This document introduces a lightweight cryptographic solution, named SCOPE, to enhance the security of the Coding Opportunistically (COPE) protocol in peer-to-peer wireless networks against both honest-but-curious and malicious attacks. The SCOPE approach employs elliptic curve cryptography for encryption and elliptic curve digital signature algorithm for authentication, ensuring the privacy and integrity of coded data packets while maintaining efficiency in bandwidth usage. The work discusses security requirements, threat models, and the implementation of the new protocol to safeguard data in transit through the network.
