Washing my eyelids is an important part of my daily skincare routine. Proper cleansing helps remove dirt, oil, and pollutants from the delicate skin around my eyes. Making eyelid hygiene a habit promotes long-term eye health and prevents conditions like blepharitis.
As technical communicators, we touch every product, process, and service on this planet (and off of it). Without us, governments would fall, inventors would have a hard time getting their products to users, and patients would die. In short, no product, process, or service would function very well. Yet, because our work is part of the infrastructure, we often don’t hear about how we’re doing until something goes wrong.
Kit Brown-Hoekstra takes a look at how we can act as catalysts for positive change in the world, just by doing our jobs well. Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines a catalyst as “an agent that provokes or speeds significant change or action.” During this talk, we will look at different kinds of change, and how we, as technical communicators, can influence and change processes to make our world a better place.

This document discusses how automation can help reduce the costs of operating a data warehouse. It notes that traditional data warehouse projects take 2 years and $2 million on average to build, with annual maintenance costs being 50-75% of the build cost. This leads to high total costs of ownership. The document argues that using an automated and incremental approach like Kalido can help build a data warehouse in 9 months for $1 million, and reduce total ownership costs to less than $2 million over 5 years. This approach is said to offer significant savings over traditional methods.

The document summarizes a proposed service called JumpToGoal that aims to help users achieve goals through social motivation and monetary guarantees. Users would set goals with deadlines, recruit judges to evaluate their progress, and pledge money to the service. If judges confirm the goal was met, the user would get their money back. Interviews found users concerned about safety of funds and insincere judges. The service may focus on short-term goals evaluable through social networks and offer non-monetary rewards. Future plans include prototyping and surveys to refine the concept.

Simugens Crowd Dynamics is a software tool that we provide to the customers as a service for the simulation of the crowd dynamics, entirely developed by D&T – SHRAIL Division, capable of realistically simulate the behavior of individuals (up to thousands), wall constraints and other typical elements of crowd situations (signs, danger, information, …). Simugens Crowd Dynamics is based on a representation of the individuals of the crowd by means of agents with partial behavior motion model on continuous unstructured space. This approach allows the accurate representation of arbitrary environments, complex barriers and large spaces without the constraints imposed by grid or cells structures.
The document discusses touch screens, providing information on their history, components, technologies, pros and cons, and applications. Touch screens were first developed in the 1970s and have since been incorporated into many devices. They consist of a touch sensor, controller, and software driver. Common touch screen technologies include resistive, surface acoustic wave, capacitive, infrared, and optical imaging. Touch screens offer an intuitive interface but can cause finger stress and smudges on the screen. They are now widely used in devices like ATMs, mobile phones, and interactive displays.

5. APPLICATIONS
PERMANENT INSTALLATION (continous monitoring, 24h/7days):
USED for product quality control at the END of PRODUCTION LINE
Installed downstream of the production line, our device detects product anomalies and non-
conformity, reducing quality costs and delivery time for wire rope Manufacturers.
USED for predictive/on-condition maitenance on PLANT
Installed on plants (cranes, lifts, cableways, people movers) our device allows a costant
monitoring of the wire rope, establishing in advance the plant downtime for extraordinary
maintenance (e.g.: rope substitution). This permit to avoid any unplanned stops due to a
sudden and unexpected maintenance activity, besides to execute the rope change only when
necessary.
MOBILE INSTALLATION (periodic/on-demand controls):
USED by Operator during the periodic/straordinary tests.

11. E.G.7: WMonDi (Wireless Monitoring & Diagnosis)
Development of a wireless and self-powered system which allows remote monitoring
and dynamics analysis of complex structures and machines (e.g.: bridges, turbines,
pumps, rotors,..). Useful in case of mechanical and civil structures when sensors
positioning is too difficult and time consuming.
It has the unique characteristic of synchronous triggering of all sensors, which is a
fundamental requirement in modal analysis; it does not use the GPS signal, so that it is
suitable for use in rooms and closed environments.
Hardware features:
• Wireless data transfer
• 16 bit A/D resolution time domain data
• Up to 256 channels
• Up to 50 kHz sampling frequency per
channel
• Full synchronisation of all channels
(less than 2 µs)
• USB - PC based recording station
• Programmable trigger
• Temperature integrated sensor
• Low consuming
Typical bi-directional sensor location • Energy indipendent (scavenger +
for bridge diagnosis using W-MonDi battery)
system • Error control on data transfer /
synchronisation
