WE WISH YOU
A VERY HAPPY
Amsterdam alumni newsletter
2014
First of all, we would like to wish you a Happy New Year! In this second issue
of our Amsterdam alumni newsletter we take a look at the recent alumni event
and give you an insight in the many other activities that took place. More
importantly, we invite you to tell us what you would like to find in this newsletter.
Great success:
alumni event
of 6 November
On 6 November 2013
nearly one hundred
Amsterdam alumni had
registered for our viewing
party of the TEDx *
Conference in the Stedelijk
Museum. Being a gold
partner of TEDx, we were
allowed to stage an
exclusive viewing party.
Many alumni took the
chance to catch up with
former and present
colleagues/partners of the
Amsterdam office. In case
you missed it… hope you
can join next time.
The event hit off at 17hr00 with a
warm welcome by managing partner
Bas Boris Visser. As a jury member
of the TEDx Awards he was heavily
involved with the conference that
same day and he gave some very
enthusiastic descriptions of the talks
earlier that day. Amsterdam alumni
Diederick Croese, who is director at
TEDx, introduced the live screening
that followed, including some very
inspiring speakers. Like Fons
Trompenaars who gave an insight in
the subtle differences in moral
dilemma within different cultures.
Sounds like a very serious topic, but
Fons presented it with a lot of humour
and charm.
Highlight of the evening was the very
personal talk by photographer Jimmy
Nelson at the museum. Jimmy
shared his journey of three years
across the world which resulted in a
book and a film capturing the beauty
of over 30 remote tribes ('Before they
pass away'). He revealed many

adventures (that were not in the
book!), illustrated by amazing images
on screen. Jimmy also explained his
fascination with people that are other
than ''normal''. After answering many
questions from the audience,
everyone was invited for drinks.
During drinks alumni and current staff
could share their thoughts about the
talks and meet old friends. They also
had the opportunity to buy a copy of
Jimmy's book and get it autographed
by the author at the same time.

without introduction. At

programme was a live interview with
David Entwistle, the Global Head
Legal Risk of Deutsche Bank. There
was also a client panel consisting of
experts from Citibank, EADS and Vitol,
moderated by Jeroen Ouwehand
(host of the retreat) and a panel of
former and current secondees.

This year the second annual Clifford
Chance STiC Football Tournament
was held again at the sporting
complex of SC Buitenveldert. It was a
very successful day with ten teams
competing for the cups without big
ears (bekers zonder grote oren).
Eventually, ABN AMRO took home
the first price. The Mario Balotelli
award went to a player of Procter &
Gamble for his impressive technical
skills and for being the biggest clown
of the day. The STiC tournament was
put up for nomination for Clifford
Chance's annual CR Awards as it is a
great opportunity to raise money for
less privileged kids (Jeugdsportfonds).
