1) Scots immigrants came to America in large numbers between 1707 and 1775, settling mainly in the lowlands, highlands, and Ulster regions. By 1750, brokers saw Highland Scots as tougher and better suited for the difficult transatlantic journey. 2) Many slaves died within their first year in America after being taken from Africa and subjected to horrific conditions aboard ships. Upon arrival, some captains tried to make sick slaves appear healthier to get a better price for them. 3) In the American colonies, religious freedom was limited as local churches had to adhere to the rules of the towns they were in. Powerful individuals could shut down churches they disliked. The middle
