• Very informal
• Discuss roles and responsibilities
• Introduce organization’s policies, procedures,
and internal plans
• No simulation involved

4. Tabletop Exercise
• Informal discussion of a simulated emergency
• Low stress -- flexible time limits
• Ideal way to evaluate organization’s policies, procedures,
and internal plans
• Take time for questions!

5. Internal Drills
• Tests a single emergency response function
• Can limit involvement to one organization
• Examples -- fire drills and tornado drills
• Ideal way to evaluate organization’s policies, procedures,
and internal plans

6. Functional Drills
• Policy and ICS personnel can practice
• Realistic simulation - stressful
• Takes place in “real-time”
• Emphasize emergency functions
• EOC is activated

7. Full-Scale Drills
• Takes place in “real time”
• Employs real people and equipment
• Coordinates many agencies
• Tests several emergency functions
• Activate the EOC - high stress
• Example is a mass casualty exercise
