• This lives on the scrolling feed of updates (does not stay
on profile)
Published Posts on Linkedin

Best Practices for Social Engagement
Your Basic Plan
14. It’s like exercise…
Finding the time to participate in social media is much like
exercise; you need to make it an important part of your
life. If it is important to you, you don’t even think about it
anymore. IT JUST IS.
You have a choice.
You can choose to exercise regularly in order to stay fit.
OR NOT.
And you can choose to participate in SOCIAL
NETWORKS.
15. 1. How do I make my profile more visible, and more exciting, rather than just be the
ordinary one that it is now?
2. What is LinkedIn really for, besides the potential for other employers to see you and to
share information? What are other reasons for having or maximizing your profile?
3. Should I be more selective about who I connect with in LinkedIn, or is it more of a
numbers game and just connect with as many people as possible?
4. I want to start writing articles on my LinkedIn account. However, the topics would not
have anything to do with my education or my work experience. I would be writing
about things that I have education and experience in with volunteering, working with
kids, and the environment. Should I leave these topics for a different venue, or would
this enhance my LinkedIn profile, or hurt it?
5. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS?
Questions I received before the presenation
16. To Do’s:
1. Make sure your LinkedIn Profile is 100% complete
2. Personalize your Public URL
3. List your accomplishments, skill sets etc.
4. Build your network using personalized messages rather than
generic ones
5. If there isn’t a group for your interests, start one. (I think we do
have one for you to join)
6. Look for groups related to your industry or your interests and
ADD VALUE to discussions.
7. Use your LinkedIn everyday …or at least every other day.
You can set a calendar reminder to remind you to post an update etc.
8. Now you can put your endorsing to the test! Endorse me here:

Above is an example of how you can create some personality in your title – add keywords that describe your value
Your summary can be creative – it is a space to tell your story. Keep it brief, interesting, and remember, bullet points are your friend.
Click – Profile in the top navigation
Under the contact info – find the Linkedin URL for your page
Click the “Gear” or settings mark
You’ll come to the page shown above – customize your public URL and make sure your profile is public
LinkedIn Requests
When you're growing your Network its always nice to add a personalized message to the person you are requesting
Just because you “know” them doesn’t mean you have to accept their invitation.
You want to build a strong professional network and that doesn’t necessarily mean having more is better. Just create a professional network you’d want in your professional circle.
Endorsements
Personally, when someone has endorsed me for something on my profile I usually reciprocate on theirs. If you know them personally then you can go ahead and “endorse” them for those skills
Messaging some colleagues/coworkers for endorsements is ok! Again, sending a personalized message makes all the difference.
Looking at People’s profile
This is acceptable especially when you're thinking of connecting with them and/or meeting them
You want to let them know you're looking at their profile, creates a conversation starter
Groups
More isn’t necessarily better. LinkedIn allows you to join as many as 50 groups just make sure they align with your interests/industry and you can provide some type of value.
Groups are great to meet and reach out to executives or managers who are not really connected to your LinkedIn Network
*Once you join the same group as the person you want to meet, you are able to send them a LinkedIn message…for free*
Like, retweet, comment (but not too much) – personal email notifications sent
Use hashtags effectively
Start to see engagement – signal to reach out; Linkedin – keep it based on the topics discussed (not on sales)
Once relationship is established – use it to persuade action on a next step – again no hard sell
Be Authentic/ tell your personal story / don’t be afraid to be different
Linkedin is primarily relationships and secondarily branding. It’s a great tool to do both.
Two schools of thought – volume vs. quality. Reasons for choosing both – just make sure you know your plan
It will enhance your Linkedin profile. We say go for it!
