute difference between processed pixels is greater than fixed threshold. Under high noise densities the processed pixel is also noisy hence the median is checked using the above procedure. if found true then the pixel is considered as noisy hence the corrupted pixel is replaced by the median of the current processing window. If median is also noisy then replace the corrupted pixel with unsymmetrical trimmed median else if the pixel is termed uncorrupted and left unaltered. The proposed algorithm (PA) is tested on varying detail images for various noises. The proposed algorithm effectively removes the high density fixed value impulse noise, low density random valued impulse noise, low density Gaussian noise and lower proportion of mixed noise. The proposed algorithm is targeted on Xc3e5000-5fg900 FPGA using Xilinx 7.1 compiler version which requires less number of slices, optimum speed and low power when compared to the other median finding architectures.

This document proposes implementing a decision-based algorithm for removing impulse noise from images using an FPGA. It summarizes the algorithm, which detects and filters impulse noise in images by checking pixel values within a window. The algorithm replaces noisy pixel values with either the median or mean of pixel values in the window. The document outlines the architecture for implementing this algorithm on an FPGA, which detects noise, filters noise by calculating median/mean values, and stores output in memory. It reviews related work on impulse noise removal and non-linear filtering, noting advantages of the decision-based algorithm and FPGA implementation for image processing applications.
Improved nonlocal means based on pre classification and invariant block matchingIAEME Publication
This document summarizes an article that proposes improvements to the nonlocal means (NLM) image denoising algorithm. The proposed method first applies Gaussian blurring to pre-process the noisy image. It then extracts features from image patches using Hu's moment invariants. Next, it performs k-means clustering on the feature vectors to group similar patches. Finally, it applies row image weighted averaging to reconstruct the image. The experimental results showed this method can perform better denoising than the original NLM, especially at higher noise levels, by providing more reliable candidate patches for the weighted averaging.

Performance Evaluation of Image Edge Detection Techniques CSCJournals
The success of an image recognition procedure is related to the quality of the edges marked. The
aim of this research is to investigate and evaluate edge detection techniques when applied to
noisy images at different scales. Sobel, Prewitt, and Canny edge detection algorithms are
evaluated using artificially generated images and comparison criteria: edge quality (EQ) and map

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) have been widely used in various applications.
In these networks nodes collect data from the attached sensors and send their data to a base
station. However, nodes in WSN have limited power supply in form of battery so the nodes
are expected to minimize energy consumption in order to maximize the lifetime of WSN. A
number of techniques have been proposed in the literature to reduce the energy
consumption significantly. In this paper, we propose a new clustering based technique
which is a modification of the popular LEACH algorithm. In this technique, first cluster
heads are elected using the improved LEACH algorithm as usual, and then a cluster of
nodes is formed based on the distance between node and cluster head. Finally, data from
node is transferred to cluster head. Cluster heads forward data, after applying aggregation,
to the cluster head that is closer to it than sink in forward direction or directly to the sink.
This reduction in distance travelled improves the performance over LEACH algorithm
significantly.

It begins with an introduction to always best connectivity requirements in next generation networks that allow users to move between different network technologies. It then discusses the key aspects of handover management, including the three phases of initiation, decision, and execution. Various criteria for the handover decision process are described, such as received signal strength, network connection time, available bandwidth, power consumption, cost, security, and user preferences. Different types of handover decision strategies are categorized, including those based on network conditions, user preferences, multiple attributes, fuzzy logic/neural networks, and context awareness. The strategies are analyzed and their advantages/disadvantages compared.

In Cognitive Radio Networks (CRN), Cooperative Spectrum Sensing (CSS) is
used to improve performance of spectrum sensing techniques used for detection of licensed
(Primary) user’s signal. In CSS, the spectrum sensing information from multiple unlicensed
(Secondary) users are combined to take final decision about presence of primary signal. The
mixing techniques used to generate final decision about presence of PU’s signal are also
called as Fusion techniques / rules. The fusion techniques are further classified as data
fusion and decision fusion techniques. In data fusion technique all the secondary users
(SUs) share their raw information of spectrum detection like detected energy or other
statistical information, while in decision fusion technique all the SUs take their local
decisions and share the decision by sending ‘0’ or ‘1’ corresponding to absence and presence
of PU’s signal respectively. The rules used in decision fusion techniques are OR rule, AND
rule and K-out-of-N rule. The CSS is further classified as distributed CSS and centralized
CSS. In distributed CSS all the SUs share the spectrum detection information with each
other and by mixing the shared information; all the SUs take final decision individually. In
centralized CSS all the SUs send their detected information to a secondary base station /
central unit which combines the shared information and takes final decision. The secondary
base station shares the final decision with all the SUs in the CRN. This paper covers
overview of information fusion methods used for CSS and analysis of decision fusion rules
with simulation results.
This paper analyzes the impact of network scalability on various physical attributes of Zigbee networks. Simulations were conducted using Qualnet to evaluate the performance of the Zigbee physical layer based on energy consumption and throughput. Energy consumption was analyzed for different modulation schemes (ASK, BPSK, OQPSK), network sizes (2-50 nodes), and clear channel assessment modes. The results showed that OQPSK and ASK had lower energy consumption than BPSK. Throughput was highest for OQPSK. While carrier sense had slightly higher throughput than other CCA modes, the energy consumption differences between CCA modes were minor.

A rapid progress is seen in the field of robotics both in educational and industrial
automation sectors. The Robotics education in particular is gaining technological advances
and providing more learning opportunities. In automotive sector, there is a necessity and
demand to automate daily human activities by robot. With such an advancement and
demand for robotics, the realization of a popular computer game will help students to learn
and acquire skills in the field of robotics. The computer game such as Pacman offers
challenges on both software and hardware fronts. In software, it provides challenges in
developing algorithms for a robot to escape from the pool of attacking robots and to develop
algorithms for multiple ghost robots to attack the Pacman. On the hardware front, it
provides a challenge to integrate various systems to realize the game. This project aims to
demonstrate the pacman game in real world as well as in simulation. For simulation
purpose Player/Stage is used to develop single-client and multi-client architectures. The
multi- client architecture in player/stage uses one global simulation proxy to which all the
robot models are connected. This reduces the overhead to manage multiple robots proxy.
The single-client architecture enables only two robot models to connect to the simulation
proxy. Multi-client approach offers flexibility to add sensors to each port which will be used
distinctly by the client attached to the respective robot. The robots are named as Pacman
and Ghosts, which try to escape and attack respectively. Use of Network Camera has been
done to detect the global positions of the robots and data is shared through inter-process
communication.

Information Systems and Networks are subjected to electronic attacks. When
network attacks hit, organizations are thrown into crisis mode. From the IT department to
call centers, to the board room and beyond, all are fraught with danger until the situation is
under control. Traditional methods which are used to overcome these threats (e.g. firewall,
antivirus software, password protection etc.) do not provide complete security to the system.
This encourages the researchers to develop an Intrusion Detection System which is capable
of detecting and responding to such events. This review paper presents a comprehensive

Step by step operations by which we make a group of objects in which attributes
of all the objects are nearly similar, known as clustering. So, a cluster is a collection of
objects that acquire nearly same attribute values. The property of an object in a cluster is
similar to other objects in same cluster but different with objects of other clusters.
Clustering is used in wide range of applications like pattern recognition, image processing,
data analysis, machine learning etc. Nowadays, more attention has been put on categorical
data rather than numerical data. Where, the range of numerical attributes organizes in a
class like small, medium, high, and so on. There is wide range of algorithm that used to
make clusters of given categorical data. Our approach is to enhance the working on well-
known clustering algorithm k-modes to improve accuracy of algorithm. We proposed a new
approach named “High Accuracy Clustering Algorithm for Categorical datasets”.
Brain tumor is a malformed growth of cells within brain which may be
cancerous or non-cancerous. The term ‘malformed’ indicates the existence of tumor. The
tumor may be benign or malignant and it needs medical support for further classification.
Brain tumor must be detected, diagnosed and evaluated in earliest stage. The medical
problems become grave if tumor is detected at the later stage. Out of various technologies
available for diagnosis of brain tumor, MRI is the preferred technology which enables the
diagnosis and evaluation of brain tumor. The current work presents various clustering
techniques that are employed to detect brain tumor. The classification involves classification
of images into normal and malformed (if detected the tumor). The algorithm deals with
steps such as preprocessing, segmentation, feature extraction and classification of MR brain
images. Finally, the confirmatory step is specifying the tumor area by technique called
region of interest.

This document proposes a digital watermarking technique using LSB replacement with secret key insertion for enhanced data security. The technique works by inserting a watermark into the least significant bits of pixels in an image. A secret key is also inserted during transmission for additional security. The watermarked image is generated without noticeably impacting image quality. The proposed method was tested on sample images and successfully embedded watermarks while maintaining visual quality. The technique aims to provide copyright protection and authentication of digital images and documents.
Today among various medium of data transmission or storage our sensitive data
are not secured with a third-party, that we used to take help of. Cryptography plays an
important role in securing our data from malicious attack. This paper present a partial
image encryption based on bit-planes permutation using Peter De Jong chaotic map for
secure image transmission and storage. The proposed partial image encryption is a raw data
encryption method where bits of some bit-planes are shuffled among other bit-planes based
on chaotic maps proposed by Peter De Jong. By using the chaotic behavior of the Peter De
Jong map the position of all the bit-planes are permuted. The result of the several
experimental, correlation analysis and sensitivity test shows that the proposed image
encryption scheme provides an efficient and secure way for real-time image encryption and
decryption.

Wimax technology has reshaped the framework of broadband wireless internet
service. It provides the internet service to unconnected or detached areas such as east South
Africa, rural areas of America and Asia region. Full duplex helpers employed with one of
the relay stations selection and indexing method that is Randomized Distributed Space Time
are used to expand the coverage area of primary Wimax station. The basic problem was
identified at cell edge due to weather conditions (rain, fog), insertion of destruction because
of multiple paths in the same communication channel and due to interference created by
other users in that communication. It is impractical task for the receiver station to decode
the transmitted signal successfully at the cell edges, which increases the high packet loss and
retransmissions. But Wimax is a outstanding technology which is used for improving the
quality of internet service and also it offers various services like Voice over Internet
Protocol, Video conferencing and Multimedia broadcast etc where a little delay in packet
transmission can cause a big loss in the communication. Even setup and initialization of
another Wimax station nearer to each other is not a good alternate, where any mobile
station can easily handover to another base station if it gets a strong signal from other one.
But in rural areas, for few numbers of customers, installation of base station nearer to each
other is costlier task. In this review article, we present a scheme using R-DSTC technique to
choose and select helpers (relay nodes) randomly to expand the coverage area and help to
mobile station as a helper to provide secure communication with base station. In this work,
we use full duplex helpers for better utilization of bandwidth.
Radio Frequency identification (RFID) technology has become emerging
technique for tracking and items identification. Depend upon the function; various RFID
technologies could be used. Drawback of passive RFID technology, associated to the range
of reading tags and assurance in difficult environmental condition, puts boundaries on
performance in the real life situation [1]. To improve the range of reading tags and
assurance, we consider implementing active backscattering tag technology. For making
mobiles of multiple radio standards in 4G network; the Software Defined Radio (SDR)

eliminated by the development and implementation of the Software Defined Radio (SDR)
active backscattering tag compatible with the EPC global UHF Class 1 Generation 2 (Gen2)
RFID standard. Such technology can be used for many of applications and services.

switching techniques to combine more than one existing filters to use different efficient filters in different
noisy conditions since no single filter best fits for all noise levels. Some algorithms are good for low noise
ratio. Soft computing techniques such as fuzzy, neural, edge preserving and decision based techniques are
also reported for enhancement of efficiency of algorithms and also produce the good visibility.
In literature, it is observed that only few algorithms are proposed to handle RVIN. Our main aim is to provide
a better solution to RVIN than the available algorithms in literature. Hence, our Proposed Random Valued
Impulse Noise Algorithm (PARVIN) is compared with Adaptive Median Filters (AMF) [3], Progressive
Switching Median Filter (PSMF) [4], Tri-State Median Filter (TSMF) [5], Adaptive Fuzzy Switching Filter
(AFSF) [6], a New Impulse Detector Based on Order Statistics Filter (NIND) [7], An Efficient Algorithm for
the Removal of Impulse Noise from Corrupted Images (AEAFRIN) [8], a New Fast and Efficient DecisionBased Algorithm(DBA) [9], An Improved Adaptive Median Filter (IAMF) [10], Robust Statistics Based
Algorithm (RSBA) [11], Decision Based Adaptive Median Filter (DBAF) [12], Image Restoration in Nonlinear Filtering Domain Using MDB Approach (MDBF) [13], Detail Preserving Adaptive Filter (DPAF) [14]

II. METHODOLOGY
Our algorithm is designed considering the fact that linear noise removing algorithms work well in removing
the impulse noise. But, since the efficiency of the algorithm decreases and also blurs the images, the
algorithm is applied linearly to all pixels including the non-noisy ones. Hence, while applying the linear filter
we identify the corrupted pixels and we apply the filter only for the corrupted pixels. In our algorithm, output
of the linear filter and the mean threshold are used for identifying the corrupted noisy pixels. The order in
which we replace the noisy pixels also plays an important role in noise suppression. To improve the
efficiency of the algorithm, corrupted pixels are replaced in the order of highly corrupted to less corrupted
pixels. This way we are able to control the propagation of the noise signal. Our method has three steps
(algorithms Alg-1, Alg-2 and Alg-3). Complete block diagram of the proposed system is shown in figure (1).

is restored with the help of the noisy pixels present in

pixels. Once initial noise suppression is completed Alg-3 is used for complete restoration of the corrupted
image.

V. CONCLUSIONS
In this paper, an efficient iterative method to remove random valued impulse noise from gray scale image is
proposed. Each iteration of the method significantly increases the quality of input image and the proposed
algorithm controls the flow of noise signal apart from producing consistent and very high quality output.
Experimental results show that efficiency of the algorithm is very high compared to other popular algorithms
reported in the literature. Further, the proposed algorithm works well in both the low and the high noise ratio
up to 70%. This algorithm is a promising solution for RVIN reduction as it maintains consistency in
performance. Study of the suitability and performance of the proposed algorithm for other types of noise and
images is part of our future work.
