This document provides an overview of open educational resources (OERs) and describes the process of creating an open tourism textbook in British Columbia. It defines OERs as educational materials that can be freely used, modified, and shared. The textbook was created through a collaborative writing and review process involving tourism industry experts and instructors. Lessons learned include allowing time for reviews, ensuring image permissions, and facilitating consistent style across chapters from different authors. The document encourages using, adapting, reviewing, and adopting open textbooks.

• Chapters came back from copyeditors and massaged by Morgan

Timing
• Project ran through academic year
• Reviewers notes after copyediting but before proofing = hours of extra work logging changes
• “Is my chapter ready yet?”
Images
• Education process for authors on images and attributions (not even Vikram himself can approve it!)

• Great to have different perspectives/authors, hard for momentum
• Very few instructors are good at citations!
