Along with the development of modern society,
geographical area is not the only factor that classifies
certain groups. People start building a greater number
of advanced communities in terms of age, gender, job,
education, social status, and economic level. They
create their own space and share similar behavior
including how they communicate with each other.

purposes and functions of language in
society including how a language is used
by certain people

A language is a collection
of dialects, most of which
are linguistically similar,
produced by various
social communities who
choose to be identified as
speakers of that language
(Fuller and Wardhaugh,
2015)

a particular language
used by a group of
speakers and identified
by grammatical,
phonological, or
syntactical features

PIDGIN AND CREOLE
Pidgin is a new variety of dialect to communicate
by modifying vocabulary from their origin
languages and simplifying sentence structure.
Pidgin will probably turn into creole language when
a generation whose parents communicate in pidgin
teaches it to their kids as their native tongue and
sometimes the language formed has a new name

Someone’s style may vary from formal to informal based
on the social setting, participant relationships, social
class, sex, age, and subject (Romaine, 2000).

The process of teaching a foreign language is not
limited to making the students able to produce
utterances in the language that they learn. It is also
necessary to get them know how the language is
used in different social contexts as they may
communicate with various groups
