THE COMPANY WAS FOUNDED
with one store, in Novi, Michigan,
in 1977. Today, you see many
iterations of the number 77
throughout our clothing,
vernacular and imagery - one of
the many threads of respect to
our rich heritage.
The Schottenstein family of
Columbus, Ohio took over the
company in the early nineties,
which is also when we
introduced our first line of
private-label merchandise. They
were, and remain today,
consummate retailers, with
generations of experience and
several successful companies.
Under this leadership, we set our
sights on creating a brand that
offers high quality, on-trend
clothing at affordable prices,
targeted to the college lifestyle.
Decades later, that core mission
remains.
Over the next decade, the
company demonstrated
outstanding growth and

company began trading on
the New York Stock

The first AEO store opens in Twelve Oaks
Mall in Novi, MI as the destination for the
great outdoors.

American Eagle introduces private-label
merchandise.

Initial public offering of 2.1 million shares
on NASDAQ under “AEOS” symbol.
1998 AEO SOARS INTOCYBERSPACE

2003 THE EAGLE SOARS
The iconic eagle appears for the first time..
2006 AERIE IS HERE
Something new, an intimates brand just for
her: aerie launches nationwide.
2006 DOMINATING IN DENIM AEO
AEO is ranked #1 in jean sales by 15-25 year
olds, above all other specialty retailers.

2007 AEOINC. MOVES DOWNTOWN
AEO Inc. opens the new corporate
campus at 77 Hot Metal Street in
Pittsburgh’s historic Southside.
2007 77 KIDS
AEO launches 77Kids, a line of clothing
for children 2-10, opening its first doors in
Pittsburgh.
2009 BREAKING DENIM RECORDS
AEO dominates the jean scene with a
record 4.2 million pairs of jeans sold
during back-to-school.
2009 AEOTIMES SQUARE
AEO lights up Times Square with the new
AEO flagship store, our largest store
with four levels of shopping
2010 AEO GOES GLOBAL
AEO kicks off its international expansion
with its first store in Dubai, closely
followed by stores in Kuwait, Hong Kong,
Russia, and Shanghai
2012 AEO OPENS ITS DOORS IN JAPAN
The Tokyo flagship store sets a new
record for the highest opening day and

MILESTONES
Most people don’t think of going to work to watch
TV. Here at AEO, Associates are not only
encouraged to view the company’s latest videos,
but to share what they’ve learned with others. AEO
TV, which aired its first episode on March 11, 2010,
is designed to provide a fun, entertaining and
informative look at AEO products. Its videos are
also designed to teach selling methods to store
associates, giving them the product knowledge
they need to become successful in their jobs.
With AEO TV continuing to grow, the programs
are now viewed in nearly all AEO stores! Videos are
even translated into alternative languages for our
international partners.
The 3-5 minute episodes have three separate
channels: product videos that provide information
on how AEO products are designed and
manufactured; selling videos that provide tips and
role-playing opportunities to help associates excel;
and brand knowledge videos that give new
associates a snapshot of who American Eagle
Outfitters is as a brand.

PITTSBURGH HOME OFFICE Home to the three rivers,
championships, and jeans! American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. is
headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA in the vibrant Southside
neighborhood. Within a mile from downtown Pittsburgh, there is
are so many sights to see and things to do in the city, and a lot of
inspiration to draw from. Here, we house some of our major

NYC DESIGN OFFICE lives in the
heart of Manhattan. This office is
the hub of all designers for both
AEO brands. Along with design,
this office also houses our
Production team which ensures

highest quality product for our
customer. While being in 2 cities
creates a challenge at times, our
teams meet for large milestone
meetings a few times a year.
INTERNATIONAL OFFICES
As we continue to expand
our international reach, we
have started opening
regional offices across the
world. Outside of the US we
currently operate offices in
Mexico City, Hong Kong,
Shanghai and London to
support this rapidly growing
business.

years, we have expanded into
the international market. We

JOE MEGIBOW
SR. VICE PRESIDENT/GM OMNICHANNEL ECOMMERCE
Joe joined AEO in November 2012 as our SVP/GM of Omni-Channel
eCommerce, a new position focused on ensuring we deliver the sector-
leading, technology-enabled customer experience across our channels,
globally. Prior to AEO, Joe worked as the General Manager for
Expedia.com and is recognized for building the industry-leading
customer experience in online travel.
MARY BOLAND
CHIEF FINANCIAL & ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER
Mary joined AEO in July 2012 from Levi Strauss and Company where
she served as CFO for Global Levi’s, for six years. In her role, she led
Finance and various operating functions across the Americas, Europe
and Asia. Prior to joining Levi’s, Mary spent more than 20 years at
General Motors Corporation where she rose to CFO.
SCOTT HURD
VICE PRESIDENT—CONTROLLER
Scott joined AEO as Vice President, Controller in January 2010 with over
18 years of General Accounting and Financial Control experience. He is
responsible for all operational accounting in multiple areas within the
company. Prior to joining AEO, Scott spent twelve years at Linens ‘N
Things, entering the company as Senior Accountant and progressing to
the position of Senior Vice President, CFO.
JUDY MEEHAN
VICE PRESIDENT—INVESTOR RELATIONS
Judy joined AEO in 2000 to develop an investor relations function for the
company. In this role, Judy leads business communications, including the
preparation of press releases, scripts, MD&A and executive presentations.
She works closely with the internal corporate communications, finance
and legal teams. Prior to AEO, Judy was an equity analyst at financial
services firm, Parker/Hunter.
Wow, it’s been a year! We accomplished so much in the past year, and we have learned a lot.
We are understanding our customer more and more everyday, and we will only continue to
grow. As a company, we have refreshed our goals for this new fiscal year and wanted to share
them with you. Learn them, love them, and understand how you can contribute to our success!

2015 COMPANY GOALS
Putting the customer first is essential in securing our
success. We continually strive to make our customer
happy in everything we do, in our corporate offices and on
our sales floor. Customer first standards are the ways we
engage with our customers on the sales floor, in the fitting
room, and at the cash and wrap. By putting our customer
first, we always make their day! Within each standard lives
the 4 “be’s”. The be’s allow us to connect to the customer
on a personal level with the customer. We use these
standards to ensure every customer has a positive
experience in every store, and to give clear steps to
succeed at work and help us recognize your success. Our
executive leadership team has even stepped in to show us
their customer first standards! In November 2013, the AEO
TV Production and AEO Store Experience teams set out in
search of American Eagle Outfitters and Aerie store
associates who were delivering great customer experience.
Our associates make every effort to go above and beyond
and it’s time we pay up! As part of our continuing contest &
recognition program, we went in to stores with undercover
actors and surveillance cameras to “catch” our associates
doing what they do best… being awesome. When
associates displayed certain customer service standards
they were eligible to win cash!

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Each associate
should have between 3 and 6 key
accountabilities. Each should be set around
the main functions of the role, and may be

comment on their own performance across
the year.
AEO WINNING EDGE: This set of
characteristics has been developed to
demonstrate what it takes to be successful at
AEO. This is the area that associates should
rate and comment their performance across
the year based off the predetermined bullet
points within this category..
FEEDBACK: There are two feedback
sections: areas of individual strength +
distinctive/innovative accomplishments, and
opportunities for growth. This is the area
that associates should note specific feedback
from the year relating to their own
performance, with a focus on what they
perceive to be their own strengths and
unique talents.
REVIEW PERIOD: The fiscal year is February
1st
through January 31st
.
EFFECTIVE DATE: Merit increases, where
warranted, will be effective the first pay period
of April and will be reflected in the second pay
check in April.
INCENTIVE BONUS: A specific target incentive
bonus percentage is assigned by grade level.
If you are unsure of your bonus percentage
eligibility, please reference your offer letter or
most recent compensation profile.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Incentive Bonus amount for associates is the
eligible bonus percentage based on fiscal year
to date base wages earned through the end of
the fiscal year. Bonus percentage is based on
grade level at the end of the fiscal year.
ASSOCIATES ARE NOT ELIGIBLE IF::
1. The company does not meet partial results
on Financial Performance Goals.
2. An associate is rated “needs Improvement”
on the key accountabilities section of the
annual review, or has an overall review

3. An associate is on a written performance

4. An individual is not actively employed by

qualified referrals. The goal of this program
is to help reduce recruiting costs while

HOW DO I MAKE A REFERRAL?
It’s easy. For Home Office, DC, and NY Design
Center positions, email your referral to a
member of the Recruiting team.
REFERRALS MAY NOT BE:
A current associate of AEO or a person
who has been working with AEO on a
temporary, seasonal, freelance, contractual
basis, ,or anyone who was already presented
to AEO through another recruiting source. A
referral cannot be a former or current intern or
associate.
HOW DO I RECEIVE AN AWARD?
HR will notify you if your referral has been
hired. Your FAST CA$H award will be granted
for each person hired, and amount will be
determined based on the position and the
recruiting team’s discretion. Award payments
will be made within one month after the
successful referral reports to work. Keep in
mind that FAST CA$H can be revised or
terminated at any time at the discretion of
AEO, Inc. Also, the recruiting team is
responsible for the administration of FAST
CA$H and will determine amount of award.
Each resume submitted will be reviewed for
eligibility. Decisions regarding candidates’
qualifications will be determined by the hiring
manager and the recruiter. There is no limit to
the number of referrals an associate can
submit. In case of duplicate referrals, the award
will be based on the earliest date that the
recruiting team receives the referral.

direct deposit will not take affect until your

FRIDAY: SOMETHING EVERYONE

YOUR PAYCHECK will be granted a bi-weekly
basis. Our pay period is Sunday through
Saturday; the pay you receive covers the two-
week period that ended the Saturday six days
earlier. Your first pay check or pay stub will be
delivered to you by your ESA. Not sure how
much paid time off you’ve accrued? Your PTO is
listed on the right-hand side of your pay stub. If
you do plan on taking any PTO, be sure to alert
your ESA. Just know that only non-exempt
associates are permitted to sell back unused PTO
after meeting service requirement. Exempt
associates will forfeit any remaining PTO balance
at the end of the fiscal year. For more

  • 12. Most people don’t think of going to work to watch TV. Here at AEO, Associates are not only encouraged to view the company’s latest videos, but to share what they’ve learned with others. AEO TV, which aired its first episode on March 11, 2010, is designed to provide a fun, entertaining and informative look at AEO products. Its videos are also designed to teach selling methods to store associates, giving them the product knowledge they need to become successful in their jobs. With AEO TV continuing to grow, the programs are now viewed in nearly all AEO stores! Videos are even translated into alternative languages for our international partners. The 3-5 minute episodes have three separate channels: product videos that provide information on how AEO products are designed and manufactured; selling videos that provide tips and role-playing opportunities to help associates excel; and brand knowledge videos that give new associates a snapshot of who American Eagle Outfitters is as a brand. Within a mile from downtown Pittsburgh, there is are so many sights to see and things to do in the city, and a lot of inspiration to draw from. In her role, she led Finance and various operating functions across the Americas, Europe and Asia. Prior to joining Levi’s, Mary spent more than 20 years at General Motors Corporation where she rose to CFO. SCOTT HURD VICE PRESIDENT—CONTROLLER Scott joined AEO as Vice President, Controller in January 2010 with over 18 years of General Accounting and Financial Control experience. He is responsible for all operational accounting in multiple areas within the company. Prior to joining AEO, Scott spent twelve years at Linens ‘N Things, entering the company as Senior Accountant and progressing to the position of Senior Vice President, CFO. JUDY MEEHAN VICE PRESIDENT—INVESTOR RELATIONS Judy joined AEO in 2000 to develop an investor relations function for the company. In this role, Judy leads business communications, including the preparation of press releases, scripts, MD&A and executive presentations. She works closely with the internal corporate communications, finance and legal teams. Prior to AEO, Judy was an equity analyst at financial services firm, Parker/Hunter.

Performance reviews ensure that a thorough evaluation of individual performance is written and documented based on previously discussed performance expectations, and that the evaluation is effectively communicated through a performance review conversation. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Each associate should have between 3 and 6 key accountabilities. Each should be set around the main functions of the role, and may be financial or developmental in nature. This is the area that associates should rate and comment on their own performance across the year. AEO WINNING EDGE: This set of characteristics has been developed to demonstrate what it takes to be successful at AEO. This is the area that associates should rate and comment their performance across the year based off the predetermined bullet points within this category..
